This is not a Last of Us or Witcher 3 type deal where there are thousands of lines of voice acting.

That honestly would prove my point more, if NOA didn't have nearly as much work with voice acting to do and STILL didn't do everything they could to make it great. Especially since "Zelda having voice acting omg" was clearly a focal point of the marketing at points.

Again, it's simply one non-issue. but its just bizarre to me.

I will say, with some more time put into the game, this really feels exactly like the "Skyrim Zelda ft. SotC atmosphere" game I was hearing about. Like replace some of the shrines and Moblin areas with more overworld sidequests and caves and it would accurately reflect how I played Elder Scrolls games. Constantly on the path only to be distracted for a bit every minute is as Skyrim as it gets for me.

It's really surprising this game managed to make a couple DLCs that only cost $20 all together feel like a ripoff. But then, that makes at least one aspect Breath of the Wild actually did change my mind on, so that's something.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

@Alantor28 Only exception is the final trials where you might want some cold protection a few floors in (can't remember exact floor from the top of my mind). Again, the game will let you know when it is time.

no need for that, just equip a flame sword from time to time and Link won't freeze. You won't need cold protection. Keep some ancients arrows in your inventory and try to use them for Lynels (one hit = immediate death) - very handy for the very last trial. Also practice using your shield to throw back the beams of guardians - so that you won't waste your arrows.

Now I feel stupid. o_o Of course I should have thought of that. Oh well, next time. XD

My SD card album has been full for the last week or so, so this morning I'm getting round to copying it into my PC.

I casually started flicking through the first screenshots I took on my Switch, which I've not been back to for at least 6 months, and the images are stirring emotion in me that I'm pretty sure no other game ever has. The Great Plateau is such a gorgeous thing to look at, the game's lighting engine is divine.

Only 1 or maybe 2 of the voices are dubious. Most are just fine. I seriously doubt you'll get to the end of the game having felt like the voice acting had a massive negative effect on the game.

But yeah, it's not at the same quality as most western AAA games are. And the fact that there's so little of it suggests it wasn't a big deal for Nintendo. They maybe just wanted to see how people would react.

@Snaplocket

I'd personally rather they do a lot of voice acting or none at all. I really didn't like the fact that Breath of the Wild had so little. It just feels out of place when you haven't heard any voice acting for about 4 hours and then you suddenly hear some.
Compare that to the Witcher 3, you hear some nearly every minute.

I felt the other way about it. By being used so sparsely, it elevates it to a special moment in the game for me.

I only found the voice acting a bit distracting outside of the cutscenes.

Sidon's Hahas and Ohs sounded different compared to everyone else in Zora's Domain, like they were said by someone who speaks a different language, for example.

Fashionably late, I finally got this in and started it today.

Not too far in yet (just left the Plateau), but it's immediately clear that this is a very different beast than the rest of the series. I've already grown quite fond of climbing up high and throwing bombs down into Bokoblin encampments, lol.

2nded. Especially for a game trying so hard to create a credible world to get absorbed into and inconsistent use of voice acting is a great way to take me out of an experience.

Can horses be killed? I tamed one, put it up in a stable, and haven't used it since for fear of it getting killed.

Ah, good to know they can be revived.

Maybe I'll take Fake Moos out for a trot the next time I play (he has a cow-like pattern...).

I let my three year old try out the game today. He just loves the Guardians. I don't have the heart to tell him he won't survive an encounter with one at his age and gameskill. He picked up the gameplay faster than me I think. Although he struggles with controlling the camera using the right stick.

My daughter, who is six, is too scared to play it for very long. She is pretty tenderhearted and it might never be her type of game or until she is older. She wishes Zelda was a playable character too. I'm thinking I need to pick up Hyrule Warriors with the new Zelda skin when it releases for her.

@DarthNocturnal I usually zap them with a thunder rod. Works, too.

Stasis them works too. They will stop midair and the horse will run along.

Edit:

@RR529 I almost forgot (got so distracted by the bokoblins on horseback) but to revive the horse you need to have a 100 bond with it, so use it a lot to build trust.

Just reached Zora's Domain and man is it beautiful (actually, the entire path I had to take to get there was beautiful, especially in the rain).

I think I'm only now starting to grasp how enormous the world is. So far I've only activated the towers in the Great Plateau, the Kakariko Village region, Hateno Village region, and Zora's Domain region, yet I think that's all maybe just 1/4th of the game map (and there's surely as heck large areas in the regions I have visited that I haven't yet explored).
