I let my three year old try out the game today. He just loves the Guardians. I don't have the heart to tell him he won't survive an encounter with one at his age and gameskill. He picked up the gameplay faster than me I think. Although he struggles with controlling the camera using the right stick.
My daughter, who is six, is too scared to play it for very long. She is pretty tenderhearted and it might never be her type of game or until she is older. She wishes Zelda was a playable character too. I'm thinking I need to pick up Hyrule Warriors with the new Zelda skin when it releases for her.
Just reached Zora's Domain and man is it beautiful (actually, the entire path I had to take to get there was beautiful, especially in the rain).
I think I'm only now starting to grasp how enormous the world is. So far I've only activated the towers in the Great Plateau, the Kakariko Village region, Hateno Village region, and Zora's Domain region, yet I think that's all maybe just 1/4th of the game map (and there's surely as heck large areas in the regions I have visited that I haven't yet explored).
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
So, other than the one near Kakariko Village, where are the other Great Fairies?
I could really use another armor upgrade or two, because the latest enemies & bosses are really starting to put a pounding on me. I had to use up pretty much my entire food supply trying to beat Thunderblight Ganon as it's attacks were dealing like 6-7 hearts of damage each blow (I had 10 hearts at the time).

Finally got this game yesterday.. I got off work in the morning and after stopping at my rents I go to walmart wanting the explorers edition.. they only had the normal copy so Im like, "hmph, let me go to Target" ... so I go there and they're sold out so I ask the guy to check other stores.. not a single Target in my state has it.
This is Sunday morning so im like damn.... I just knew I was going to be able to pick this game up quick on the way home.. I seen explorers edition available to order all over online. So I start looking for stores on my phone and find Best Buy on the way home has a copy... had to wait a half hour for them to open, the suspense!
I am SO happy to finally play this game! And it feels like the good ol days when you get an instruction booklet.
@Ralizah, thanks! Found them all, now I just need to grind some Hinox Guts for my next upgrade, but the blue ones don't seem to drop any (unless it's a really rare drop?). I know I saw a black one somewhere though. Maybe I'll try him.
Anyhow, I just got the Master Sword!

I don't know how long I've been playing (25 hours maybe?) but I've beaten 28 shrines and am on my way to my 2nd legit story dungeon area (this time with Zoras). Gonna repeat my point from another thread that even though it's a fantastic game, it's so abundantly clear that they can improve upon this in a number of ways. And honestly, at this point, I have no idea why weapon breaking is such a big deal. It's only a big problem if you run into a group of really tough enemies early on.
I will say, playing Xenoblade Chronicles X for so long makes this game look better. The huge time investment in this game is still kinda crazy but it's so much more reasonable when I look at how much of my time felt wasted between the good parts of X. The "time wasting" parts of BOTW so far have usually led to me finding...something. And for the most part, in a reasonable amount of time.
I will say though, I eventually looked up what is considered easier or harder areas in the game to give me a good idea of how I should progress. No I'm not doing all the hard stuff early on, the game's already designed to be difficult early on regardless.
I have just beaten my 2nd Divine Beast (did Zora first and then Gerudo). I'm not sure what I think about the dungeons. I like that they are basically one giant puzzle, but there are almost no enemies. So they are difficult to beat but easy to survive. The two that I haven't played yet seem like they might be more ambitious, though. I do however love the bosses. Besides them looking almost identical, I love the gameplay of them. I did get extremely lucky with the Gerudo one, though. Definitely some of my favorite Zelda bosses. And I agree with @kkslider5552000 that weapon breaking is not a big deal. You get so many weapons throughout that I keep having to get rid of ones anyway.
@kkslider5552000 I haven't played through XCX much (decided to wait until the inevitable Switch port) but after having played XC2 for a long time, it's been a struggle getting back to BotW.
The 1.5.0 update which just came out fixed up the frame rate issues in Kakariko Village on Switch, can't test Korok Forest because I haven't reached that area yet. Will test Kakariko Village on Wii U (assuming that version got an update).
EDIT: The update does exist on Wii U but Kakariko Village still has significant frame rate issues on that system.
There's one memory for the life of me I can't find. It's the one with the picture of the nondescript forest that looks like a half dozen forests in the game.
@RR529 I think I know which one you mean. You can find it in the forest northeast of the Bottomless Swamp. Don't remember if that forest has an actual name, it's been a couple of months since I last played.
Or, if you want the in-game clue, go to Wetland Stable and talk to the painter. Luck!
I have a quick question about the DLC. Last night, I finished the fourth Divine Beast and went and got the Master Sword. Now I got messages that I can do the Trial of the Sword and the Champions' Ballad. Do you think I should do them now, or wait? Ideally I think I would prefer to do them now because I think it would be anticlimactic to go back after I beat the game, and I'm not sure I would even want to right away. But as they were not originally in the game and both of them say they will do something to bring out the true power of the Master Sword, I'm not sure I want to make myself more powerful and make the end easier than it was originally intended to be. What do you think?
The upgrade to the Master Sword simply makes its powered-up state you get in dungeons and in the presence of guardians permanent, it won't actually affect the final stretch of the game.
Likewise, while the Champion upgrades makes the abilities recharge faster, they already recharge faster in Hyrule Castle to begin with so it won't make much of a difference.
@CrimsonMoonMist Okay, so the only difference it makes is the sword won't become useless against regular enemies like it does normally? Good to know. I will probably try to complete them then before attacking the castle. Also, I want to say that I thought just getting the Master Sword was an awesome throwback to getting it in the original Zelda (although it wasn't called the Master Sword then). That was great.
