@meleebrawler Interesting. I didn't mean to barrage you with questions, I'm just curious about the new mode and whether it's worth playing or not.

Anyone else noticed much different about the enemy placement, or is the lynel a one off?

After charging up the Master Sword I was messing around and noticed two things: skyward strikes work on Calamity Ganon's final form, and weapons can be thrown from horseback. I think I already knew the second one, it just wasn't practical until the trial of the sword and Fierce Deity armor made the beam attack damage worth anything (throwing full weapons away while riding by seems untenable). Now if only they would program the use of runes (bomb) and give 1H and 2H weapons a charge attack (spin attack) from horseback.

@Meowpheel I think he just means the sword beams the Master Sword shoots with the "throw" motion at full health.

I actually noticed a single red Bokoblin in hero mode on horseback, off the west side of the Plateau. Didn't have time to investigate, though, as I was chasing down a Star Fragment that happened to fall shortly before. Maybe just there for the sake of the compendium? If so, then I imagine the "mandatory" Lynel in Zora's Domain would still be red, too.

I'm personally waiting until the second DLC pack comes out to pay for the whole thing, and do a second playthrough of the game in hard mode. I just don't want to get burned on this game playing it again now, then when the next pack comes. Plus waiting a good bit for a new playthrough will means i won't remember every single thing, and make it more fun.

Anyone else gonna try holding out till all the DLC is out?

Hey, do the night speed up set bonus' and speed potions affect gliding speed? I can't tell since everything's so far away.

So, I found my last 4 side quests today — the cooking fetch quests in Kakariko Village. Then I looked up the shrine quests I had missing (I've had 120 shrines for a while now) and talked to the guy in the Kara Kara Bazaar to inform him that the sandstorm he had not been looking at for a month or so wasn't there anymore. So that's 100% completion, 900 Korok seeds, 120 shrines, all the locations discovered, every side quest, a complete Hyrule Compendium, every piece of gear in the base game and DLC fully upgraded, and the Master Sword at full strength, and all of the key items.

Except the knight's saddle and the extravagant saddle and bridle...

I'm gonna go play Persona now.

Dude, you got all 900 Korok Seeds!? Even with a guide, I can't bring myself to do that. That's insane. Mad props.

@-Green- It was definitely with a guide, haha. I don't think you're missing out on much of an experience, though there are some interesting ones around Kakariko and in Faron...

@Haru17 Nothing boosts gliding speed except wind. I mean, how does eating make one more aerodynamic?

Haste effects given by food boost running, climbing and swimming speed, which do stack with clothing buffs.

@meleebrawler How do clothes make you swing a sword faster? Anyway, I wasn't saying 'this SHOULD affect flight,' it's just the game gives you no way of knowing what 'speed up' specifically means. So thanks for letting me know that.

I don't know what all the dlc will bring but I am done with the game. It's just boring to me. The wife and I were talking and this is one of our least favorite zeldas.

I'm done. I think I've had enough Zelda for a good while. I like the game, but not enough to complete the whole game all over again. I'll hold off until the next DLC or until I'm really bored.

Edit: Overall, after playing several hours into the Master Mode and getting everything else in the DLC done, I found it to be pretty meh. It was held up by how fun the Sword Trials were since BotW sort of works well as a survival mode and it was entertaining to see everything thrown at you in the Trials. It was tense at times. Although, stupidly enough I did make it harder on myself by forgetting that Ancient Arrows one shot all non-Guardians if hit anywhere on the body.

The new items while cute aren't very interesting and the Master Mode is not very enjoyable imo and highlights my annoyance in the durability system, stamina and other things. I don't see any incentive to play through the world again when I've seen everything it offers. It's a fairly static game overall with a poorly told mediocre story, imo, so I kind of came to a realization that I was forcing myself to play forward.

I still enjoy the game, but it reminded me why I was annoyed with it, and the DLC 1 really felt kind of cheap, in a sense, from my uniformed perspective.

My informed perspective can be found above and I also felt the game was cheap It's fun to play around with stuff like the empowered Master Sword's unique effect, but I don't think the combat is nearly good enough for a game so laser focused on combat. The stealth is way too slow, punishing, and fiddly; as is the climbing. I don't get the 10s, I really don't. Maybe if put in relative terms with other open world games, but that shouldn't be how scores work, and if Breath of the Wild is so utterly amazing to a video game reviewer, they should be scoring everything less leniently.

I like the guardans and the divine beasts in concept, but their execution was flawed. Some of the former should have some unique interaction with the environment like dragons resurrecting and flying in Skyrim. The divine beasts should have been seamless to enter, been able to be piloted in the world to solve puzzles, had new items within them, and just had more complete and diverse boss battles both to enter them and at the end of them. Also the spotty main quest voice acting, inability to re-enter divine beasts, and hollow voices of the champions narrating their abilities just feels bad and unfinished. The champions should have had four fold as many lines.

@Tsurii How do you land back on the horse when the vault puts you down too far forward or behind? Do you just ditch it and rely on updrafts?

And no, the obstacle course is certainly not 'stupid easy' because the horse AI reads the gates as obstacles and sends you into the wall because of how the level was designed.

I would think of the horse riding as intuitive if it didn't run for 10 meters with no control stick inputs before slamming into tiny rocks and shaking the screen all around.

@Haru17
I think all the 10s came from "omg open world" fever that seems to be destroying gaming right now, at least on consoles.

It's like, if something isn't open world these days, then screw it. Failed game.

Every preview I read unless it's like a PC strategy game or something just NEEDS to address the fact of whether the game is open world or not. Doesn't matter if it's Zelda, Mario, Mass Effect, freakin' God of War, Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, ReCored... the list goes on and on. It's everywhere, and in many cases this obsession with making your game open world is killing what otherwise could've been a fantastic game. I have no doubt the latest Mass Effect suffered from this feeling of having to present such a massive universe or else players were going to rebel or something. I'm telling you now: Just wait until people start demanding that Knack 2 is going to be open world, and when Sony announces that it will be, people will go nuts. Get ready to climb more towers and collect more robot guts, people.

I'm sick of it. Zelda was just fine the way it was, in my opinion. The axe they took to the story and puzzles and items in BotW is a crime, honestly. Even the characters, somewhat. Although there are some cool-seeming characters, there's almost like zero characterization for everyone except Zelda (main characters, mind you. there are some really cool minor characters in the villages that have distinct personalities, mostly because you can INTERACT with them at will.)

(Yea, I'm kinda ticked right now. I did start my new Master playthrough, and I may give it a few hours here and there until Splatoon 2 comes out, but I'm just "done," I think.)

Unless I'm mistaken or something, the story and puzzles in BotW are standard Zelda stuff. The main difference I see is how the story and puzzles are spread across in small bits which makes them seem worse. Otherwise, I don't see much of a difference.
