I think the beginning trial is almost the hardest because weapons are the most scarce there. Just be sure to sneak up and grab all of the fairies. The Lizalfos and lightning in the water areas were killer, but the Hinox just rolls over if you keep critting it with the OP arrow time mechanic.
Spoilers for the DLC, what little there are.
I really like the room where you draw the master sword, even if it's just another reskin of something in Breath of the Wild. However, how dare they. How dare they with that sword noise. That's two times now that they've hinted at Fi. Either let her die or have her come out again, these would-be clever hints are going unfulfilled and becoming really annoying!
We know the sword talks, it's been a thing since the first game it was in, but now we have a defined voice for it. One that we can't understand, so it makes it better.
Everything Breath of the Wild seems to be. Regardless of that, I'm not deciding what's spoilers for other people.
Doing it once and not following up is fine, but twice... what's the point? We get it, you're not adding anything to the story by replaying a sound effect with lore ramifications. For what it's worth — we knew this months ago — Fi is literally forever alone in Ganondorf's head at the bottom of the ocean in the adult timeline. Anyway, for a second I thought the Great Deku Tree was going to tell Link what Zelda hadn't told him (makes no sense I know). But of course that didn't happen, and we're still left with those loose narrative threads.
The survival mentality is definitely kicked up a notch in early hero mode. Some helpful pointers to help even the odds:
Nighttime is the best time. The buffed up enemies go to sleep, letting you get weapons without a fight, and can get more still (plus materials) from stal enemies, who are still as weak as ever.
If all else fails use fire. Igniting sticks and whacking enemies with them is a good way to get a lot of damage in a short amount of time.
Bokoblins on lookout towers forget to use their horns if you knock them off with headshots.
Also, is it just me, or are there a lot more active stationary Guardians on the Plateau near the bomb shrine?
I managed to beat the first section of levels, started off fine, but near the end I was panicking a bit because I thought I would have to do all the levels in one go or something, it kept going, and I was running low on food, I must say, having max hearts and a load of weapon slots do help, really does feel like a end game challenge or at least on higher levels, by that time the master sword won't see much action besides random roaming.
@meleebrawler There used to be three ruined guardians, how many are there now? Also, did they adjust damage values at all, or did the Great Plateau just feel impossible because they were normal blue bokoblins and Link still had dirt tier weaponry?
@Haru17 Eh... three. Guess it's just been a really long time, and it doesn't help that they never respawn.
I don't think Link takes more damage from anything (otherwise you'd just be dying in one hit all the time). The main challenge is that you almost never have enough supplies to handle groups of enemies in a straight fight, forcing you to pick them very carefully.
@meleebrawler They definitely respawn — I've killed the Great Plateau guardians a number of times. It took me a few trips back to the abbey ruins to notice the other active-ruined guardians too.
Well it's good that they didn't make the damage values impossibly high / low. Are you saying they decreased the frequency of weapons and food? Is there any difference to the placement of walking guardians in the world, or is it just Lynels and floating Bokoblin / Lizalfos / Moblin platforms?
@Haru17 Sheesh, I only just started a Hero mode yesterday. Gimme some time to explore beyond the plateau before I make any calls.
If I had to guess, though, the game seems structured so that the weapons you get from enemies are almost never enough to take them out comfortably. Like, blue Bokoblins carry red-tier weapons, black have blue-tier etc. If the enemies all go up to gold tier like the Lynel in the artwork...
I recall getting the edge of duality on my first playthrough on that shrine. I used it my first time to murgle a Hinox.
Is it me or are the guardian's shooting at wierd intervals. Normally the beam launches the moment the beep sound is made, but several of them seem to be delaying their shots after it. It was awful. The timing was off.
Just finished the Trial of Swords. I thought some parts were fairly simple, others hard as nails. The final trials just was insane. I wont drop any spoilers but some of those floors were just like WTF get me outta here
So far, Master Mode is pretty easy. I only found the beginning part to be difficult because I had no weapons, but I feel like I've hit that point were I'm able to steam ball into materials and its become fairly simple.
I'll wait until I finish the game before being too judgy, but so far I kind of wish they would have taken a different approach as to how they would have made the game more difficult. In reality, the greatest enemy is the durability system.
The only thing that has surprised me were the Guardians and their timing. That was cool.
