@Jumpman I don't know if it's worth buying a Switch just for this game, but if there are other games you're planning on buying as well as Zelda, absolutely go for it. Absolutely awesome piece of hardware, and if the software interests you, you'll have a really good time with it. Without a doubt my favorite system ever. Just make sure you get a screen protector. Preferably tempered glass, if you're willing to spend a bit of extra money. Not only are they far less prone to bubbles if you clean your screen before putting it on, they'll protect the screen a lot more effectively than a standard plastic one.
@nf_2, I'm surprised how many people decided to go straight to Kakariko Village right off the Great Plateau. It wasn't for me. It felt kinda sacrilegious to the spirit of the game to just follow path in this game. I found the Coliseum pretty early, after my trip to Satori Mountain.
And as for Zora's domain, I must have missed any hints to go there, as I was convinced Lanayru had nothing critically important in it other than the titular mountain. I guess, being in Kakariko, I naturally assumed everywhere north was Death Mountain territory. I assumed the Zoras were in Eastern Faron or somewhere else Southeast. Not sure why I thought that, as Zelda tradition dictates they be in the same relative spot as they were in OoT. It was honestly one of the last places I explored.
@Ryu_Niiyama Yep, I learned that later. It's confusing, because even coming in with everything unlocked, he still spouts the dialogue about new stock.
And Breath of the Wild fudges things a little with the timeline. For example, half of Zora's Domain claims to have been friends with Link 100 years ago (and not just the elderly ones0. However, there are no side quest, special scenes, or memories to explain this dialogue, so it's just kind of left to flag in the wind.
Also, I can confirm that the update seems to have basically fixed the slight framerate drops, at least for me. Ran around the Great Plateau, Kakariko Village, and the forest beside Kakariko Village, and noticed no framerate drops at all.
Oh, so earlier, I commented on how easy Stone Tali are when the weak spot is on top? On the complete opposite side of the spectrum are these Frost Tali I keep finding in the Gerudo Highlands. I know how to beat them, but I just keep getting my rump handed to me. Their added frost abilities make them so unpredictable and dangerous. Plus, I have to keep trying to get close to them with my Great Flameblade so that I save my precious fire arrows for use on Wizzrobes.
@Nicolaison I didn't go straight to Kakariko. I went towards the west at first. It was really cool to not follow the path. I did turn around though because I saw some enemies which terrified me! XD

I remember when I said it was stupid for Nintendo to lock a hard mode and the trial dungeon behind DLC, when they used to be part of the main game.
People told me they were just another hard mode and another cave of trials, because it said "new hard mode" and "new cave of trials". So.. where are they?
I feel like the game pushes you pretty clearly to the Dueling Peaks and Zora's Domain based on the hints you get before leaving. The design to that set up was pretty interesting though because it never felt linear, even though the surrounding area more or less forces you to go that route based on how difficult most of the other areas are initially.
It's interesting hearing what other people did in the game to start with. I went East to do the first few missions that they they were suggesting you do. Then I went north of Hateno, quickly through the snow some cold-resistance potions and landed in Lanayru Bay. I then went back towards the middle of the map and went through the Divine Beasts clockwise starting with the Zora. At no point really bothering to go behind those areas in the map. Then I mapped out the game using towers, got enough hearts for the Master Sword and cleared Ganon. And after all that.... I then discovered most of the stuff around the Great Plateau.
I've actually watched some videos of people playing some of the early game stuff and seen them run into areas that I hadn't actually seen yet. This is with them playing just after jumping off the Great Plateau and me having put in something like 60hours. It's kinda nuts.

@erv How? I enjoyed the game dramatically less after 60 hours, going on into finishing the main story. How does the most combat and world focused Zelda with the least enemy and area diversity of all of the 3D games have good replay value?
In fact, the entire open world genre are consumptive experiences, in my experience. I love Skyrim to death, but that game loses a ton once you've discovered everything. And that game has a lot more writing and little, unique secrets — that are not a reskinned Korok or Sheikah model spouting one of four lines of dialogue — to discover than Breath of the Wild.
@Haru17 I've put just over 180 hours into this game and I still want to play more. Enemy variety is meaningless to me due the amazing AI. Each encounter is different due to terrain, number of enemies, weather and the players materials and equipment. I've had drastically different encounters in the same area due to the huge amount of aspects which come into play and how the AI reacts to what you do. If it means a trade off for better enemy AI than variety, I rather the AI for I've been way more entertained compared to the countless different enemy types whom barely function any different in previous Zelda games.

@TsuriiI would have loved for Breath of the Wild to actually have an hour-plus sequence where Link spends time in the Zora's Domain of old, and where Mipha is actually established as a character, but alas, Breath of the Wild doesn't try to have a well written main quest.
And you could read that tablet!? I just saw that the name of the lake had four characters, then did process of elimination with my map.
@Haru17 well, I can see myself become very good and enjoy hunting and defeating monsters in creative ways.
Also, if you start over, you get to decide: which power do I get first? Can I already do something here? Can I do this earlier on? And then there's all the stuff you miss and realise you miss once you see other people play...
I just want to play more and again because I see new stuff every time someone else fires up their game.
@Tsurii The Gerudo were my favourite race in this game. It really interested interacting with them as they were somewhat 'sheltered' form the rest of Hyrule. It was just interesting learning about their culture and how they went about in life. Like meeting the old women in one of the alleys whom knew you were male and talked about how she chased her dreams. It was also interesting how much emphasis was put on to finding the right partner and it wasn't about looks or strength but rather make sure they had a pure heart. Also that class was hilarious! I love that girl in the back. I can't tell if she's trolling or is actually serious. XD
