I would be happy with having familiar (ie OOT and MM) music back next time. And a hookshot. Climbing's great and all, but hookshotting is better. Unless I've just not got it yet...
I would prefer the next Zelda game to be similar to BotW's world, but more compact with less empty space. I wouldn't mind them doing away with the Shrine system in favor of traditional Zelda Dungeons, similar to how they were teasing at the Game Awards. As for the story, Zelda stories and characters tend to be very simplistic, they could really do better.
I don't like the voice acting they tried in this game. It didn't work out like I thought they were trying to do it, imo.
1: "The latest zelda was my least favourite. It's kind of sucky to be honest. I'd much rather have something like the one before this one."
2: "The newer zelda is gonna be awesome and the bestestest ever!"
3: Read point 1.
I love the vastness of the world, the stuff there is to do, and can't wait for them to build more stuff like this.
One little complaint: You can't zoom in and out with the camera. You could do it in the Windwaker and Mario Sunshine, and that way you could really admire the enviroments. Since Breath of the wild looks so beautiful, I would have loved to zoom out a bit sometimes. Now it feels if the camera is always very close to Link.
One of my favourite things in Wind Waker was just panning the camera back around me as I sailed around the world. I miss the ability too (as I did playing the Wii version of Twilight Princess), I know it's small in the grand scale of things but I want to feel small in the grand scale of things.
@erv see, I knew that was going to be the case, but at no point did I think this game was gonna surpass my more linear favorites. In this instance I find botw legitimately inferior. Fun, but inferior
Ironically, I find BotW to be similar to Skyward Sword. In the sense, that it is a good game held back by several easily avoidable niggles, which detract from the experience at varying degrees. I do prefer BotW over SS, though, and I think niggles were worse in SS.
Next 3d game should be a mix of BOTW and older 3D titles. They must keep the non-linearity and freedom of exploration of BOTW... I have never had so much fun playing Zelda than with BOTW, and after experiencing the freedom in this game, I think every 3D Zelda game should echo Zelda 1 and LttP in this aspect.
However they need to take what older games did right, and add more things to do in the world, such as bigger dungeons to explore. Also tweak the weapon durability system, enemy variety, and memorable music (though it's clear they were going more for ambiance in this game).
I really like the game but I don't want another Zelda like this, at least this big, for a long time. Please give me something like skyward sword in terms. Of music, story, and linearity. Yes I said it, no I don't care if no one else wants it.
I agree to a point. I think there is a balance that could be met between the "traditional" zelda style and what they have done in BoTW.
In that sense I'd want the next one to be what Majora's mask was to ocarina of time. Less wasted space, pretty much.
I think the 3Ds will follow this games example and refine it while they'll do more traditional ones for the "handheld" games. I think they're two separate teams, right?
I also hope the next game has a bit of a better art style. I liked BotW's style when I first saw it and it can look beautiful at times, but it can be quite jarring and unappealing at others. Something just feels off about it.
Are the Guardians only killable with the Ancient weapons?
No, not a all. You just need a strong enough weapon, like the Knight's Claymore which has an attack value of 38.
And then just hit them until they try to shoot you, then go hide behind a (non-destroyable) wall or ruin, then attack them again.
If you can find a safe hiding spot not in direct view of a Guardian you can pop out and hit the head with an arrow for slight damage. Once you do that the head will move around and you can shot him in the eye for decent damage before popping down into your hiding spot and wait for him to lose interest and turn his head back. Takes a lot of arrows but very doable.
Or just use a strong melee weapon. Otherwise everything you wrote applies - just make sure they don't shoot you.
Thanks guys! Killed a few up near the central tower last night! (your advice really helped!) Kiling them gave me enough of the ancient parts I was missing to get the final rune upgrades from the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. So gonna head up there tonight and collect! [Will be extremely useful to finally be able to freeze actual enemies with the rune now, instead of just metal objects!
@GoronBrudda I know it can be hard to believe but no guardians found from when i beat my first Lynel...still waiting to try beat one
Hopefully this should be alot easier to do with the stasis rune upgrade I mentioned above (as it will allow you to freeze the darn thing long enough to be able to hit him before he fires those darn one-shot death-blows at you! (...and as runes are not limited like arrows, while they still take time to charge up in between shots after every rune use, triggering the rune to begin is pretty instant, so that will allow you to freeze him more quickly, rather than waiting to charge up an ice arrow and wind up getting shot by him first!)
With some luck my copy of the game will be here today.
These are the things I have spoiled for me (sometimes by accident):
*The old man is the king (such shock much unexpected wow old meme).
*Ganon ate Zelda. Because why not.
*The blue scarf guys are apparently all dead, it happened in the past and you can somehow get their ghostly habilities (saw someone randomly summoning the rito to gain height).
*The main dungeons are four mechanical beasts that were once commanded by the scarf squad. I haven't seen any of them though.
*There's giant horses. One of them looks like 'Dorf's.
*There's a little girl that is actually an old lady who deaged herself a bit too much by accident and she gives you runes and stuff.
*Most of what's in the plateau.
*About 20 korok locations, one random song puzzle and about 6 shrines.
Am I correct in assuming that is basically nothing and there's still a ton for me to discover on my own, right? Or did I spoil too much?
Oh, PLENTY MORE to discover my friend! There are actually as many as 900 korok locations in the game! (Have nowhere near got them all yet, and even the guide doesn't tell you fully where to find them all (but it does show you tips on what to look out for in order to find where they're hiding though, and there are actually alot more ways they are hidden than you initially think! (for example, under rocks is obvious, but there are lots of other very different types of puzzles that the game uses in order to be able to find hundreds of others, so I did still find reading that section in the guide to be a godsend, or I would never have even known that many of them existed! (and that's just the koroks!) There is so much hidden stuff in this game that I'm willing to bet that even people that think they have found everything, are still missing tonnes of stuff that they didn't even realize were there!
So nope, no matter what new stuff you read anywhere, it isn't even physically possible to spoil the whole game, as it would literally take writing more pages than the whole guide book itself to be able to write what and where all the secret stuff is hidden! (still best to provide spoiler tags for those that want to hear about anything before they've had chance to experience it themselves), but sharing tips that you have found that nobody else has will actually be quite a useful thing for alot of people. There is just so much to discover that even people playing all day every day won't have found anywhere near every last bit yet (even if they think they have). That, I can pretty much guarantee you.
Ironically, I find BotW to be similar to Skyward Sword. In the sense, that it is a good game held back by several easily avoidable niggles, which detract from the experience at varying degrees. I do prefer BotW over SS, though, and I think niggles were worse in SS.
Agree. It's like the opposite style of game, yet made with a similar mindset. I don't actually want them to go back to Skyward Sword, but I do prefer the formula of older games (eg. OOT, WW).
I've liked all the Zelda's for different reasons. But this one is very much a favorite of mine. Even if you don't like this one(which is a weird reality to live in) you should acknowledge how important this game is for Nintendo and for us. Keep up the good work Nintendo, I love this direction.
I think if the weapon durability wasn't so awful I'd like the game more. When even the sword that seals the darkness had its own caveats, that's when I was like "this game is definitely not better than the others."
I'd put it above twilight Princess and ocarina of time but under wind waker, ss, and Majora's mask
