Well, needless to say, I've been watching more and more breakdowns and theories for this game and I'm really starting to get excited. Hope I'm just as surprised as I was for cadence of hyrule. That was one I wasn't expecting too much, and I ended up loving it and playing through 5 or 6 times.
In anticipation, I've been playing ALTTP and afterwards I'll probably play ALBW. Both of which I've beaten a dozen or so times before. If there's time before launch, I might even dust off the ol wii u and play ww or tp. More than likely ww though.
Anyone care to speculate on the play time for this game? Historically, based on howlongtobeat.com, the 2D Zelda games tend to be shorter and mostly on portables, on the order of 15 hours. The 3D Zeldas were on home consoles and tend to take 30+ hours. We will now have a ground-up 2D Zelda on a hybrid console. Which way will it go?
@cwong15 i think this is gonna be the largest 2D zelda we are gonna get !! im expecting about 20 hours main story, and 50 for completionism !! im so excited for this title three monthss ahahhahahhahhhhhh

I bet it'll be an 8-10 hour game. I think 20ish hours for full completion is feasible, but I really don't see this being more than that. Just a guess.
Link's Awakening, even if you don't know what you're doing, only takes about 15ish hours to fully complete (shells, tiles, hearts).
I'm going about 12-15 with some sides. 20-22hr for 100%.
Also, my ALTTP/ALBW playthroughs are nearly done. I'm about halfway through ALBW. It just reminds me that of all the 2d games, this one has the best dungeon designs. It's really not Even close for me. On par with ocarina dungeons imo.
From some of the map analysis I've seen, we're looking at a substantially larger world than LTTP and LA. If this is also reflected in the dungeon design, we could easily be looking at something upwards of the 20 hour mark.
It'll be interesting to see how much they pull from the dungeon designs of the recent Zelda games. I don't think we'll be getting shrines, or anything like that, but non-linear dungeons without specific solutions to puzzles seems a distinct possibility. Either way, I don't think we're looking at an old school 2D Zelda, even aside from the obvious reasons.
Spirit Tracks was around 20 hours, for what it's worth. I suppose it had to have a bigger world than your average 2D Zelda game, when the main method of getting around was rail, but it is a precedent for a larger game.
A lotta Breath/Tears influence on display here. Before, 2D and 3D Zelda kind of lived in separate houses. They never really seemed to influence each other in terms of mechanics(or at least the 3D games rarely influenced the 2D games). Now it seems like they're more willing to try and see how to push 2D Zelda to a similar degree. And it's kind of fascinating.
@NintendoByNature I hope it's not as cumbersome as those two. As much as I like the mechanics, the UI is a bit fiddly in those games. Hope they ironed it out to make for a smoother experience.
