@NintendoByNature Eh, they both came out in 1989. I vaguely remember the arcade version arriving first and the NES version being a severe disappointment after having played the arcade game.

@Magician gotcha. I've been playing turtles 1 on nes since I could hold a controller. So I never minded it. But it definitely wasn't as good as turtles 2. I must've played the arcade of turtles back in the day, but can't recall. Maybe ill remember when I fire it up.

Started with turtles 1 on nes. I thought I heard rumblings that the screen flicker wasn't on this version but it still has it. Not that I care too much, but found it odd I heard they fixed that.

And wow, I just realized how little I advanced as a kid with this game lol. Passed the dam last night with the use of save states I'll admit. No clue how I did it as a kid. But I don't remember the swimming being that hard to master. Other than that, I'm currently farther than I've ever been. Excited to see it through, even with save states.

@NintendoByNature

The toggle to turn flicker off should be buried in an options menu while in the game.

I have found that as I get older, I become so much worse at playing retro games. But I also am becoming much worse at newest games too so maybe that isn’t something to look too much into.

So far I only played the first arcade game. There’s gonna be a lot of pain in getting through all these games that’s for sure.

All these years later and I still can't get enough of Turtles in Time (SNES version) and The Hyperstone Heist. Up there with Streets of Rage 2 among my all-time favorite beat-em-ups.

Oh my gosh I can't believe they are doing this. I don't know if I would ever get this but Ninja Turtles was a big thing back when I was younger. I had a bunch of the toys.

@Gamer83 Not many people like Hyperstone Heist especially when compared to Turtles in Time, but I feel it's just as good. When I got my Analogue Mega SG a few years ago the first game I tracked down was a copy of Hyperstone Heist.

@Tasuki
Yeah, it's funny because way back when Hyperstone Heist first released I was still in elementary school and the people I hung out with all loved it (many of us were Genesis guys/girls), granted most, myself included, preferred the SNES version of Turtles in Time over all other TMNT games but the Genesis release got a lot of love. On the internet that doesn't seem to be the case, though.

I was only 6 when the first TMNT arcade game hit, granted it was only 3 years later but when Turtles in Time showed up on SNES, being a little older, I think I was able to appreciate it more.

I've only ever played the original arcade 4p TMNT (Donny all the way!) and then TMNT on the NES (again, Donny is OP), but I'm really looking forward to finally picking up my preorder tonight and trying out all the other Turtle games that came after. What a dream release this is!

@Gamer83 For me Hyperstone Heist was an oddity for me. I grew up with SNES mostly although I did have a Genesis but that was mostly for games I couldn't get on SNES like Sonic, Streets of Rage etc. I knew Hyperstone Heist was different in some way but also very similar too Turtles in Time. A few of my friends who played it always told me it wasn't as good as Turtles in Time as well so there's that. There was a local video store when I was a kid that rented out Genesis games, but that was one of the games that was always rented out everytime I went there lol. I actually didn't get a chance to play Hyperstone Heist till I was in my early 20's messing around with emulation on my PC but when I did I found it just as enjoyable as Turtles in Time, and different enough as well.

@NeonPizza I remember playing the TMNT Arcade game for the first time at a train station in Denver. My family and I were taking an Amtrak across country for our vacation that year and we had an hour layover in Denver. So my dad took my brother and I for a walk around the Denver Amtrak station. We ce across an arcade they had there and there it was TMNT the Arcade game. At first I was weary of it thinking it was the NES game with its bone crushing difficulty but after looking at it I begged my dad to give us a few quarters. I remember going to school that fall and telling my friends about it and they all looked at me like I was crazy. It wasn't till a few months later that the game popped up at our local Pizza Hut restaurant. Damn I miss those days chilling at the local Pizza Hut.

@XandertheWise I don't know about the other 2 TMNT games but Fall of the Foot Clan is one of the best Gameboy games around and is definitely worth a playthrough.

Yeah. I'd say Turtles in Time was clearly the better game. Konami did a great job with the SNES hardware and it had better sound, level design, graphics and even the gameplay felt smoother. But The Hyperstone Heist did just enough to feel unique on its own and it was cool to have a good TMNT on Sega's system. It was still a big step up from The Arcade Game and Manhattan Project on NES, so there was also that.

@Gamer83 The only gripe I had with Hyperstone Heist was the boss rush level, I felt that was kinda cheap how they did that rather then just having some othe TMNT character as a boss. Then again I am not a big fan when any game does that.
