Y'know, maybe I've just played too much Smash, but I don't understand the issue with unlocks everyone is talking about. The sole time I lost one, it was because I was messing around and PK Thundered myself right off the stage with Lucas. Are they really that bad? I have like, 2/3 of the cast now without much issue.
The unlockable fighters have definitely gotten tougher over time. Sometimes, I have to re-challenge them if I'm thrown into a fight with a character whose moveset I'm not totally comfortable with yet.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@ReaderRagfish It’s really easy to find someone’s YouTube channel if they have the same username for everything. He still doesn’t know what hen tie is. I need to read Mario’s biography, Rosie Love by @shaneoh at some point.
The unlock battles are hard, but they are definitely not impossible. I’ve said this before on this thread, but the AI of the challengers is kind of a mixed bag. Sometimes it can take five or more tries, other times less than five minutes. It can get frustrating, but the satisfaction from winning cancels it out, at least for me.
@AlternateButtons I do remember Lucina killing me very easily on my first try, but on my second try I was able to take her down. That was really my challengers in a nutshell, they all only took me two tries at most.
But I did come close to dying multiple times regardless, no doubt. I do feel like the AI is wildly inconsistent though, even as I kept progressing through characters. Some were hyper-aggressive, some were super defensive, and others were jokes even at the later half of my characters. I dunno though.

...Am I the only one having minor issues with controls? It feels like sometimes my character will randomly change directs at the very last moment when I'm trying to recover or use a Final Smash. I end up losing a life or wasting the Final constantly, it's annoying. >.>

Keep it PG-13-ish.
I must say I am very happy with what they did with King Rool. He's as cool as I hoped. I had a little bit of fear that because he's a heavy fighter he would be very sluggish (like Ganondorf in past games). But no, he's fast, strong, has good recovery. Very nice indeed. I love his boomerang crown.
Okay, after several hours and days wasted into the game, I decided to play a few rounds of Smash online (now that the algorithm should have evened out at least a little). From my experiences that gets a nope from me, friend. Not sure what it is but every time I am on the internet (hardline too, BTW, for Paladins and Rocket League) I am facing off some of the most pro people, or people with such poor connections they got DBZ levels of speed and teleport to me and before I know it, I ate a smash from Zelda and gone by 60%.
Rough times, man.
Outside that, I must say I lament on the trophies when I finished Classic (which feels short stacked too BTW). I am okay-ish if only the fighters and ATs may get trophies, cause getting a "Fighter Spirit" just isn't as satisfying.
Which kind of grinds my gears they didn't at least add a sticker diorama for what we DO have to chase down and unlock. Feels hollow with the victories and earning recycled artwork. At least give us something to do with them. All of it feels bleh as a reward system to collect. No new artwork (couldn't they afford an art team to make half of this at least stylishly in-tune with the game?) and you can't "use" them outside the one mode. Feels like a lot is missing cause it's so stacked to one side.
I digress though, with what I'll miss, I am happy with several content we did get. But man that first Classic victory really brought that reality home (also they took Ray Mk from being an AT, much sour).
@AlternateButtons I despise K.Rool's Blunderbuss so damn much. I have PTSD from that dumb thing in WoL with super armor K.Rools spamming that attack for 20% damage every time. Bah.
That said I should get my hands on him one day. For now though, I really want to master Simon, Richter, and Shulk as my primary mains in Ultimate.

Okay, veterans, I need help with adding Isabelle to my fighter pool. She is already a challenger, but everytime I encounter her I am at a loss.
As mentioned before I am a newcomer and usually play a mix of WoL or Classic at either 2.0 / 3.0. Though it seems the challengers are a a bit more formidable.
I feel comnfortable with Samus and Bowser and besides Down Special + B with Mario in general, though I am at a loss how to approach with Isabelle. Keeping the distance does nothing than she reeling me in with her fishing rod (and unleashes a combo) and if I want to get close, she just unleashes combos onto me... so I don't know what to do, because no matter the direction I try to approach her, she has an answer.
There is probably a weakness or something I don't see and I guess with enough tenacity I will beat her eventually, but I don't want to make it too hard...
Probably some of you will laugh at my lack of skills, but again, this is my fitst time and I got this gifted from friends... though one of those friends wants to play as Isabelle, so there is some extra pressure to unlock her as fast as possible...
@Lemmy_the_Koopa I think I used Ridley’s forward+B on Isabelle. Another you can try is Link. Toss a boomerang then use a running sword attack. Or try Samus’ running grab after a missile. Exploit her dodge from an incoming projectile, and you should be able to follow up with an attack by the time her dodge is over. Isabelle didn’t seem to pocket my projectiles, but that is possible.
If you have a Belmont, you can do major zone control against her.
Hope one of those works for ya! (I too, had to unlock Isabelle for my friend’s daughter)
