Mario 3 was on Nes and it threw lives at you like candy. I don't know why people think the modern games are so much more fair and easier. You want a challenging mario game? Try lost levels or mario 2. Nothing has yet come close to the difficulty of those.

So the reviews for this game look reaaaaally good but I wonder two things:
1.) Is the game any challenging for someone who grew up with the NES? Mario Odyssey was way too easy and I was disappointed that they only added two short levels (dark/darker side) for experienced gamers.
2.) Is the game worth it only for the single player mode? I often get the impression that this is a multiplayer game first.
Not very challenging, no. About the same as Odyssey really. There are a few more of the "hard" bonus levels at the end of the game though. There're 2 extra worlds once you finish the main game that are deliberately harder. So more than just the 2 levels in Odyssey.
Yes definitely worth it for single player. It's more designed around single player than it is around multiplayer if anything. In the sense that almost nothing in the game requires multiple characters to overcome. It's all designed so 1 player can do it.
@chipia
Super Mario Odyssey with NO Game Over screen was like a baby step for 3D platformer games.
Sony did it first from Ratchet & Clank games, Sly Cooper started from number 2, Jak & Daxter. I have played those games on PS3 and i think they offered something better than 3D Mario games that still haven't applied yet.
It gave more chances and opportunity for players for keep trying no matter how many times they failed.
@Anti-Matter Since you've played Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper you developed the annoying habit of posting (spamming) on most Super Mario threads/articles of how those games are better in certain aspects.
Just get over it. Super Mario is and it will be more popular than those games.

Multiplayer is a way to increase the difficulty if anything.
@Dezzy Yeah, if it's a tracked delivery and the seller has put the customer details in you can get emails. It's funny as not matter who it's from they will literally say "your parcel from Your Chosen Retailer is on it's way" everytime.
I don't think mine will get here until Monday, but I'm excited! I kind of blew through the game on my Wii U; pretty sure I never really unlocked any extra stages or anything, either. And I know my daughter will love watching me play.
I think amiibo functionality for Bowser's Fury has already been covered elsewhere, but for 3D World:
Cat Mario : White Cat Bell should spawn
Cat Peach : Random power-up will spawn
Any Super Mario series amiibo (and any figurine variants thereof, such as Smash series Yoshi): Star power-up will spawn
Any other amiibo (including ALL amiibo cards, including the Mario Sports Superstar cards): 1-Up Mushroom will spawn
Thank you for your advice. I guess I will get the game soon, although I'm still a bit let down that games these days don't offer much content for experienced gamers.
Went and bought the game straight after work and spent a fair chunk of Friday night playing Bowser's Fury, where I'm 28 Cat Shines in and a few boss battles down.
I know reviews said you could knock BF over in about four hours but I've been at it almost as long as that, then again I do a lot of exploring.
Haven't played 3D World yet but will get to it once I finish BF.
From what I've played of Fury so far, it's alright and pretty entertaining, without being anything outstanding. Almost feels like playing a beta. Almost.
Also feel like Mario feels incomplete now without Cappy to throw around. I get its a different game, but the mechanics of it all just worked so well, but that's also the impact Odyssey had on me. Feel like no other 3D Mario is going to live up to Odyssey and had expected as much with this.
Was able to play a few levels this morning, and to my annoyance I found out that you can't swap around the jump and run buttons like you can in other Mario games... The current configuration just gives me hand cramps when trying to jump while running. I know I could make a system level change but that is just a hassle. Wish Nintendo did a better job with giving us options.
