Topic: Splatoon 3

@luckyseven Turf war and Splat zones are great now IMO, tower control was greatly improved to a mode I'll now think about playing, but clam blitz and rainmaker didn't change enough. Don't get me wrong, they're still a huge improvement, its just not enough to make me think of playing them.

I didn't get to play in the new Mahi-Mahi Resort in an actual match, but I did check it out in the recon mode. I already like how it's a larger area this time... it was my least favorite stage in the game because of how narrow it was.

Splat Channel outlined the datamine, plus revealed the splaoween banner, which looks good.

Dang. None of the splaoteen gear will have main abilities I use or want. The chunk resources needed to build these four pieces of gear is a bit ridiculous.

Splatoween gear main abilities:
Undead Head - Quick Respawn
Plankton Walker (pirate) - Last Ditch Effort
Swim Reaper (cthulu/scream mask) - Special Saver
Bleak Beak - Quick Super Jump

@Wolfleaf What method were you using to one shot Flyfish with a Splatbomb? Bomb on a ledge method, or the Slammin Lid field method?

Slammin lid field that's near a flyfish:

Set splat bomb on the edge of a ledge. Usually when this scenario presents itself, I'm scrambling so much it's been tough to place a bomb at the edge of a ledge - sometimes throw too far or too short.

Weapons that can one shot flyfish if you aim for the gap between the lids:
-Ink Jet
-low tide grizz canons
-shooting your golden egg during a king salmonid. (I have yet to pull that off)

I pasted this Ink Jet video to play at the time stamp where they one shot by hitting the gap between the Flyfish lids.

(I wrongly posted the other day saying explosher's could one-shot flyfish if you aim for the gap between the two lids. I was wrong about that. So, forgive me if anyone saw that post.)

The Splatoween Gear (along with some neat new banners) are now available in the Switch News tab!....in Japan at least.

Heard people talking about killing flyfish with one bomb, but I'd argue that it's better to maim them (unless its the end of the wave). Killing them with one bomb is cool, but it allows a new one to spawn in they're place (even just one flyfish makes everything you do harder). If instead you destroy just one basket, you prevent another from spawning there and half to dodge half the missiles. Also, if you need extra eggs at the end of a wave, it's way easier to kill a maimed flyfish!

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if flyfish were affected by the tenta missile nerf? (also sorry for just butting into your conversation).

@BingleyBongley Forgive my ignorance but since when has it been possible to one-shot Flyfish with a single bomb? I know you can OHKO them with stuff like Explosher and Inkjet but I wasn't aware you could do the same with only one bomb?

@BingleyBongley Yeah, I'm not clear what rank/hazard level crippling Flyfish becomes the better strategy. Somewhere in EVP 100-200+? (I'm still new to climbing to EVP 200+) Although, I don't blame anyone for crippling Flyfish earlier than that.

So, north america hasn't gotten the Splatoween gear switch news article yet. I believe that's controlled by Nintendo of North America in Seattle Washington, pacfic time. If we're waiting for their work day to start, I don't expect the NA article to go live before 12-1pm eastern time, if it's going to get posted today. (My understanding is, other regions already got it: UK/EU, AUS, Japan.)

I’m really liking the Splatoween gear, particularly the pirate hat. About time too as all of my gear is already levelled up.

I think we need halloween titles, like Undead, Zombie, Ghostly, etc. I'd like to put any of those titles in front of "Salmon Runner". So I can be Undead Salmon Runner, or Zombie Salmon Runner.

Today's Salmon Run weapon rotation is pretty good for Spawning Grounds.

@Wolfleaf yeah, but at the end of the round it doesn't really matter (a new flyfish probably/hopefully wont spawn in time, and even if it does, its only going to get a couple of sets of missiles out)

Completely off topic, but what sensitivity do all of you use? I keep right stick at +4 and change motion controls based on what I'm playing.
+3 for undercover, tenta brella and range blaster
+3.5 for S blast and dualie squelchers
+4 for luna blaster and splat dualies
+4.5 for dapple dualies
Haven't put much thought into sensitivity, so I want to know if its fine to switch it for different weapons, or if its harming my aim.

@Wolfleaf Forgive me if I overhyped one-shotting flyfish. I think it's good for Profreshional rank SR and lower, but somewhere around EVP 100-ish, the optimal strategy changes to crippling them since they Flyfish can respawn more times per wave.

I'm still kind of new to EVP 100-200+ in SR. So, here's a tip summary from the splatoonwiki flyfish page https://splatoonwiki.org/wiki/Flyfish

In higher hazard levels, it is more effective to only destroy one of the missile launchers to keep the Flyfish alive, as the boss spawn rate is higher and it takes a lot of resources to take down a Flyfish. This will prevent new Flyfish from spawning, as the game only allows up to three Boss Salmonids of the same kind (or four if the Hazard Level is at the maximum 333%) to remain on stage at any given time.

The term coined for this technique is called crippling.
Flyfish can only fire 4 missiles with one basket.
A crippled Flyfish can only target the closest player, so keeping control of where missiles are launched is a good thing to think about.

I don’t know why I keep getting unfollowed for this thread 🤔 Anyway, I finally unlocked all the SR gear, leaving me with 0 bronze, 1 silver, and 1 gold scale! Only 149 left for the Koi Slopsuit!

I've pulled off the one shot kill with a splat bomb a few times, but it can be pretty difficult to land the bomb at the edge of a ledge to pull it off. Barely worth the effort honestly.
