When the second half started I tried to play in Tricolor and my team (I’m in Team Family and we were attacking at that time) got both Ultra Signals and did good for most of it, until Team Friends (the defending team) pulled a last minute comeback, and then I got in mirror match hell for a while

And then I played with some others and we could barely even win any match, in some of them the opposite team was even spawncamping us 😭

Team Solo narrowly beats Team Friends for Frosty Fest #3!
Sneak Peek: Solo 36.12%, Friends 32.23%, Family 31.65%
Votes: Solo 45.27%, Friends 32.27%, Family 22.46%
Open: Friends 34.79%, Solo 33.78%, Family 31.43%
Pro: Friends 34.63%, Solo 33.91%, Family 31.46%
Tricolor Batte: Solo 34.66%, Friends 34.20%, Family 31.14%
Overall: Solo 460p, Friends 410p, Family 0p

Wow, this was crazy close. I thought Friends would narrowly beat Solo by racking up points in second place. Winning Tricolor Battle pushed us Soloists over the edge.

Congrats, team! Forgive me for quitting Frosty Fest early, even though I played up to Champion rank. I REALLY need to stop conflating a whole Splatfest with personal experience.

@Dev-N Imma be honest, this whole Splatfest has literally been against Frye, especially with the amount of mirror matches most of us in Team Family got that contributed to absolutely nothing, and also almost always getting curbstomped (and spawncamped a couple times) by Team Friends and Team Solo, I’m actually wondering if all the sweats joined those teams just to keep Frye from getting anything

And since this is possibly the last FrostyFest for Splatoon 3, poor Frye will never be able to make a FrostyFest comeback

Actually it seems like the Splatfest system is made to be against Frye in general, from the least votes to mirror matches to almost or literally no points

I do have a bad feeling Frye getting absolutely nothing in this Splatfest will end up discouraging people from choosing her teams again

Atp Splatfests feel like realistically it’s only Shiver vs. Big Man, and if that’s how they want to keep doing it with this system then maybe the next game should just go back to 2-way Splatfests

Version 11 is making MAJOR gameplay changes to Turf War. Now there will be health bars, different hit boxes, a Flow Aura for when you do well splatting opponents, making it harder to hit a swimming opponent, and more.

I don't know, the changes themselves don't sound too bad, but doesn't anyone besides me just think that this kind of thing is scary? I need to rant a bit.

I mean, suppose you're someone who has played Splatoon 3 since launch day (it's your favorite game of all time), and really like the way that the battles were already. But now, starting on January 29th, you can't play online battles anymore without updating. So you update, only to realize that battles just aren't the same anymore, and the new gimics like Flow Aura make things way too hectic. You'd probably be fine if those gimics were added to Splatoon 4 when that game launched, so that way, you can at least return to Splatoon 3 (or 2, for that matter) if you didn't like the online battles in 4 because of the new gimics. But now that option just... won't exist (for 3, anyway). It's scary 😨.

One thing to mention is that, as strange as what I'm about to say next sounds, I was actually interested in picking up this game back in 2022, during the game's hype cycle, especially since one of my younger sisters was really into Splatoon at the time (she ended up skipping 3 as well, but that's because she had recently gotten into Roblox when 3 came out). However, I completely lost just about all interest in the game when it was announced that there were going to be a lot more limited-time events in the game (this was back when I absolutely despised limited-time events in games, I don't really despise them anymore, but they're still far from my favorite thing in the world). Also, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were coming out that same fall, so I prioritized Pokémon Violet for Christmas that year, then I spent so long playing just that one game 😅. It was my most played game of 2023 😅. By the time I finally got Animal Crossing New Horizons in September of 2023, I had finally accepted that I would just never get Splatoon 3, since Splatoon is one of those games that it's better to get closer to launch. Also, when Splatoon 3 first came out, my two younger siblings were watching a YouTube gamer that we like play Splatoon 3. I watched some of it too, and honestly... I didn't like some of the changes that the game made from the very beginning. I didn't like that the squid surge would just suddenly stop your wall swimming movement. I didn't like that you had to launch yourself from a flying thing at the start (reminded me of bad memories of when I tried the Global Testfire for 3 since it was free and ended up launching myself into the water quite a bit, and when I did manage to make it to land, I couldn't launch myself that far). I really didn't like that they got rid of the starting platform that was already on the ground.

If I had gotten Splatoon 3, then I probably would've gotten used to those new changes over time. But now, with even more changes... if I had been playing Splatoon 3 all this time, I might actually be quitting the game now, depending on how those updates affected my battles. It probably doesn't help that I just couldn't get into the games in the first place (I tried both my sister's copy of 2 and the Global Testfire for 3) because of the motion controls aiming. No, I am not trying to damper the excitement that some people are feeling for the update. I'm glad that some people are excited for it. And no, I do not hate Splatoon. Ever since I first heard of it and watched some of the original Wii U game on YouTube, I have always thought of it as an interesting idea. But at this point, I think I just need to admit that the series is not for me, no matter how interesting I think it is 😢. I apologize in advance if this dampered the excitement of the update announcement for anyone, I just really needed to rant for a bit. Rant over.

@Nep-Nep-Freak If you've never gotten splatoon, or you like a shooter, or first person shooter, there's so much game there. I'm constantly amazed by how missing the first two years of the game is equated with missing the boat. There's so much depth to the game. If you're curious about the game, or like first person shooters, you probably really should just buy or borrow the game to try it out.

While the first two years of the game has the marketing hype and new content sprinkled in each season, all of that conent is still in the game. It's all still new to you. I think the fuss over splatfests massively understates just how much game there really is. Splatoon was one of biggest pleasant suprises for me, and it's been the most played game on my console every year since I got Splatoon 2 in fall of 2017. If you're going to buy a Splatoon & want to play online, buy the most recent splatoon, which is Splatoon 3, since that's where the online player base is.

@WoomyNNYes, another thing is that I don't really have the time to get into any other games right now... but if I did have the time to play a shooter game, Splatoon 3 would be my first pick.

@Nep-Nep-Freak See, I disagree. While change is scary, this game has had literally hundreds of changes over its lifespan. This is a lot at once, but it's by no means unheard of. This is simply the way things go with live-service-style games. This change is very impactful in a very positive way for players at any level. While I can understand you disliking Splatoon 3, that comes down to personal preference — the changes you mentioned disliking were actually very important for the balance of the game, and without them, it would be in a much worse spot overall (for everybody from beginners to pros).

Idk how I feel about health bars. For Thermal Ink it makes perfect sense. But I don't think it should be revealed other than that.

But, we'll see. Maybe it'll grow on me.

It pays to be an aggressive player, but I hope Aura Flow doesn’t happen too much and breaks the game. HP bars don’t concern me. I just find it odd considering how little health Inklings and Octolings have in Splatoon to begin with. I’d say the changed hit boxes and making it harder to hit a swimming opponent might concern me most.

If the game does get broken, we know there’ll be another gameplay update much sooner then usual!

@Nep-Nep-Freak the guy above already answered you for me, so i just wanna ask.... how did you land in the water so much? on most maps you have to practically go as far in a direction as possible to do that.

@squiddu-real, I guess it was just the way I held the controller 🤣. The way I hold the controller normally might not be suited for Splatoon at all 🤣. I just brought up all those changes from launch day to compare them to the new changes in the upcoming update, that's all.

Dang I missed a lot apparently. I will say, I find the health bar decision absolutely bizarre, just because it seems so unnecessary. People die in like two seconds lol

Bigmanfan

CaleBoi25

@Bigmanfan it's definitely helpful for getting combos, like say if you hit someone, then die, now your teammates have a better idea of how much health is left

I want to trust nintendo, but I am a little concerned the changes might make the game too focused on splats. I guess we'll see.

oh don't worry, it absolutely will prioritize splats, but that moreso affects turf war mindset. ranked was always more focused on splats anyways

I personally don't foresee this causing any HUGE changes. Getting 3 quick splats is hard, and getting even more within the time limit to keep it going is harder. I think it will obviously be a "thing," but I doubt we'll be seeing it in huge amounts. I could be wrong, though.
