I'm going to guess, it's because maybe only experience players are playing at that time, or you're getting matched with UK+EU.

Q: Are the SR players in NA really that bad?
A: In fact, it's the worst I've seen it in the past week.

I'm getting matched with newbs on a whole new level, now. It's as if there's literally been an exodus of SR regulars, or people that know how to play SR. My teammates virutally ALWAYS have newb banners with callie, marie, or cuddlefish badges (newbs who are working their way through the single player for the first time).

In order to grind for scales and king salmonids, I MUST to demote myself. In pro 3 & pro 2, I can't make quotas, I struggle to complete 3 waves. It's abysmal. It's the worst since SR regulars started leaving the game last spring. If I want to complete 3 waves, I MUST demote myself to pro 1, pro 0, sometimes Over Achiever. And now, I have to keep demoting myself to stay in pro 1, or pro 2. If I have 3+ successful jobs & rank up, I reliably won't get past wave 1 or 2.

I tolerated this new normal (for Pennsylvania, eastern US) for the past week. SOMETIMES I got a veteran SR teammate at the beginning of the 2 hour map rotation. Now, I can't even get lucky when there's a new weapon rotation over the weekend. This weekend, SR was almost exclusively purely SR newbs. It's astonishing. Nintendo's matching or difficulty algorithm is completely broken for this current game population in the US. I'd rather wait 1-2 minutes in matching, if that's what it takes, to match me with other SR veterans. That's what's needed, but not how matching works. Teammates don't take down Slammin Lids, Flyfhish, Stingers, Drizzlers, or shoot down Dizzler missiles. These people are clearly brand new to SR. If you're not dying from drizzler rain, you may end up struggling to throw a splatbomb into a flyfish bin, because tenta missiles are pounding you and shaking the ground so much, you can't aim/throw your bomb.

And it's amazing now, at this low of a rank, I frequently only get bronze scales from encountering or defeating king salmonids. I've gone 3, possibly 4 king salmonids in a row without a silver scale. WHAT!?

Salmon Run seems almost unplayable until there's a Big Run, maybe, or the next grizzco wild card rotation, or maybe a real good weapon rotation.

On a positive note, I've gotten better at one-shotting flyfish with Inkjet & cannons.

So, @CaleBoi25, if you see my SR rank is really low, like Pro 0, or Over Achiever, it's because I've been demoting myself as far down as needed so I can get king salmonids. If I get to pro 2+, I usually end up with a string of 8-9 jobs without a king salmonid encounter. It's so awful, and such a waste of my time, I have to demote.

Is it me or is there a significantly more amount of lag recently?- especially when specials are being used at the same time

@_Lime I've been seeing more lag than normal in Salmon Run. In the past week, I've been encountering gold eggs in Salmon Run that cannot be picked up. That used to happen about once in 1-3 months. I've seen it about 3-4+ times in the past several days. Or I've also seen extremely long delays with picking up gold eggs.

I finally made it back into S rank the other night after a month of grinding! Matchmaker was gracious enough not to completely sandbag me in a rank-up series for once and I made it out in 3W-2L. So glad that’s over, but I’m dreading the S->S+0 Rank-Up series which has been a bigger hurdle for me. At least I won’t be waiting until the end of the season again to try to tackle it.

@Budda Depends on the time but coming from EST in NA myself (GMT -4), I always try to avoid afternoon to evening on weekdays, roughly 3PM-8PM, because the quality of the players I get are highly questionable, Lol. That’s for any mode, too. From 10PM-4AM the players generally get better the later you play. We also start getting more and more Japanese players filling in spots, so SR may get better and the regular modes more difficult. But yeah, once people start shore rushing entire waves, ignoring standing spots in Glowflies and Grillers, not prioritizing Flyfish and Drizzer shots, etc. I tend to just leave SR for a while because it’ll probably not get any better anytime soon.

@WoomyNNYes Issues with skill matching are generally a result of small playerbase.

@Grumblevolcano That's one way to sum it up. But I can still get matches quickly. So, the player base isn't so small that it takes longer to form a team for SR.

The time of the day thing is very noticable even here in Europe. When I play past 2-3pm I get flooded with newbs.
But in the morning 6-11am I get paired with SR diehards 80% of the time. I get up to VP200+ in no time. When I'm past 200, it's irrelevant when I play the game and I'm getting mached with good players guaranteed. Well.. Good enough to win the shift. It's probably because the machmaking is out of range of Pro or something.

This is going to be the first Splat game to go offline completely excluding the temporary outage earlier this year. As someone who started with 3 and didn’t play 1 until like two months ago it still hurts

@luckyseven Mannn, it always saddens me that I had a Wii U but I never got Splatoon 1. I wish I could have said I was a day one fan lol.

There's 3 Splatoon 1 stages missing on the Switch (Urchin Underpass, Saltspray Rig, Bluefin Depot) and 3 seasons of content left. It's seeming unlikely all of them would be saved unless they choose to do something like release Side Order alongside the next console and at the same time announce extended Splatoon 3 support (e.g. 1 more year of updates).

@Vortexeo I didn’t get a Wii U until way later totally didn’t buy it just to play Xenoblade X! including me getting Splatoon 1 a few months ago but I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve only played a few matches of 1 but it makes me wish I could’ve gotten into the series earlier since it was really fun from what I played.

@Grumblevolcano I’m hoping we get more Splat 1 stages in the future for that reason considering if they’ll be gone forever by April 2024. I also wish more than 2 stages would be added per season

So um, funny story...my choice in the September 2023 Splatfest was actually based on a misunderstanding.

I mean for sweats I can definitely see why they care but wow, I hear people sabotaging teams and what it and for what? A few more shells? (Btw sorry I took to long to reply to this…I’m going to be saying that a lot today)

I reached Catalog level 88. Deep Cut Neon sign is within sight. The banner at the end of the catalog has always been cool until now. This catalog's final banner is quite weak.

I've been getting the 1st win of the day bonus every day, plus playing Salmon run until I get a boss salmonid, which has ended up giving me about two catalog levels a day.
