It'll be interesting to see how Nogami et al try to emulate the community feel of Miiverse without Miiverse. I wish Squidverse every success.
I was also hoping the single player mode would be beefed up too, as it's the part of the game least likely to receive of online updates. Splatoon's single player was great, and I believe the game has the potential to be a brilliant, standalone 3D-Splatformer in its own right, even before getting into the multiplayer.
The chance in fashions is interesting too. I think the new lead song is excellent, so I'm eager to hear more of the soundtrack. The change from pure 90's bubblegum to something slightly edgier and more sophisticated across visual and sound design should hopefully help give the game its own unique character. That and haircuts. The haircuts are groovy, and mean the boys don't have to settle for looking quite so much less cool than the girls this time.
I hope we don't see Splatoon 3 until much later in the console's lifespan. Let's be honest, with Splatoon 1 being a massive success and Splatoon 2 already year-one title instead of being a port, Splatoon 3 is already on the cards before Splatoon 2 is even out. And you know what, fantastic! It really shows how good Nintendo can be with IPs. They can turn a simple idea and make an absolute beast of a game that is a redeeming factor to an unpopular console. Splatoon on a popular console might even become a key-IP to Nintendo
That's all my opinion of course. Just speaking from my developer and gamer instinct.
@Grandpa_Pixel I don't think they will release a 3 on Switch. It's like releasing MK9 later in the console life span, doesn't seem a good move to me. And let's not forget that, as you said, it can become a key IP for Nintendo. Continuity is a major factor in this kind of games
@FGPackers@Octane I would not throw the idea away so easily. We have had from our key IPs multiple situations before
Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks
Link's Awakening and Oracle of Seasons/Ages
Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask
Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess
Fire Emblem Awakening, Fates and Echoes
Mario...nuff said
Pikmin 1 and 2
(just to name a few)
The realm of possibility is there for a Splatoon 3 on the Switch. However what will determine that is there longevity for the Splatoon 2 support. If it lasts only 1-2 years than Splatoon 3 on the Switch is very much on the cards.
@Grandpa_Pixel But we have to consider that Splatoon is based on multiplayer. All games you reported are single player, at least in the major part. By the way i didn't throw the idea away, it just does not seem realistic enough (maybe good?) to me
@FGPackers That is true. And I suppose Mario Kart and Smash Bros do only come once in a while.
Splatoon is a very odd situation. You can play most of Mario Kart and Smash Bros alone if you want but Splatoon is the only major-IP that requires online/multiplayer to get the most out of.
Honestly, I hope for Splatoon 3 on the Switch successor. And a wealth of Splatfests, content and single player content added throughout the years
@Grandpa_Pixel True, but have we ever had multiple entries of Smash or Mario Kart on one system? As you said yourself, Splatoon is mostly an online experience, and with Nintendo's evergreen titles, I wonder if they even want to split the userbase by releasing another Splatoon on the same console. If Splatoon 2 does well, and if a lot of people play online for a good while, then I think Nintendo would rather keep supporting that game.
@Octane Has Nintendo said how they plan to roll out the updates this time? I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up making you pay for maps and modes this time round, perhaps not for everything bu certainly for a fair amount of it.
But I also see this game being huge in Japan and kinda only do alright in the West. Especially based on what I am seeing around the internet, there's no real excitement from people who played it, likely because it's really just Splatoon with new stages and tweaks - nothing new.

@FragRed I doubt that. If they go the same as last time it won't be a complete game for a long time. Besides we will get charged for online this time and I wouldn't be surprised if this games biggest update comes on the other side of that charge.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@FragRed I don't think they have. I'm not against paid DLC provided the base game contains enough content on its own. Mario Kart 8's DLC was pretty good in terms of value, maybe something like that? Although I do wonder how it'll work though, but since DLC in MK8 didn't manage to split the userbase, I'm sure they find a way around that. Anyway, let's not give them ideas! I loved the free updates in Splatoon, so I hope they continue that in Splatoon 2.
