@shani was there some sort of multi-player update? Can I play with the people in my house in any way?
Yes, by buying another Switch and another copy of Splatoon.
What's so hard to understand about this? This wasn't, isn't and never will be a game that you can play in multiplayer on one device. You don't need to wait for an update to change it, it just won't happen and it wouldn't make any sense either.
I don't know what you expect but obviously you didn't think it through. It's like asking to turn an apple into an orange. It's just not possible. From a technical standpoint but also balance-wise.
I don't see you complaining that Breath of the Wild (for example) has no local multiplayer, why is it so hard for you to understand this?
Well Splatoon 1 did have local multiplayer, but it was kind of barebones.
And it used 2 screens which wouldn't work as easily unless you go split screen.
However I'm not actually sure how well that would work for Splatoon where you need to see a lot on the sides as well as a bit vertically due to the focus on turf coverage.
To be honest I was kind of hoping for Salmon Run split screen though.
The maps aren't very vertical much except for some enemies so I think it could have worked out.
@shani How far did you get into the tournament before being eliminated, if you were at all?
@-Green- I've seen Dynamo Rollers in both Turf War and Tower Control, but nowhere else. It seems most people aren't at the level to have them, and Rollers in general are much more unpopular in Spla2n.
The Dualie Squelchers are quickly becoming my main in every mode. They are just that fun to use and I am rather good with them.
By the way, do you guys think we should have a separate thread to discuss new weapons/stages? This thread can seem kind of clogged with posts about too many things.
@BLP_Software Eh, the mothership isn't that bad. It's just a little tricky to collect the necessary eggs with how spread they are (plus the mothership theft if ignored).
It's the thrice-cursed Glowfly event that screws me over the most. It's incredibly hard to coordinate and survive with how fast everything shifts, and even if you do survive it tends to leave you drained of specials for the remaining rounds, because for me at least, the game LOVES to make it the first wave. Even Mr. Grizz doesn't really have any good advice for the mode, basically amounting to telling you how screwed you are if you've got the flies on you.
@Spanjard The key to using a charger well in combat is keen awareness of the enemy and their movements. That and good aim of course. If you see someone after you, use your sub weapon to deter them before trying to shoot. Also try not to stand in one place holding a charge for too long, as it both makes you an obvious target and you emit a targeting laser that makes it easier for opponents to hide from your shot.
@Spanjard Firstly, if you aren't already, use the motion controls. You really need the precision.
Keep in mind that opponents can see your laser sight, so you're not gonna catch anyone by surprise if you've been aiming at them for a bit. It's better to just suddenly point and shoot someone, if you can pull it off. Although even if you miss by a bit, the ink can give them trouble.
Generally you want to get to a good vantage point and stay there as long as it makes any sense. Use the map to watch for signs of people sneaking up on you. If they do get close, throw a bomb at your feet and get outta there. Failing that, just spam uncharged shots and pray.
Of course, a more proactive playstyle is also possible, especially with the ability to hold your charge for a moment while swimming. But you still want to keep your distance.
It's kind of interested in that in the first game I avoided ranked battles like the plague and only play Turf War, but now in Splatoon 2 I'm playing different ranked battles every chance I get and having fun. I guess it was because how so many people (the online hall echos) sound stressed out playing it, I thought it was all business and didn't want to be like that too. That and I think I become less insecure about my ratings and what others can see and judge.
In any case I'm going to take advantage today's Salmon Run. I enjoy this weapon layout and stage better than the last one.
A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

I'm doing awful in Salmon Run. Slow fire weapons that cover minimal turf seem to have a disadvantage in the mode. Scoped Charger and Clash Blaster don't seem like too good of fits.
@BLP_Software That one wasn't as bad for a couple of reasons imo. The Roller covers turf like no ones business and killed the lackeys really easily. The Ink Brush while lacking in range could kill quickly and played great in the mode with its speed. The Splatling at least had the ability to mow down enemies quickly.
Hooray, finally made it to Profreshional! It helped that I wasn't completely shafted with weapon choices this recruitment period.
@Nintendoer The dynamo used to be my go-to for SplatZones, but I haven't had as much success with them in Splatoon 2. I just think that having the choice between a vertical slosh and a horizontal slosh (while great for a standard roller) becomes way too critical when each slosh takes seconds to happen on the Dynamo. I miss having everything I need in the one horizontal slosh.
@-Green- Yeah, the Inkbrush could get you out of a lot of seemingly hopeless scenarios with it's blazing speed. Does struggle quite a bit against high-hp targets like Cohocks, though.
If only you had the option to just shoot the center part of the Flyfish (albeit being somewhat resistant), like most other bosses with alternate takedown means. And when you consider the other boss that forces you to wait to damage it without a Stingray, the Steelhead, is slow, has to get somewhat close to attack and can reasonably be taken out by a single player with the right weapon (like a charger), Flyfish just stick out like sore thumbs.
Oh, and the Clash Blaster's problem isn't speed. It's just too weak. If you're not a shooter and can't take out a Chum in a single direct hit, you stink at Salmon Run.
@Nintendoer I know, I just think it's too compromising for the Dynamo as opposed to the other rollers, with it's vertical slosh not having the range to justify its ink efficiency. Sure, the verticle slash makes the dynamo much more mobile now, but I think that kills some of its charm. I used to have to depend on my teammates for movement and for cover, a nice trade off for being such a dominator over a wide space. It was like heavy artillery that required multiple teammates to make it work, but devastating when it did. Now, it's more independent, but not nearly as fearsome.
Who knows, maybe I just have to spend more time with it
@-Green- I think they just made it so that despite using a horizontal slosh, the only fatal hitbox was in the very center of the slosh. Which was just fine, if you had good enough aim.
Testing it in the testing area, Splatoon 2's horizontal hitbox is actually pretty wide, even if it has a much shorter range.
Got my first team kill today. I splatted 4 players with one Splat Bomb. I searched for the screenshot button but wasn't fast enough to capture the moment. I haven't taken screenshots before so it took me a while to realize I can do that and then press the button. Also had a match where I killed 3 players with one bomb, took the Rainmaker, got closer to enemy base and got splatted by the 4th player but at the same time, I was able to shoot my gun and splatted the same 3 players I splatted before, now with the Rainmaker. I'm A- in Rainmaker now.
