While some of the physical goodies sound nice, I am glad I got it on the eShop. It has been installed on my Switch for about a week now I think. As soon as it unlocks, I should be straight in. Do we know what time it unlocks, GMT? You would assume midnight, but some of the Steam games I played on day one didn’t unlock until like 5pm or later on the day of release.
I'm all pre-loaded and ready to go. I had a pre-order with Amazon that came with some goodies but once the shipping estimate slipped to Saturday I cancelled and used my remaining game voucher instead. Even better, I am off work tomorrow so I will dive in late tonight if I'm still up or early in the morning!
My steelbook copy arrived earlier. It came with a cleaning cloth as well printed with the cover boxart and surprisingly a plastic case for the cart too. Played for an hour and a half already and the world just feels soooo alive! The grainy treatment feels like its made on a film reel from a 90s blockbuster movie which works so well with the game's vibe. Hope everyone is having as much fun as I am.
Only just started playing but already it feels better than Nocturne in like every way. It has a proper tutorial to introduce you to each mechanic and a bunch of quality of life improvements right out of the gate to make traversing the world feel more like a proper adventure, rather than a war of attrition expedition as you track backwards and forwards to see how far you can get.
Still runs a little choppy when docked, even on the old school TV I found.
Good lord, I've game over'd twice already in the first couple of hours. "Hard" mode ain't playing around.
@Pizzamorg I haven't really had any issues with performance so far in docked mode. Probably going to switch over to handheld to try that out now.
Really liking the emphasis on exploration so far. It's even more pronounced than in the 3DS games, and it's totally lacking in the 'rat in a maze' quality Nocturne had.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
I am playing on normal and it feels fine so far, although I felt like at one point the difficulty in Nocturne just spiked and never came back down again so I assume the same will happen here. I am about an hour in and it is still basically the glorified tutorial. Enjoying it though, I like all the extra control you have over shaping your character, demon negotiating is so much easier than it was in Nocturne (I am already starting to stack up fusion fodder), and just all of the quality of life stuff and proper tutorialisation. I am almost glad I played Nocturne first as it is giving me appreciation for the smallest of efforts here.
Only got to try it for like 20 minutes, didn't even get to the first battle yet, but totally loving what I'm seeing so far. Even if the school might as well have a "Welcome to Inaba" sign in front of it.
@Ralizah "and it's totally lacking in the 'rat in a maze' quality Nocturne had." That's great news. That design concept should stay locked away on PS2/Saturn where it belongs. This is totally a handheld game, though
Nocturne's....okay. The battle system is timeless, the world was really unique for its time, but the game is very much a product of 5th/6th gen design. I don't get the praise that game gets today. Even base IV was light years ahead of Nocturne in gameplay.
