I'm still on Chapter 8. Some evenings I don't play at all (yesterday was all about Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak hype) and other days I'll just do a few story sequences, recruit a character or two, and put it down, then next night do the battle, etc.

I might be part Entish on my father's side 🤔

Finished the morality route now i think, gonna play again at least once more for the true ending. So far, i think i prefer Octopath Traveller over this, but i guess that is mostly because i found myself to be being less impressed by the gameplay than i thought i would be. It is a lot less tedious though, since you can just change the difficulty on the flash making the overall experience pretty smooth. The music i was a bit disappointed in as there were no straight up bangers like in Octopath Traveller and the writing is about the same level, although there is a coherent story which already makes it better.
So, overall i am mildly disappointed, although that might change after my new game plus run, it is still a fine game with solid tactical gameplay and my first game a la FFT i played, so i guess i know what to expect from those games from now on.

Ah, no worries. Appreciate the thought though.

I watched an Easy Allies review yesterday and dude was blown away by Triangle Strategy. I'm seeing more and more ppl come to realize just how incredible this game is. I love it.

After taking a few day break from the game from catching a wierd 24hr bug, I finally got back Into the game. Finished chapter 7, and loved that little twist at the end of it.

The more I think about it I have some un answered questions so I may redo the game on a different route and then redo the golden route once I have everyone.

After finishing the other three endings, I started working on the new game plus going for the golden route.

Finished the golden route now, and actually enjoyed the game a bit more. The true ending was nice and i guess i will just watch the two last routes on youtube. Can't imagine many people wanting to do this route on higher difficulties without new game plus

This is going to be my next game now that I'm done with Elden Ring. Debating whether to start fresh or pick up from my demo save data.

Question: can I play through this like a classic FE game where I just do the story battles, or will grinding be factored into the balancing?

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

There's recommended levels for battles, that don't go up if you do grind, @Ralizah .... It's purely about whether you can manage them if they're higher levels Although you really want to check the optional bits, being story related & offering various things that make them worth doing

@Ralizah Depends on your difficulty, i played my first playthrough which was not the golden route (that one is slightly harder) on normal most of the time and did all the optional mock battles only once, which worked after finding the right strategy.... actually i just remembered that i didn't factor in the fact that you keep your exp everytime you try again so i might be wrong about that.
If you go easy or very easy, you shouldn't have any problems whatsoever and you can always change the difficulty up and down on the spot.
You will only really have to do a larger amount of grind if you want to farm for materials imo or maybe play on hard.

Grinding is marginalized in this game to a fair extent. If you're under-leveled, you'll gain a ton of XP, sometimes an entire level at once. If you're over-leveled, your XP gains will become minimal, even as low as 4 XP per turn. So you're naturally going to stay within +/- 2 levels just buy playing normally.

Almost every story battle had a recommended level 1 higher than my units, and it was never a problem. Strategy matters far more than level in this game.

You'll definitely want to watch the side stories as they're only a minute or two long but add perspective from various parties across the world- what they think of unfolding events and what their motivations may be going forward.

I only did each mock battle once (since you only earn money for them the first time, though you do still earn XP and spoils for any additional run throughs).

I'd transfer your demo data. No need to do all that over again. Especially since Prologue is the slowest part of the game. You jump in right at Chapter 4 and it's off to the races. No major decisions have happened yet (aside from going to Hyzante or Aesfrost but that has no real impact beyond the map you played and the character you recruited- can always go the other way on a 2nd playthrough).

Speaking of which, you're highly encouraged to do a 2nd playthrough. The Golden Route isn't really meant for your first playthrough. Your first is meant to be blind- making the choices you feel are best and letting the cards fall how they may. You can check a guide to make the specific choices necessary but it kinda ruins the whole point (imo). At least for first playthrough anyways.

I just finished the demo for this game and man, this new demo feels so much better than the first one when it dropped a while back. I can definitely say that I will be adding this to the wish list!

Ya, the first demo is always the beta where they're soliciting feedback.

The second demo is always the pre-release version with post-feedback changes implemented, so it makes sense the newer demo would seem better. It also didn't throw you into the middle of the story, which results in you not caring about the characters or understanding what's going on, and that's a pretty big issue for a game like this with such a strong focus on characters and story.

Well, checking back in after a week or so (I don't get much time to play during the week): I beat it!

What a fantastic game. I think I overall like Three Houses better on the Switch, but this and Three Houses are my favorite strat RPGs since the original FF Tactics.

I peeked at just a few things you guys were saying. I'm by no means amazing at this type of game, but I never felt the need to grind in this, and I only had to replay 2 maps, I believe. I actually never had to replay any of the mock battles, and I never even redid any of the mock battles for more money/exp. I found the final two story battles to be some of the easiest of the game. Maybe I just finally figured out how awesome Benedict's turn-altering moves are lol

I just loved the storyline. Absolutely loved it. The development of the characters. I was so nice to take part in a 40+ hour, unified RPG story again. I only started to tire of the long-winded dialogue around the 30+ hour mark, but then I get a second wind and I was right back into it.

Anna remained my MVP right up until the end. Such an awesome tool kit on her character, so much fun to play. This game is definitely more challenging than Three Houses, which I appreciated: no rewind makes you think just a second more about every decision. In my experience it's also harder to create one character who can just kind of steamroll everything and become the rock on which the enemies throw themselves to die, which was very doable in Three Houses due to the back-and-forth nature of every attack action (only certain characters can counterattack in this game).

Weak points, in my opinion: The class growth and skill system is definitely weaker and less customizable than Disgaea or even FE games. I'm also not a fan of the mock battles in the tavern serving as the filler battles. I'd much rather you travel around the map and be exposed to random battles to possibly take on, or maybe just have random battles selectable from the map at certain points. The tavern system just didn't appeal to me, and like I said, I never went back to redo any of them. Some of the currency systems were a bit odd to me, too. Kudos are neat, but I feel like they can certainly use some tweaking in a sequel.

If you're any kind of strat RPG fan, don't overthink this purchase: just buy it. It's a must-play and (hopefully) a new series in the genre (ending heavily hints there will be a sequel, for sure). This is worth it at full price, no doubt about it. I can't really think of any reason beyond the lengthy dialogue that any fan of the genre would dislike this game, it truly delivers.

Yeah, I don't get why they did that for the original demo, though, @JaxonH .... I bet everyone who gave feedback said the same thing about the being dumped into the middle of the story!
I agree about the tavern mock battles, @rallydefault! Since you basically don't go around the map, it'd have to be extra battles available on there or something

@BruceCM @Solaine @JaxonH Thanks, folks. That sounds perfect. I was doing all of the optional content in the demo anyway, so it sounds like this is one of those games where grinding is totally unnecessary if I do everything.
