Hogwarts Legacy, I'm getting Pokemon Violet till further notice. But I feel oddly uneasy about this game, it looks amazing 100%, just something about it doesn't feel right... Could just be the caffeine talking to me though...

I will say it 500 times I LOVE this little guy.

Woah now. That's a bit much, no? It's just Pokemon.

I'm gonna get both. Scarlet will be my main game, and Violet will be my secondary playthrough.

The newest trailer definitely got me more excited than the first trailer. All of the new Pokemon shown look very cool and these are finally box legendaries that I like again (the only other ones being Lugia/Ho-Oh and Yveltal/Xerneas). It also seems like this heavily expands on the foundation that Sword&Shield laid out with the online coop and wild areas as many people were expecting.
I have to say though that it really is time to finally add voice overs.

For me it will depend on the differences between the two games. I’m curious about the two professor mechanics and wonder how if at all that impacts the story. If so I may get both. But for now I am thinking scarlet.

I'm glad to see that there will be some more substantial differences between the two versions (however minimal they may be) to make the second playthrough just a touch less repetitive. Black/White was a step in the right direction, but it seems that they've mostly abandoned any significant version differences with the 3DS games and beyond.

@MajinSoul : They should at least add voiceovers for major cutscenes. Another issue is that the player's and rival's names are often featured in the text, and that wouldn't lend itself well to being voiced. With that said, the opening cinematic of Sword/Shield was a little embarrassing with Rose merely miming throughout, and there was no reason why that couldn't have been voiced, as well as scenes with legendary reveals that involve another character (who does not directly address the player).

I don't particularly mind either way, but they should also add some emotive murmurs for characters, even if they don't utter any dialogue otherwise. And I would overwhelmingly prefer that any spoken dialogue be kept to a minimum, as most voiced dialogue in games is so cringe-inducing as we're typically exposed to the same old voices with the same old phoned in performances in a lot of games.

I would be more than glad if they pulled a Great Ace Attorney in that regard since I'm a big fan of voicing voiceless characters personally and the approach that that game took was the best of both worlds for me. The Xenoblade-esque murmurs would be appreciated as well though if they were to take that route (which they kind of did in PLA with the grunts of the protagonists but on a much smaller scale).

Also, I'm going to assume Mareanie being confirmed makes you pretty happy. Even if they've scarred the minds of every singles player in existence, I'm still very happy they're here (it may even push me to go for a shiny one of them in SwSh honestly).

Pokemons strength has never been its writing but some form of voice acting is something they should aim for as the games continue to become grander in scope and visuals. If done well it adds a lot to interactions that simple text cannot convey. Although again, it’s not as important since the writing is pretty basic and lacks much nuance.

I think some people tend to be against it because they have bad experiences with games with poorly directed voice acting. So they default to disliking the concept rather than recognizing it was more so the execution

@Fizza : I'm not that crazy about Mareanie, though it's one of my favourites from Sun/Moon (and I particularly loved its Japanese anime voice and name), but unless it has a new evolution or Toxapex gets a new form, I won't be training another one as I usually won't have the same Pokémon on my team more than once (unless it's shiny).

And I've been too lazy to change it; though I have been meaning to change it to Smoliv, and since you've inadvertently reminded me, I'll get to that in a mo'.

@Silly_G Impeccable taste (and I'm not just talking about real life olives).

I like using the Japanese names as nicknames sometimes if I have a personal connection to that name. For example, when Lycanroc first got revealed, all I knew it as was Lugarugan (the Japanese name) and ever since, every Midnight Lycanroc I've caught, I've always called Luga as a sort of tradition.

@Fizza : It was already love at first sight, and I didn't even realise it was based on an olive until I gazed upon the official artwork, which only made me love it that much more. People can pooh-pooh the anthropomorphic rubbish bags, ice creams, and chandeliers until their teeth turn blue, but I freaking love them. And as stupid as it sounds, I really, really want Smoliv to evolve into a pizza... with pineapple.

Better yet, I would absolutely lose my marbles if they give us a corn on the cob Pokémon that evolves into nachos.
