I can't believe they did THAT joke at the electric Gym in the German localisation...
Finding Clavel in the crowd thing. They call him just "schlendender Mann" which means 'strolling man '- and later they call him (as a noun) "Schlendermann", which just sounds like Slanderman. OMG 😂

@Hayter
Pepper is his name in Japanese also.

Can I just say that I love overworld shinies. Almost missed a Toedscool but overall I got three so far. ANOTHER Mareep, which puts me at, like, half a dozen I just randomly get at full odds in almost every game it's in, a Voltorb, which I was actually missing for ages and the running mushroom, whom I love dearly.

@Dom_31 I wonder how many people will accidentally knock out shinies when using Let's Go mode...

At least 2'8".

How do I know if a Pokemon is shiny?

Dom_31

@Buizel you can't! Your pokemon will refuse to knock out shinies.

@Kermit1Pineapple shinies have a different color than usual, you'll notice if you start a battle and the wild pokemon sparkles.

TeaCatherine

Did they seriously up the shiny rate in this game or something? (That's just the impression I got from looking at this thread.)

@TeaCatherine I haven't found a single shiny yet so my luck is like normal.

Eel

It the same, but like with Legends Arceus, you have multiple Pokémon being generated at the same time and you can spot them at a glance, so seeing a shiny might seem easier.

@TeaCatherine they did not. But giving that you see encounters in the overworld instead of them being random you basically "cycle" through them much, MUCH faster. Instead of one at a time you'll often get half a dozen of a species at a time so chances for you to see something are higher even if the ACTUAL odds are the same.

TeaCatherine

@Dom_31 Ah, right figured it was something like that.

Speaking of, apparently I missed one myself because the game says I fought 4 shinies... 😭

I think this song should have been in the game instead of that Ed Sheeran song.

Um my game has crashed several times, it's really starting to irk me.
The most egregious of these was in-battle my fuecoco flew off into the horizon after being hit and the game crashed, I was laughing really hard but it's still annoying.

@Fizza the weirdest thing is that there's no real way to tell HOW it evolves afaik. They just happen to pick up a kid or two off-screen lol

Even the open world design itself, like it is just nothing really. It is tiny, with a huge amount of it cut off for the entirety of the campaign, there are basically no landmarks whatsoever and you could argue that the only thing that matters in these environments are the Pokemon as it is a Pokemon game, but wouldn't it be nice to have other things to do, see and interact with in the spaces between the questlines? Again, like this shouldn't be a big ask, all the money they have.

While I'm enjoying the open world in concept, this is my biggest problem with it at the moment - it's just quite empty.

It's frustrating as this was done pretty well in the very first games in the series. Not only did Kanto have labyrinthine caves and forests, but it also had interesting man-made structures to explore in the Rocket bases, Pokemon Tower, Power Plant, etc. Sure, the region is relatively lacking in different biomes and topography, and many of these "dungeons" amount to little more than navigating around repetitive battles in a 2D space...but this was their first attempt, and on the Gameboy at that.

I feel the recent Pokemon games have given us a few basic paths, a mix of biomes, and thrown a bunch of Pokemon at us, and just called it a day. This was very apparent with the dull corridors of Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield, and while the Wild Area, Legends Arceus and now Scarlet/Violet have done a lot to open these areas up, they're still lacking in any real substance to make the areas explored memorable.

@Buizel This is definitely a personal reason on my end, but I find it fun to explore as someone who's avoided spoilers like the plague this time round since I have no idea whether the area I'm about to go to will have a new mon or not. It really adds a nice level of anticipation and thrill whenever you do find something completely unexpected like a brand new mon or even just a curious new area like the sealed off gates for instance. That's just my personal take though as someone who's very much biased towards this series XD
