Even the open world design itself, like it is just nothing really. It is tiny, with a huge amount of it cut off for the entirety of the campaign, there are basically no landmarks whatsoever and you could argue that the only thing that matters in these environments are the Pokemon as it is a Pokemon game, but wouldn't it be nice to have other things to do, see and interact with in the spaces between the questlines? Again, like this shouldn't be a big ask, all the money they have.
While I'm enjoying the open world in concept, this is my biggest problem with it at the moment - it's just quite empty.
It's frustrating as this was done pretty well in the very first games in the series. Not only did Kanto have labyrinthine caves and forests, but it also had interesting man-made structures to explore in the Rocket bases, Pokemon Tower, Power Plant, etc. Sure, the region is relatively lacking in different biomes and topography, and many of these "dungeons" amount to little more than navigating around repetitive battles in a 2D space...but this was their first attempt, and on the Gameboy at that.
I feel the recent Pokemon games have given us a few basic paths, a mix of biomes, and thrown a bunch of Pokemon at us, and just called it a day. This was very apparent with the dull corridors of Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield, and while the Wild Area, Legends Arceus and now Scarlet/Violet have done a lot to open these areas up, they're still lacking in any real substance to make the areas explored memorable.
@Buizel This is definitely a personal reason on my end, but I find it fun to explore as someone who's avoided spoilers like the plague this time round since I have no idea whether the area I'm about to go to will have a new mon or not. It really adds a nice level of anticipation and thrill whenever you do find something completely unexpected like a brand new mon or even just a curious new area like the sealed off gates for instance. That's just my personal take though as someone who's very much biased towards this series XD

@Fizza Fair, I don't completely hate the exploration in this game (I do think the open world is pretty neat). There are things that drive me to explore, just thus far I've been finding them to be a bit too few and far between.
That said, I'm not very far into the game at all, having mostly just explored the south-east quadrant of the map. My impression may change once I've seen a more complete picture of the game.
Along with Pokemon designs, I think character designs in this game are pretty excellent. All of the Team Star members are kinda weird, but are all really interesting in their own way. A special shoutout for me to Mela and how she walks in those boots of hers, and the awesome purple green ninja that is Atticus all the way to pro wrestler Eri. But even other characters, something always made me laugh about Nemona's goofy grin every time she was about to battle. Arven has the most beautiful hair I have ever seen. All of the teachers are so interesting too.
I think I went the wrong way. Went through the east gate and continued that way up until getting my 2nd gym badge (there was a difficulty spike but I succeeded) then went the west gate route and everything's way lower level.
You can tell they kept transfers from BDSP/Legends Arceus in mind regarding Pokemon choices as you can easily get the typical team used for the Gen 4 games (except the starters) very early on in the game.
