@Joeynator3000 it is first Pokémon game that changed and added so many mechanics ever in Main Line/Core Pokémon game, so it's really more interesting one the usual Main Line/Core Pokémon games.

I really hate the people who go "You can't spoil a pokemon game, because they're the same game every year!". It's just not true on a multitude of levels. Not to mention, saying this is acting like Gameplay spoilers don't exist, and ignoring the fact that new creature designs count as spoilers, unless they're revealed by the company that made them.

It just makes me sad, because these are the same people who go on to post the entire leaked roster of pokemon, and then claim that they did nothing wrong when people get mad, all because "you can't spoil pokemon!".

I once knew someone in a server I was in who made their pfp a picture of a leaked pokemon from Sword and Shield, and then told me "You don't know the context, so therefore it's not a spoiler!", when I knew the art style on the pfp, and knew it was a brand new pokemon.

Aside from new Pokemon, there's not much to spoil.

If there's something worth leaking, it's generally a spoiler.

I swear there's more paranoia and complaints about spoilers than actual spoilers.

I've found it too much effort to find out the spoilers myself, I'm lazy and want the spoilers delivered to me like milk or the post.

@DomGC I don't know about that, Pokémon has never been a series that has tried to please it's own fans or show much ambition for decades now. At the very least I can understand fans being disappointed with things but I still don't understand why Pokémon settles for mediocrity so often.

@DomGC As a long-term fan of Pokemon the current narrative around Pokemon bugs me quite a bit. Not because I think Game Freak should be immune to criticism...but it seems very clear to me that there's a hate bandwagon that was triggered largely by Dexit in 2019.

People treat Sword and Shield onwards like we've had these sudden abominations of games since the Switch's release. But personally I don't think SwSh were a massive dip in quality - in fact, I personally find Sun and Moon to be by far the weakest in the series, and would argue that many of the things people dislike about modern Pokemon started as early as Black and White. Yet Black and White is a franchise darling. People even go on to retroactively hate games. It's popular to hate X and Y now...but when they released, aside from criticisms about the post-game, they were universally enjoyed as far as I remember.

That said, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I think there are legit criticisms to be made. Personally I really don't like the leaked Hisuian forms (and kinda wish they'd retire the idea of regional variants) but it's not putting me off the game or anything. It's just kinda exhausting hearing so much negativity even if I'm kinda lukewarm on Legends Arceus myself.

@Buizel Nah, people have been moaning about Pokémon long before SwSh. Yearly editions, repetitive plots, Lets Go being casual/waggle rubbish, leaving plots dangling from XY because there's no Z, too easy, too much water etc.

@jump Well there have always been critics...but I see people around complaining about Breath of the Wild so I never felt that it was something particular about Pokemon.

These days it just seems that the franchise as a whole is under attack on the internet. It's the scale of criticism and the narrative around it more than anything.

@Buizel Well people have been moaning about Zelda before BOTW too.

There's just more internet now than there was yesteryear, people moaning about Pokemon isn't new nor is calling them Pokemon fans toxic. A quick look at googles shows forums and articles pre-SwSh talking about how Poke-fans are toxic;

Every generation wants to feel special by being the worse. Just look at Stars Wars, people were moaning about Return Of The Jedi, then again at the prequels and then at the Disney ones but rather than these fans are suddenly toxic they always were.

@jump Interesting to see these. I guess the longer it stretches out for the more tiresome it gets as well.

I really do hate the idea of lumping the whole fanbase together though. People need to understand that often fanbases have diverse opinions, and some people are more vocal than others...

That said, as a long-time Sonic fan I totally understand the complaints of that particular fanbase. I recently left the r/SonicTheHedgehog subreddit because I couldn't stand how fixated everyone seemed to be on Sonic's quills in the latest Frontiers trailer x_x

I haven't been following any of the news, or leaks all that much. I'm just really excited to get this game in hand next week. And I hope its everything people want out of it.

@DomGC The SwWh metagame sucked though. The tiers became much less diverse, dynamax was just flat out horrible and everything was way too slow now. I went back to battling on the 3DS pretty quickly and I normally spend years tinkering my teams and battling in Pokemon.
