Finally finished the post-game, i.e. defeated Arceus.
My thoughts on the post-game? Way too much of a grind, and it really wore me down after what was quite an enjoyable main story. I get that completing the Pokedex in any game involves a lot of grind... but to lock the final encounter behind the Pokedex was a bit much IMO. I found the legendaries in general to be quite tedious, and even after resorting to a guide getting the wisps for Spiritomb was tiresome. Generally I just feel like the fun of the main game (exploring new areas, discovering loads of new Pokemon, and gaining new ride Pokemon) was soured by the generally uninteresting and tedious post-game. Definitely not in a hurry to pick up this game again after all of that.
Overall impressions? This was a solid attempt by Game Freak at mixing up the formula, and they did great here, save for the tedium of the post-game and lack of signature features from the previous games. I'm not ready to give up on the typical main series formula, but I do look forward to seeing what Game Freak take from this in Gen 9.
@Snatcher The pain of trying to evolve my beloved Qwilfish will haunt me forever. I miraculously managed to avoid seeing Overqwil whilst also looking up the method so seeing it for the first time was a magical experience.
Also, thinking about it now, I also used a Runerigus when playing through Shield for the first time so I guess I'm just predisposed to annoying evolutions?

I've noticed something that, at least from what I've seen, I haven't seen anyone else talk about yet.
So, when you complete a Path of Solitude for a Pokemon from Ingo's Battles, you get a mark on your Pokedex page for that Pokemon indicating that you've completed it (as pictured below):
The fascinating thing about this is when you compare it to the Gym logo:
They look very similar, don't they? However, the one thing that was throwing me off were the spikes around the Solitude stamp that aren't present on the logo. Well, there just so happens to be a certain Gym Badge that bares that look: the Legend Badge from Opelucid City:
The last thing binding all of this together? The Gym logo as we know it today along with the Legend Badge were both introduced in Gen 5. The same Gen as Ingo.
(This is probably a massive reach but I love Gen 5 and seeing any love go towards it makes me insanely happy)

@Snatcher I think you're thinking of Sirfetch'd, Runerigus is much worse. To summarise, take 49HP or more as a Yamask without fainting, then head to a specific section of the Dusty Bowl in the Wild Area (nowhere else) and only then will it evolve. I love Runerigus but jesus christ that is madness.

So I have been grinding alpha pokemon more often than just regular pokemon and because of that I'm getting tons of exp. I'm still early in the game and wondering is there a penalty for leveling up so fast. I'm afraid to continue fighting alpha pokemon because of this.
To achieve something it takes more than practice it takes belief and confidence that you will succeed.
I was just doing some outbreaks in the Mirelands when, after they had all dissipated, a random shiny Petilil pops up out of nowhere! I don't even have it's dex entry perfected yet! I caught it and evolved it into a beautiful shiny Hisuian Lilligant named Keeka. What a great mon.
(now if only I could transfer this luck to the mons whose entries I have perfected cough cough Qwilfish cough cough Basculin)
