Finally got my first (random) shiny...and two in one sitting, at that! I imagine the shiny encounter rates are massively boosted in massive mass outbreaks.
They're Quilava and Magmar so I guess that's halfway to a team of shiny fire types...
Does anyone have any tips for that post-game battle? I've beaten Volo a few times but he manages to OHKO most of my Pokémon in the process by not giving me a chance to switch out when he sends something in (a rather frustrating consequence of this game's speed system), which makes fighting Giratina very difficult.
(I dunno what's wrong with the spoiler tags there)
@Eel Yeah I might have to do that. I did try bringing Dialga and Palkia but still lost. I was low on healing items though so I had to be conservative with them, it should be easier once I've crafted some more. As long as I actually get a chance to use them without all my Pokemon immediately being knocked out again.

@Dogorilla Five words, Catch yourself a big Goodra, ad use palk and dalg, after that use whatever pokemon you have trained up to this point, and buy a lot of revives, and if you can max.
Then go to where the battle starts, turn off auto saves, and just keep doing the battle till you get it.
Palk and Dalg are going to be used to quick shot the final mon, hard part being, they need two moves to kill him, so, when they die, throw goodra in, and wile I cant remember the move name, it will buff his def, and make him harder to hit.
When you finish doing that then you use the time to revive palk or dalg, and then give them a potion just in case there too slow.
Change this however you like, but my big tips are to get pokemon that can take at least two hits from him, and pokemon that effective attacks, (Goodra the MVP tho,) (Oh and BTW you have to fight the last mon twice, giving him 8 pokemon
Someone else will probably write a waaay better guide.
@Snatcher Thank you! I've now managed to get onto that final phase with Goodra on my team. Haven't managed to beat it yet (it really is difficult for a Pokemon game!) but I think I'll be able to do it.
Should I be trying to catch Giratina during the final phase, or do you have to defeat it first? I don't want to waste a turn chucking a ball at it to check.

I finally beat that battle by the skin of my teeth!
Now I can get on with more side quests and filling out the Pokedex. Completing the Pokedex seems like it will actually be a mostly fun task in this game, unlike in most of the other games where you have to trade for Pokemon you can't get otherwise and spend ages running through the grass looking for rare random encounters. Side quests are pretty fun in this too, I hope they'll be back in future games.

@Dogorilla If you want to try shiny hunting specific mons when you're done everything else (or put yourself through a newly developed form of torture), try perfecting a dex entry (getting all the research tasks for that mon done). It slashes the odds for finding a shiny of that Pokemon to a quarter of what it usually is. I wouldn't recommend even trying to go for it before getting Level 10 on each mon first though.

@Silly_G Just to be sure, when you say preserve, do you mean does the mass out break save when you leave, or when you turn of auto saves, save, and then leave?
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!
