I'm clearly not as patient as other people when it comes to catching. I usually sneak up at a safe distance (sometimes with stealth spray) and go straight for a Wing Ball or something. If I fail I either resort to a couple of rotten apricorns or a battle.
@Buizel I almost always find the nearest grass patch (or use a smoke bomb), throw an Oran Berry/whatever food I have on me at the time to lure the Pokemon away so it's back is turned, then chuck whatever ball would work the best so I get the back-strike bonus. It's so satisfying to do, especially when you're using it on a gigantic alpha like Rhyperior or Garchomp. There are other times as well where there's a big congregation of Pokemon (not necessarily an outbreak) that I just go 'F**** IT' and just chuck as many Ultra Balls as I can. One of them's gotta work, right?

@Wewalia That's very well rounded! Is your Rotom in any form besides Base? I would suggest Heat if you have the machine for Steel types since you have 2 Fairy types, one of which is quad weak.

@Grumblevolcano Maybe try and get to a ledge near it with Braviary/Sneasler and chuck Jet Balls from there? I haven't gone for it myself so I'm not entirely sure.

@Wewalia Keep speaking with Ginter in the village, he'll randomly let you buy a Mechanical (blank). If he doesn't have it, you'll need to do some work outside the village and come back to try and reset it. If you're looking for Heat, look out for a 'Mechanical Box'. You'll need to save up some money for it though; it starts at $20,000 and only goes up from there.

@Snatcher : We didn't have Alolan Solrock, Lunatone, Cresselia, Darkrai, or hula-skirt Jynx in Gen VII, nor have we had Galarian Aegislash, Shieldon or Bastiodon in Gen VIII.
Missed opportunities are a trademark of the franchise.
Porygon did nothing wrong.

Can't say I expected the 2 hardest Pokemon to obtain to be the franchise's 2 mascots (Pikachu and Eevee). Both Pokemon are very rare, outside of trainer battles I only saw Pikachu once and haven't seen Eevee yet.
I've seen Pikachu a handful of times, and run into Eevee (and its evolutions) several times in the distortions.
I'm just annoyed that I have only encountered Pichu once or twice early in the game (without catching it), but I haven't seen it again since, despite searching high and low for it (and even hearing its cry).
I'm still fairly early into the game though, and I'm putting it on hold while I try to complete Brilliant Diamond before the Manaphy event lapses. While I procured a Manaphy in Shining Pearl before the 1.1.2 update (and beyond), it would be nice to have a second with a different set of stats (and the possibility of it being shiny).

I was goofing around in a distortion, and when the noise that signals it’s about to end started to sound, I thought, wouldn’t it be funny if a shiny appeared right now? And then…
The distortion ended immediately after the battle.
