Man, this is incredibly disappointing. I've been playing Pokemon since Red and Blue, and these may be the first Pokemon games I haven't bought at launch (or before launch - being from the UK, I'd sometimes import from the USA before worldwide releases!)
Honestly the only redeeming factors for me are the expanded underground and the ability to play on my new Switch OLED. But Platinum still seems to be the definitive version of these games for me - so why don't I just replay that?
It's like they really don't understand what made Gen IV great for a lot of people.
I'd honestly prefer if they gave us a Let's Go game instead. At least that felt like a somewhat new take on Kanto...this just seems to be more of the same.
Any chance I can get some context here, after reading those spoiler tag bits.
Like was D/P legit not a good game, before Platinum made changes, or was it still a good game but just was bettered by Platinum and therefore people are disappointed that D/P doesn’t embrace those changes? Because if D/P is still a good game on it’s own, I’ll pick it up still but if vanilla D/P is simply no good, I guess I will give it a miss.
@thiz Ironically NSO vouchers are making the choice not to buy easier for me. I only had one left after Mario Party...and it's gone to SMT V. It's a bit more of a gamble as I've never played a mainline SMT, but the payoff is potentially much greater.
@Pizzamorg D/P were great games but also very flawed. Most people's issues involve the speed of the game (which personally doesn't bother me) and the poor selection of available Pokemon (which bothers me a lot - especially since Gen IV introduced a lot of Pokemon that weren't even available in the Sinnoh dex). Platinum improved vastly on both of these aspects, along with some other features, to the point that Platinum is largely considered the best "third" version (although there's strong argument for Emerald) and the original Diamond and Pearl are almost considered irrelevant these days because of it.
Honestly if you've not played DPPt these are probably worth a try. But as a Gen IV veteran these seem like a hard sell as many will probably still consider Platinum to be the definitive version of these games.
Do we know if things like speed/pace are going to be adjusted in these remakes or will it literally just be the same? I am starting to think I might give this a miss and just focus on SMT V, maybe see if Platinum gets a remake too. Especially as the next Pokémon game isn’t too far away.
Very, very strange decisions all around. I think it would be overkill (and unprecedented) to release a Platinum edition before the end of the 2021 financial year (as remakes usually have the third version's improvements built into them by default), but I wouldn't be against it either, because Platinum felt like such a distinct experience from Pearl in so many respects (despite the fact that 99% of the content is otherwise recycled), though many would be understandably irate with the fact that a vastly improved version would be released such a short time later.
Porygon did nothing wrong.

Yeah, I am new to all of this, so I wasn’t aware of this whole situation, it all seems really odd to me. If a vastly improved, definitive, edition of a game existed, why is that not the version that is being remade? Or at least, why are the fixes/changes/improvements it made not being brought into these remakes? Like if there isn’t a Platinum remake coming, I don’t really understand why these remakes exist. Is it just to catch people like me off guard who doesn’t know the history?
From what little I've seen, it seems the leaker hasn't bothered to visit the underground much, if at all. So let's not assume that fire types and all those extra pokemon options will be limited for the player just yet.
@thiz The originals did something similar... Seeing how this is meant to be "faitful" to Diamond and Pearl, then "completing" the Pokedex should actually only involve seeing every pokemon, mostly through trainer battles.
(in the originals, you can also "see" the other cover legendary, and Manaphy through books)
If only my copy of platinum still worked. I'm kinda stuck with BDSP, given that my copy of Gen 4 that I have won't read properly, and I don't do emulation since it feels wrong to me. This is the only method I have to play the game, and it's a shame that it's not going to be that great of an experience.

@thiz The room thing with Giratina hasn't actually been confirmed I'm fairly certain. A guy posing as the Chinese leaker said it was the case, but there's no photographic proof at the moment, so it's still up in the air. The person with the actual game hasn't even gotten to Giratina yet.

Yeah it’s a bit mean to ship the game incomplete, specially if it’s true the music in the cartridge is placeholder music. Then again if that’s true then they better do include better music.
Hopefully it’ll be just that and the usual day one stuff like fixes and online. Though I also wouldn't say no to even more content.
Wow a 4 to 8 gig day one patch? In the context of Switch game sizes, that is almost like a whole new game. Maybe there is hope yet for BDSP. Although if this has been thrown together in response to the leaks, they got this together very fast?
