Also, it's very ironic that I really want to get TTYD Switch version ASAP, but at the same time I will buy PS5 machine in June 2024 according to my plan so I have to wait for next month again to get TTYD Switch version.
@PikminMarioKirby I'm not a Metroid Prime fan so I admit I don't really know what the remake brings to the table.
A few metacritic reviews of TTYD dropped 8/10s for basically the seem reason of 'no new content'. Currently the overall metacritic is 90. For the year, it is 5th on metacritic currently — after final fantasy rebirth, animal well, balatro, and tekken 8. Interesting year that two of the top games are small indies.
@FishyS Yeah I'm not much of one either, but I know it probably deserves a high score. I believe remastered just had new controls and maybe some concept art (and new graphics).
The reviews are still coming in so it could go up/down. Yeah glad to see indies doing so well!
I knew they weren't gonna do it, but I was kinda hoping instead of merely getting rid of some of the backtracking, they would've just...made those sections good? It always feels like giving up when your only solution to fixing a boring part of the game is to let people skip it, thus making the game shorter.
Very nitpicking, especially since the game is still longer than SMRPG, but I do wish more remakes did that. I'm still glad people won't end up like me and turn half their time in chapter 4 into the most boring, pointless experience possible.
To be completely fair, resident evil 4 was a full blown cinematic modernized reimagining of the game, not a simple by the numbers remake. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this will be lacking in effort, but is not the same kind of remake.
It’s the kind of thing where both the original and the remake can pretty much stand on their own as separate experiences, instead of being the same experience but one looks nicer.
Wholeheartedly agree. A game I’d reference that’s been remade the same way as TTYD is definitely Persona 3 Reload, which got a new voice cast, redesigned characters and music, etc. Resident Evil 2-3-4 are remakes too but in the literal sense of the word, while TTYD and P3R have the same game buried underneath but with a few licks of paint to refresh it and make it better to play today.
Soo good. Started playing at 3am. Lots I don't remember. It was 20 years ago. Some I do. The whole 'only 30fps'? Sorry, I guess I do not have that fine an eye. I see no issues with it. I can't tell the difference. I am at Hooktail Castle now. Lots of moments make me laugh and smile. Even the stupid things like the Professor attaching a picture of himself at the bottom of the first e-mail he sends you. I don't know why that made me laugh. I like the additional voice work. 99 percent sure it is Kevin? I think he is doing a good job on this one. Anyway. Top purchase!
I've had some interesting developments in the last 24 hours. Remember those Walmart cancellation emails? Well, I received an email yesterday afternoon that my preorder shipped! Idk what the email communication was about last week then. /Shrug I'll still take the $25 coupon though. It should be in my hands later today.
What's funny is my Best Buy preorder is also now coming. It'll be in tomorrow. Ironically I don't think I'll be able to play until tomorrow anyway.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
@Tyranexx wait... they said it was cancelled but still charged you so now you are getting two copies but also had to pay twice?? That doesn't seem great.
@FishyS I made the BB preorder after that cancellation email last week. So yeah...two copies winging their way to me now. If both show, one is getting returned. Probably the Walmart one since they allow in-store returns, and the closest BB is about 90 minutes away. I don't deal with online returns unless I absolutely have to.

Beware potential spoiler (maybe?) below in second paragraph, but it's more a gameplay gripe ...
Been playing through the Gamecube version across the past few weeks, and am five crystal stars in. I haven't played through it before and I figured I wanted to beat this version first (that I paid $170AU for last year just ahead of Nintendo's announcement of a remake).
Anyway, the part after claiming the fifth crystal star where you must mix the potion as Princes Peach is a definite lowpoint of the game. It's ridiculous, tedious and annoying. Even using a stopwatch to time the '30 seconds' needed to heat the potion, I still fail. Time has told this game as a perfect entry but from my point of view, it's not. The second chapter with the Punis is also a drag.
Overall I am enjoying it though, but I'll finish the GC version I forked out for before I graduate to the shiny new one.
Edit: came back today and mixed the potion correctly first go. Amazing what happens when you give a game a little rest after quitting in frustration. The thing I was doing wrong seems so obvious today with a clearer head. But I still maintain this part of the game has sucked. Onwards and upwards.
