@FishyS Just out of curiosity, what Switch games do you give 10/10?
Yeah TTYD had time to sink in, however it is still above all other GameCube games on that list which is an amazing feat. I don't think critics fully appreciated TTYD at it's time (however 87 metacritic is still very high), however now it seems that both journalists and fans alike both hold this game in higher regards than ever.
Yes I think it's very likely it'll get a 9 or 10. I think that Nintendo/IS chose 30fps to avoid any major performance issues, so hopefully there won't be any problem with that.
@FishyS Just out of curiosity, what Switch games do you give 10/10?
Animal Crossing New Horizons, Mario Maker 2, and Mario Wonder. For me, the difference of 9 and 10 is often impact, both for myself personally and society-wide/the gaming industry. ACNH had both of those. The Mario Maker games as a unit clearly affected Nintendo itself since they discussed how it effected Wonder development. Those are also the only two games on Switch I've spent 100s of hours on. Mario Wonder I was really indecisive between 9/10 and 10/10 but I had realllly been looking forward to new mainline 2D Mario. I reserve the right to lower it to 9/10 during my second playthrough, but I'm really hoping we will get DLC which will cement it as 10/10. Although some of the art and animation decisions are phenomenal, still unclear if Wonder will have a real impact, but I had the most personal fun playing it as I had any game for ages.
@FishyS Mario Maker 2 is a great game, it's one of the first Switch titles I was looking forward to, and now it's a really good game to play from time to time.
Mario Wonder is really good. Hopefully at the June Direct we see some DLC. I think it's fine without DLC, but it would be nice to potentially fill a small gap in the year and generate more hype for the game. I'd love any new content (as I enjoyed playing through the game a LOT), whether it be a new character, new levels, mini-games, or something else.
For TTYD, I'll probably give it a 10/10 myself. The original is a 10/10 for me, the QoL stuff, and the new music/art galleries are all reasons why it'll likely be a 10/10 for me personally.
In my opinion I would just about give everyone a 10. I haven’t really found a bad game or one I didn’t like. Considering I actually haven’t had a switch all that long.

UPDATE: The Target store (US) seems to have completely run out of pre-order copies of TTYD.
Since the game is unavailable on Amazon US and will only be in-stores in Walmart US now (both cancelling preorders for the game), the options for getting the game in the US are lowering. If you’re considering getting this game, probably a good idea to get it before it potentially sells out at other places.
I'm surprised the game hasn't leaked yet. Maybe the whole Amazon/Walmart/Target thing is somewhat preventing it? I guess if there are any early copies, they're not landing in leaker's hands. This is a good thing, so more people play the game legally.
@Eel "Ha! I leaked the game early. Now it's time to play!" (5 days later) "I wonder how my leaked game is doing, since the game releases today!" checks computer "OH NO HOW DID I FORGET TO LEAK IT"
Reviews will most likely release tomorrow, and I for one...don't care too much. I'm just excited to play it! I know I'll enjoy it no matter how they review it, as I very much enjoyed the original.
@PikminMarioKirby tbh, the only really interesting part of reviews is to see if it will end up as a potential GotY nominee which itself doesn't really matter either.. but it's fun to see Nintendo win stuff 😝 Even if it is usually just best family game.
@FishyS I mean RE4 remake was a GOTY nominee last year, so why not TTYD? The GOTY choosers kind of are bias with certain-style games/towards PlayStation games, so I kind of doubt it. This year's selection is somewhat small though, from what we know so far.
I know it'll probably be a family nominee, but this isn't the kind of game that is exactly...a family game.
I usually don't care about Game Awards too much since there is some bias, and Nintendo usually doesn't have too many announcements there anyway.
To be completely fair, resident evil 4 was a full blown cinematic modernized reimagining of the game, not a simple by the numbers remake. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this will be lacking in effort, but is not the same kind of remake.
It’s the kind of thing where both the original and the remake can pretty much stand on their own as separate experiences, instead of being the same experience but one looks nicer.
@Fizza I can't believe it! Seems like almost all 9s and 10s, congrats to one of the best games of all time! Definitely underrated by the 9/10 people, in my opinion. But we all have different gaming tastes!
@Fizza@PikminMarioKirby Hah, so NL is the low score this time? It was pretty much 9/10 for my predicted reason of 'not enough new content'. NL tends to be a bit strict with remakes. I'm still salty about the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond review which basically read 'still an excellent game, newcomers will love it; 6/10 because as a remake it was bad even though as a game it was good'.
@Fizza
Eh, for me it's a 7/10.
Why 7 ?
Because I prefer other RPG games like FF VIII and FF IX with score 9/10 for FF VIII and 8/10 for FF IX.
Also, since I didn't grow up by a lot of Mario stuffs, the way I reacted with Mario games just very low hype. It was like a slow handclap reaction.
@FishyS Yeah NL is the strict one lol. There was tons of new stuff and QoL stuff, still baffles me Metroid Prime Remastered got a higher rating. Both should be 10/10 if anything! Their remake/remaster reviews are fairly inconsistent, from what we've seen. Depends on reviewer.
