I have all but 100 percented the game now with the exception of the last tattle log - WHACKABUMP.
All badges, star pieces, shines, recipes, Luigi logs....
Does anyone know how to get him to appear in the dungeon? I have done what I heard were the requirements. I have beaten the game, beaten pit of 100 trials and Bonetail, and Whacked Whackabump so many times he no longer appears. I am meant to get an e-mail now, but not yet got one. Not sure what else I have to do to trigger it.
Does anyone know? I have wondered around thinking it may just take a little time, but I have done everything there is otherwise do. Guess I can slowly try and level up some more in preperation. Just not sure if I am missing something.
@Mana_Knight have you tried maybe going back to the bottom just to check? (Assuming you beat bonetail before abusing poor old whacka and haven’t returned since)
It came through! Took about an hour of just playing around for the e-mail to arrive. Went to the dungeon and beat him. Lost once, but thankfully it lets you do it again without the need to do the 100 trial. Vivian is essential in this one.
I have now fully got 100 percent and clocked in 62 hours of playtime. What a game! Fun all the way. Sad it is over again though in part.
@Mana_Knight ah good to hear it did come in the end. I wonder what does the game use to determine when to deliver emails.
Congratulations! I didn’t have it in me to trigger this particular battle (can’t whack the whacka without feeling guilty), but I do kind of what to battle him 😅
@Eel Nobody seems to have a set answer beyond the 3 requirements! All I can guess is time. Haha. Fair enough, he is very cute. I don't like hitting him much either! But I really wanted to 100 percent the game. Mario RPG games tend to be reachable like that, which I like. So many games are too overwhelming or have impossible tasks for me!
@Mana_Knight Congrats on trying or already 100% I’ll say, I myself have been playing the game since July and I’ve already 100% sorta I’ve just been struggling with the recipes as I only have 12 so I’ve been looking up a guide ‘n such and just been all over the place trying to find the right ingredients it’s a mess I’ll tell you!

@TheNoobie Lol. Thank you. The recipies take a good portion of the game to complete. Lots of Cake Mixs and Jammin Jellys needed, neither of which come cheap or too easily obtained without a lot of money.
Honestly, like buying everything is fine to me, I’ve got the money for it it’s just the time it takes to get everything since I’ve only got 12 recipes done

Been only a day since I've gotten the game yesterday, but I'm on Ch.2 right now. So far enjoying it. But I'm not too fond of Goombella, compared to Goombario, I find her too much of sassy.
I sell my famous Chesapeake Tupperware.
I ACCEPT NO DEBIT CARDS!
DO YOU HEAR ME!?!
@DanijoEX-the-Pierrot She is the character partner I used the least. Get her in for the tattle log info and swap out soon as I could. Even at her strongest her head bonk attack is pretty weak. On the field she can give you extra info about an NPC, but I never found it that helpful.
@TheNoobie Lol I took hours out of the main quest to tackle the recipe quests. Just became an obsession to do that before I could carry on with the story. It does take a lot of time.
So I kept on playing. That was tedious at times, but with some good parts all the same. So (of course, this message is like a SPOILER for players who have not completed the chapter 6 or the 100-floor dungeon yet, even if I don't give too many details):
Chapter 4, well, the scenario is good, but the level-design is of a nameless platitude because you only cross straight lines, with backtracking. The mansion is pretty basic in its design, but it's still better than a straight line. Fortunately, compared to the Gamecube version, they've added a teleporter leading directly to the mansion, so you don't have to make a third round trip till the mansion. In short, the Boo mansion in Paper Mario Sticker Star on 3DS, and the chapter 3 of Paper Mario 64 are far superior.
Chapter 5 is a chore in its first half, with nothing else but backtracking (3 times!!!). Fortunately, the second half in the cavern is much better than I remember, with a little effort in its level-design, and its little climax is quite epic, I admit it. Still, I prefer the whole piracy chapter we had in the Wii U episode (Paper Mario Color Splash);
Chapter 6, unfortunately, is no good at all. First of all, you have to repeat the journey to the island and make your way to the entrance of the island's cave for the fourth time, and endure a hammering of the button to make one of the game's characters say “I love you” 100 times. Then there's the train part, which is a shame, because it had the potential to be a sort of parody of investigative adventure games, but it's a failure: there's just ONE puzzle (a completely obvious one), repeated twice, involving the use of a certain character at a given location.
As for the rest, it's pointless: you have to go back and forth on the train and talk to the characters until the investigation progresses. It's a pity, because just before, we have a little interlude with Princess Peach that showed what chapter 6 could have been like: you had to collect items, combine them in a certain way, even measure time to concoct a potion. That was fine, it was a nice short puzzle that required the player to think and concentrate a little, but nothing like that in Chapter 6: no dialogue choices, no items to collect, no Phoenix Wright-like “deduction show” to reveal the culprit, no real enigma.
What's more, the train station you have to explore is pointless (a straight line, on the whole). There's just one boss who's fun to face. But then, the ending gives me the feeling more than ever that this chapter has been rushed and botched: at the beginning, there's a nice idea for a dreamlike situation, at the entrance to the sanctuary, which has a secret passage, leading the player to believe that he's about to enter a real, slightly mystical dungeon, but it's not even that: it's just an empty room, with almost no enemies, no boss, and that's all, that's the end of the chapter.
In short, chapter 6 was a big waste, even though it had potential.
Then I really tackled the 100-floor dungeon (of which I'd already done the first 50 floors). First, I played till level 90 before turning back. Then, I confess, I had to go back and forth to the forest in chapter 4 to fight against the golden flowers giving maximum star points, until I reached 60 badge points (I already had 57 before), 50 heart points and 50 flower points: I can tell you that the boss on floor 100 was no match to me. He never put me in danger (I also had plenty of items left over to heal myself that I did not even use). With my badges, I increased Mario's attack twice (and my allies' attack twice), increased my defense twice, increased my attack by 1 in exchange for not being able to use the hammer, increased my attack by 1 and decreased my defense by 1 (for Mario and my companions), not forgetting the badges for being immune to spikes and flames. As a result, with my ultimate shoes, Mario was doing 7 points of damage per jump (so 14 points of damage in two jumps) and my companions were hurting a lot too (I was using the Goomba the whole time, with its multiple jumps, while Mario was doing his multiple jumps). In addition, against the boss on floor 100, I used several times the star power allowing me to increase my team's defense and attack by 3 or 4 points for two or three turns, so that one of Mario's jump could do up to 11 points of damage. In short, I can't tell you what a massacre it was for the poor boss (who never gave me more than 4 extra points of damage). That boss was gone in no time.
But it's still a very nice quest, this 100-floor dungeon, and I really enjoyed it. It was very good. You just had to be careful on the last 20 floors (use your skills and allies wisely).
Well, now I'm going to begin chapter 7 (the beginning of this chapter, with its backtracking, is a real pain, but then there is a good dungeon, as I recall), then the last one to complete the game (I don't think I'll be doing the other side quests because those are so lame).
@PikminMarioKirby
Yep, it is great. I love atmospheric chapters like this.
Nooooo! I doubt I will 100% this game. I can not bring myself to hit the Whacka. He belongs to an almost extinct species. If I hit him Goombella will be disappointed and the biggest reason why I can not hit him is, because I would feel like a monster. I mean he is just enjoying his lifeand the weather, smiling all the time and he is speaking to Mario in a friendly way. Why did they have to do this?
Here's a list of the time between all the Paper Mario games (based off of first release date listed on Wikipedia)
64 -> TTYD: 1441
TTYD -> SPM: 991
SPM -> SS: 2043
SS -> CS: 1426
CS -> TOK: 1379
TOK -> TTYD (Remake): 1406
Taking the average, the next Paper Mario game should statistically release May 2028. This also doesn't put into account that TTYD 2024 was a remake, so not sure if we should count this. I'd say it is pretty likely it took at least close to as much development time as a new entry would (although it did supposedly use some form of the TOK engine). I'd say Summer 2028 is a pretty good guess for the next Paper Mario.
I don't mind if TTYD took up a slot of a new Paper Mario release, I'd much prefer that to an Origami King 2/Sticker Star 4. Hopefully we do get a successor to 64/TTYD next (definitely take notes from Super Paper Mario and Origami King as well!)
