Bet you that like every announcement relating to the Switch on Youtube and Twitter has tons of comments like "stop spoiling the direct", "WHERE"S THE DIRECT" and "This was probaby gonna be on the direct".

I stopped looking at comments but I have a gut feeling.

@Cobalt Any credible source? And yes i'm a fan of platinum games.

@FaeKnight true but it would be pretty weird to say "the nintendo online service is lauching this week". It would have to be at least one week on beforehead which rules of the last week of september. and with tokyo game show on the 20th, the direct should be going live between now an tuesday the 18th if they made an agreement with famitsu. Otherwise we are going to have direct without suprises or a direct between now and wendsday.

troy258

FaeKnight

@troy258 Maybe, but nothing indicates that the Direct is going to feature anything to do with Nintendo Online Service. Nintendo has been rather tight lipped about any details on this, even ones they said they would be revealing.

@troy258 No !
Good that you're fan of Kamiya's team...

@FaeKnight It would make sense to talk about in a direct otherwise they would have already revealed all the details. I predict that they are going to announce the other nes games and a date for the online service.

troy258

NEStalgia

@FaeKnight The launch date for the service is supposed be in the next 3 weeks. Meaning sometime between now and 3 weeks from now every Switch owner that wants to play online needs to purchase something. And we still don't have the complete details....or the actual day that everyone's online games turn into pumpkins. That's not a situation that can persist.

I still haven't ruled out another delay.

@troy258 With regards to online, what exactly do you need to appear on a Direct?

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

@GrailUK list of nes games, launch date, cloud save clarification and info on the discounts would be nice but that would be too much to ask of Nintendo.

FaeKnight

@NEStalgia I agree with you. Things like "when will this go live" should already be known. The remaining 10 games could be justified as staying unrevealed till it goes live, but the date it'll go live is an important thing to know. I believe they said something about announcing that date via twitter, which means that counting on them talking about it on a Direct may be a fool's errand.

I suspect the Direct will focus more on Super Mario Party, but that's just me.

@FaeKnight The whole online launch is kind of a disaster in motion. Between the year and a half delays to witholding every small detail until the day it goes live (like how cloud saves work, which games won't support it....if there's any ability to play your digital games on more than one hardware unit now that your saves can go with you?) It seems like they really don't have any way to sell this thing other than just putting up a one page paywall for online play, randomly, at 6:00PM PST on a random tuesday saying "pay me." I mean they could be spinning it as a service you want rather than one you're being forced to buy...and they're not even trying. Worse they're pretending it's not happening until the day it does.

NEStalgia

FaeKnight

@NEStalgia that's my biggest complaint about this. I mean the price for one year and the NES games already sold me on it. The online multiplayer isn't a huge deal to me, but still would be something I might take advantage of now and then. But the more they hem and haw, the more interest I lose in it. What are the other 10 games? I mean, sure the 10 already announced (okay only 6 of them) convinced me I'll probably want to subscribe. But if the other 10 are games I know are really bad, maybe I don't want to subscribe.

And the longer they withhold information like "When is this going to launch", the more likely it is I'll find something else to spend the money on.

@-Green- Not every one at least, mostly just the ones that launched on Thursday, but the Crystal Chronicles Remaster has been getting it a lot.

I have no doubt that the recent Direct was supposed to have a portion on the online service, very likely with a release date. However, I do have many doubts that they would have had much to show for it. The service has remained pretty much the same since the day it was revealed back in the January 2017 Switch presentation. If anything, the details that we have been given have only made it worse (cloud saves not working for some games).

I'm sorry, but I don't see them going all out with amazing details that will make the service so much more worthwhile at the last moment. If Nintendo had anything amazing regarding this service they would have shown it in the over a year and a half they have had to do so. Instead all we're getting is "You have to pay for our online now. Lol. But don't worry, we'll throw in these NES titles that you have already had a billion opportunities to play over the last 15 years. This is totally not a rip-off. We promise!"

@Harmonie The worst part is that the concept of the online service has some really good parts--they're just executed in the worst way possible. Voice Chat? Sounds great, but you're stuck with the terrible app. Cloud saves? Would be a lifesaver for a portable console like Switch, but sorry, not compatible with every game--including the ones that need it most like Splatoon 2 and Dark Souls.

I actually like the concept of a subscription-based service for classic games, but limiting it to NES games kills any excitement it might have had. Just adding a few Super Nintendo games to the lineup would have given it a little more interest, but nope, let's just get hyped for playing Ice Climbers online like we've always wanted sarcasm.

Until we get the final news dump about the service including full lineup of features, games, etc., I'm going to try and stay hopeful for some redeeming news about this to come out. But in the meantime, things aren't looking good.

Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.

yeah so far this expected direct is shaping up to have mostly everything 3rd party related already announced, im just hanging on to some big 1st party game announcement like animal crossing

IceClimbers

@link3710 Which is dumb because the Crystal Chronicles Remaster was definitely not a Direct announcement. It was announced in a Sony related TGS show. That had to have been finalized a while ago lol

@IceClimbers Oh agreed lol, I highly doubt that was in the direct. The Smash Switch bundle on the other hand was almost certainly supposed to be part of the Direct, but at least that's just a hardware bundle (albeit one with cool Joy-cons and dock).

Maybe they wanted both events to have their own Final Fantasy (something) HD to show off.

The direct's would've been FFXV.
