@BenAV I was tempted to put that too, but then again, digital release wouldn't really make the potential buyers thin that much despite my distaste for digital so I wasn't sure if lazy was the reason because it is not as if they are trying to hide the laziness.
What the heck! The negativity in here is going through the roof... Meanwhile i had a smile from ear to ear the whole time i was watching it and I am just bummed that I cannot yet pre-order it in my country
@Reynoblade LOL I was thinking they'd bank on this 35th anniversary by announcing LE Super Mario Switch/Lite editions bundled with the game. If I didn't already have a Switch and a Lite it'd be a no-brainer for me, much less for those who haven't jumped on board the Switch ship yet.
@Balta666 Most of us have already been sold most of these games multiple times already. Even though I'll get the 3D all-stars bundle, this was the absolute least amount of effort Nintendo could've put into this. While I know it's foolish, I was expecting a bit more than that given there's nothing else going on from Nintendo. Not even a hint of a proper new Mario game of any kind.
Pretty much this. Not to mention, as of tomorrow, it will have been 1 full year since the last general Nintendo Direct (no I do not include Minis or Nindies, sorry). Whilst Covid is a factor, it is annoying seeing most other video game companies managing to continue with plans whilst Nintendo seems to be floundering. Perhaps they have things in development which are pretty much ready, perhaps they have somethings that are mid-way through development and have been interrupted due to Covid, perhaps they are saving it for this supposed Switch Pro (I hope not) or perhaps they have nothing at all in the works. The problem is; we don't know. Nintendo's silence is maddening, and they have only released 3 new games this year (Animal Crossing New Horizon, Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics, Paper Mario: The Origami King). Every other release is a port.
I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo markets Mario Kart Live as their main holiday game, as it's just the kind of thing that will appeal to families but will probably be too expensive for kids to buy for themselves. Obviously I'd be happy for there to be another first-party game before the end of the year but I won't get my hopes up.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
I'll try nabbing Super Mario 3D All-Stars just for the chance to play Sunshine, which I've never played, and to replay Galaxy (hopefully it doesn't require split Joy-Con, as mine are drifting). Too bad it's a limited release however, and too bad they didn't spruce up 64.
I'm happy for the 3D World port, as I didn't have a Wii U, and the Bowser's Fury mode looks intriguing.
My guess is that they eventually announce New Pokemon Snap as the November/December title. It doesn't seem like the sort of thing that'll take a long time to develop, and I don't think it has a release window yet (could be wrong, though).
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@MS7000 bear in mind a proper Direct (although I today's as One) should still come this month or Next and also another title for the holiday season (if it is new or port it is another conversation)
@RR529 I genuinely think they just won't have an all-new retail title save the Mario Kart thing (if you count that, I think it's download only and just the toys are retail?) between Oragami King and sometime Q2/Q3 2021. New Pokemon Snap I'd wager is still a ways out from what we've seen. I hope they don't rush it out just to fill the gap.
Just imagine if Nintendo tried have Galaxy 2 as a $20 DLC in the future. A DLC for a limited game...that would be hilarious
(I mean, there's no way they don't throw Galaxy 2 in there sometime in the future, it was the highest rated game of the decade and held that spot for 10 years)
@Giancarlothomaz I just saw that on Twitter! That turned my day around big time! That's all I wanted out of a 3D World port. So that's huge, I'm definitely getting it now.
And if the motion controls really are optional, that turns around my opinion of the Galaxy port too. Sunshine's looking okay too (never really had issues with that), though the underbaked 64 port and missing Galaxy 2 still hurt.
@link3710 I wouldn't get too excited about the online in 3D World until we see how it runs though. Super Mario Maker 2 is basically unplayable a lot of the time so hopefully they can manage a lot better than that at least.
As for this holiday season, my prediction is that there isn't a retail release. If there is, it'll be either New Pokemon Snap or the rumored Skyward Sword HD.
I think we'll get a Sakurai livestream that reveals the next Smash fighter later this month, with a release the first week of October.
Then we'll get a Partner Showcase the last week of this month that showcases more 3rd party titles for November/December, with another one in late October to reveal stuff for early 2021. I think that will be the last one, at least for this year.
Throw in the Crown Tundra DLC in November and some Animal Crossing updates and that'll do it for this year.
