I really can't see any possible future where we don't get Odyssey 2. It's the best selling 3D Mario game by far, they can reuse the same engine and plenty of the same assets, and the capture mechanic has so much more potential for further use.
Maybe they'll just decide to do something else, but it seems irrational to me. Odyssey 2 seems the obvious next move.
I always thought the Mario 35th announcement was always the logical place to reveal what was coming after Odyssey, so hopefully we'll hear something soon. I'm not convinced ot has to be a dated game, they could do a BOTW2 style trailer?
@Dezzy I feel like if an Odyssey sequel was coming next year would be the absolute latest time we could get it.
My general theory was that they'd release both the next Mario and Zelda exactly 4 years after the previous. So Breath of the Wild 2 would be April 2021 and Odyssey 2 would be October or November 2021 (possibly launching alongside the Switch Pro)
I'm going to make a bold prediction. If a Switch revision happens next year and it is more powerful than the base Switch then DOOM Eternal won't be playable on the base Switch (only the more powerful model).
It seems very suspicious that back in early July, the release date would be announced pretty soon yet here we are 2 partner showcases later and nearly 2 months later with absolute silence on the Switch front. Meanwhile lots of new details come out about the DLC for other platforms and upgrades for PS5/Series X.
@TheFrenchiestFry Odyssey 2 also likely is reusing minimal assets. Given a huge part of the appeal is the vastly unique kingdoms, we'll likely see entirely new assets for nearly everything save a handful of returning enemies and allies.
Reusing assets can mean anything from reusing entire fully-crafted locations, like a game like Bravely Second did.
Or it could mean just reusing 75% of the base textures in the game, but using them to create completely new levels, like a game like Galaxy 2 probably did.
If it's the second, I guarantee most people would never even notice.
How come it seems like NL never posted about the games announced for Switch at the Future Games Show? I don't think they have too much actual news on their hands at the moment..
@Apportal The rumours always sound nice, since it wouldn't make sense to make up something people wouldn't care about. We shall see which ones actually turn out to be true.
@jump They indeed posted about some, which makes it even stranger they didn't post about all of them. I guess they never even watched the event themselves.
@Apportal I missed out on both the N64 and GameCube; I never owned or had easy access to either console. I've had to rely on the Virtual Console and various rereleases. XD There was the occasional demo kiosk in some stores, but that's never quite the same. That's the only way I ever was able to touch the Pokemon Stadium games. It definitely helped pass the time at Walmart while my mom was shopping.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet - The Indigo Disk, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
One thing seems very clear, Nintendo will need to announce the Island transfer service before they announce any new hardware. People aren't going to care about a new Switch model if they have to start from scratch in Animal Crossing.
Hmm actually now that you mention that. I wonder why Splatoon 2 still doesn’t have the option to transfer data across systems yet. It’s one of the switch’s most popular games and even Animal Crossing is getting this option.
There's no way Nintendo will announce new hardware this year if it only comes out the next. Nintendo sells a lot of systems during the Holidays, they're not going to temper that by announcing a new system which won't come out 'till half 2021. I believe it's coming, but they won't announce it until March 2021 or something like that.
Oh, and we're definitely getting a general Direct next week. Yes, definitely! 🥺 Pretty please, Nintendo?
@Dezzy Nintendo can include all the 3D Mario games for the 3D Mario Collection to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the franchise incluiding Super Mario Galaxy 2, but the question is how they gonna adapt the pointer controls of Super Mario Galaxy 1 e 2, specially in Handheld Mode and for Switch Lite players? the others 3D Mario games will be easy to adapt, but how they gonna adapt specially Super Mario Galaxy 2 that use the pointer controls for the Yoshi mechanics in this game?
@Grumblevolcano problaby Nintendo will anounce the Transfer Island feature around the Holiday season, to help drive sales to Switch and Animal Crossing New Horizons, around novembre/decembre this feature might be added.
@-Green- You don't lose your Splatoon 2 save if you transfer your user though. Animal Crossing is the only game that you can't transfer your save data from one system to another that way.
I am very doubtful for a 3D-mario compilation, but I would absolutely love it. I just think it sounds too good to be true, but also I mean when has Nintendo ever been so generous? I just hope they enchance the games and not just emulate them, that's what I fear the most.
I hope we'll get a direct around Marios anniversary. At the very least we should know before the end of september what Nintendos big holiday title(s) is, hopefully through a direct and not a twitter announcement.
