Topic: Next Nintendo Direct?

@FragRed I agree with this. There's enough left that they can show off, and it'll give us a lineup through the year. I think this might be were we get Prime 2 and 3? I'm not really sure since there wasn't a Gamecube shadow drop, even if we got the TTYD remake. I fully expect the February one more thing to be the announcement of the Switch 2 Direct with a tease of it.

@ElRoberico I don’t think Nintendo will make any hints or anything about the Switch 2 reveal until the day or two before it happens, unless they do another conference like the January 2017 one for the Switch.

As for Prime 2 & 3, it is weird they haven’t shadow dropped one or both yet which makes me wonder if they are wanting a lengthy gap between them.

I think the next general Direct will be after the new system has been revealed but I could see other events like an Indie World (November/December 2023), a Peach Direct (February 2024) and Pokemon Presents (usual around Pokemon Day in February 2024) happen before the new system's revealed.

@FragRed I get the feeling if Prime 2+3 is anywhere near it'll be at the Game Awards, I brought it up in the Prime 4 thread but the general idea is that Nintendo may have made a deal with Geoff Keighley back in 2018 to properly reveal Prime 4 at the Game Awards. December's empty for 1st party outside of the Chill Season 2023 content going live on December 1st so there you go, you could have:

  • Prime 2+3 HD (Game Awards 2023 shadow drop with physical release in early 2024)
  • Prime 4 (proper reveal of the game at Game Awards 2023 with a release window or date)

But this theory only works if Prime 4 is a Switch only title.

@Grumblevolcano Regarding Prime 4 at the Game Awards, they could if they really wanted to not show gameplay if it’s also coming to the Switch 2. I don’t know what they’d show but that’s what I would do unless they show Switch 1 gameplay at the event and then the Switch 2 gameplay at the console reveal.

@FragRed There's probably a bigger difference in power between Switch and Switch 2 than there was between Wii U and Switch though. BotW Wii U and BotW Switch docked pretty much look the same (a similar argument can be made regarding GCN, Wii and how TP looked on both systems outside of the mirror mode effect used to make Link right handed on Wii) but that wouldn't be the case if Prime 4 was crossgen Switch/Switch 2.

But yeah there aren't much options regarding Game Awards reveals. Aonuma already confirmed no TotK DLC so a 2017 style trick of releasing DLC alongside Zelda winning GotY isn't happening, all the 1st party upcoming games with release dates or windows after SMB Wonder except the Peach game are remasters/remakes, 3rd party exclusives seems quiet as everyone prepares for Switch 2.

Gives me the impression that if not Prime then "Nintendo Switch has Games" but even back when they did the latter, there were 3rd parties present like Bravely Default II.

@FragRed @Grumblevolcano, i highy doubt Nintendo wil show Metroid Prime 4 at TGA 2023, Nintendo never use this event for major anouncement(Nintendo Direct is when we could see Metroid Prime 4, never in a event everyone is fighting for attention, Metroid Prime 4 would be lost, if any of the companies, imagine if Rockstar for example anounce GTA 6 at the event, everyone will be nuts, Metroid Prime 4 will be lost)

@Giancarlothomaz Nintendo have used TGA before for announcements. Bayonetta 3 was originally announced at the awards show as well as BOTW DLC. They haven’t done anything in the past several years but with new hardware on the horizon it maybe a good idea to start doing more reveal trailers at TGA.

@Grumblevolcano Yeah that’s definitely true. The Switch 2/Switch NG or whatever it’s going to be called, is the first time a cross console game would launch on something significantly more powerful than its predecessor system. That’s why I was trying to rack my head around how such a re-reveal would work if you haven’t announced the new console.

Nintendo games aren’t traditionally thought of as gamer’s game which make up most of TGA however stuff like Zelda and Bayonetta very much do feel like gamer’s games which is why they were shown. And a game like Metroid Prime 4 does fit the gamer’s game description so I can see them plopping it in there if they want it to.

@jump Wouldn’t surprise me if a teaser CG trailer for something like Astral Chain 2 is shown too. Can see that being an early Switch 2 game as Platinum are certainly working on something for Nintendo and I doubt it’s going to be anything Bayonetta related yet.

@FragRed this anouncement at TGA was a expection, Nintendo needed to show Switch would be a better console, by making this such anouncement, Nintendo rarely make bombshell anouncement at TGA(expect this such anouncement on a Nintendo Direct)

Well, the last Direct wasn't very good (lots of remakes and ports) but I don't blame them much. I mean, all eggs are in the basket (Fire emblem Engage, Zelda Tears, Pikmin 4 all out, Mario Wonder almost out). That and the Switch probably almost at its end. New Peach game looks very nice and Another code collection might be worth it (I haven't played the first one). But I only buy if there's a retail-version.

I have still a huge backlog and games on my wishlist. I just barely started Pikmin 4 after playing months and months Zelda. I am set for the coming months.

Is anyone expecting a Switch 2 announcement after the sudden delisting of the Switch announcement trailer?

dionysos283

FragRed

@dionysos283 Yes but until very early next year. The timing of the removal may well be due to licensing agreements to some degree but I’d also imagine because of the fact a new console is launching next year, removing the Switch announcement video will help prevent confusion from anyone searching for the Switch 2 reveal.

@FragRed
Makes sense. But why remove the video now and then wait until next year to announce the new Switch?

dionysos283

Grumblevolcano

@dionysos283 Don't think it would happen until April/May. Announcing this year would cripple Switch holiday sales meanwhile announcing before April would cripple Princess Peach Showtime sales.

The delisting is most likely due to music licensing.

If they say from the start the currently announced games ( Peach, thousand year door) will run equally well on both consoles, I doubt it would have too much effect on sales. One way or another, there will be games after the announcement but before the new hardware is sold. That said, I am 50/50 on a hardware announcement in Feb/Mar versus summer. Clearly not this year though.

@FishyS Get Christmas out of the way and all bets are off. There is a good reason why we won't see an announcement in 2023 (protect holiday console and game sales) but from January? IMO there is no strong logic for any time frame between 1st January and the 30th June.

If it's releasing in time for Christmas 2024 then surely October is the latest we could possible see a launch? And if you assume a minimum of a 4 month window (which may not be enough for a full marketing campaign) then an E3 announcement must be the absolute latest we could see an announcement?

MarioBrickLayer

Grumblevolcano

@FishyS TTYD and LM2 are old games meanwhile Princess Peach Showtime is a new game. Nintendo seems to value new games a lot more than old games so that's why Princess Peach Showtime would be the key game to look at regarding timings.
