It does have a lot more than what the original had, that's for sure. Each location has variants (night/day) or additional levels like the watery location. As you increase the area's level the Pokemon scenes change as well, adding in more new stuff and all that...

And apparently there's a chance that it may get some DLC or free content updates at some point...? I dunno about that, but...it could happen. DLC seems more likely.

@Joeynator3000 regarding the requests, some of their harder ones seem to be you have to level up before you can complete them. I’ve not figured out the friend one either, I kept throwing apples at Meganiums head but it makes no difference.
I kind of wish this game had a demo, because I just keep going back and forth on it. One hand, it looks nice and I heard there's a lot to do, but on the other hand it's 60 dollars and it's mainly a game about taking photos.. which I'm not entirely sure if it appeals to me.

I mean, you'd probably won't like it, then...it's basically a slow/short on-rails "shooter" (like, the levels themselves don't last long, just a few minutes). The Pokemon scenes are usually the same with alternatives when you level up the area, the scenes also change slightly depending on how you interact with the Pokemon. The areas are crammed with secrets and changes/additions happen as you level up them up, and they also have day/night variations as well. (well, some of them anyways, lol)
It's not a game for everyone, but yeah, it's all about taking pictures.

...Ugh, a lot of these challenges are just driving me crazy now....it's getting really annoying too. You think you have the answer, and...nope...The Jungle at night is what I'm stuck on...A lot of the stuff I seriously don't get what I'm supposed to do.

@Joeynator3000 Have you tried throwing an apple at the Pokemon's head?
They aren't easy but I'm slowly figuring them, I find focusing on just one and just keep scanning so you can see all the players just before getting to the spot helps.
Honestly don't get the review bombing...I thought that was generally reserved for more controversial games, or those of the highest profile. What has New Pokemon Snap done to upset people in this instance?
@timleon "Too expensive", "looks like a cheap mobile game", "just the same game as the original", are some opinions I've read. Might also be some backlash remaining from the Sword and Shield "controversy".
@timleon it seems to be people don’t like Pokemon in general now, it doesn’t have all the pokes and folk don’t like it’s not an open wold game/free roaming game.
Having the entire Pokédex would be insane (I could do with some extra pokes though) and I’d rather it be on rails. If it’s free romancing/open world it then becomes too hard to engineer cool looking moments and events to take a pics of.
@Quarth Yeah I've also seen complaints that it "doesn't contain all the Pokemon" (really? get your expectations in check) and that it isn't open-world / on the same scale as something like BotW (a fundamental misunderstanding of what Pokemon Snap is IMO).
It could well be some remaining backlash from Pokemon Sword/Shield...but it's all misplaced IMO. What do people think they'll achieve with review bombing?

TBH I think I'd find it quite boring if it were open world - it would make what's already quite a sslow game even slower, and it would feel a lot less "game"y, if that makes sense. Part of the fun is not only how the on-rails aspect provides you with a unique, standalone run each time, but the challenge it brings in trying to snap photos before you move on to the next area.
@timleon "What do people think they'll achieve with review bombing?"
I don't know. Sometimes I can kinda understand it, when a game is not what's been advertised, as Fallout 76 or Cyberpunk. But most of the time, it feels like entitlement. No one's forcing people to buy this game. I get that some people don't like it and gives it a lower score, but a 0/10? Seems kinda silly and trollish to me.
I might be biased, as I loved the original so much as a kid, but I see this game as an improvement and at the same time a celebration of the first game. For me, it's worth the asking price.
@timleon a lot of it is to do with open world being the latest buzz word where people think the best games must be open world now. Before the likes of Witcher and BOTW they were talking about how Pokemon must be a MMORPG when the likes of WarCraft was massive.
Not to say Snap and Pokemon in general should not make advancements or pinch a few things from other games as it should but I don’t think the way to do so is by hopping onto the latest trend.
