From what I've read of the negative reviews, most lambast its $60 price tag. Other highlights include,
0/10: "I respect the tastes of others, but I prefer an RPG with a world to explore, real NPCs, and a complex combat system, and 10 times more creatures." 29/30 found helpful
0/10: "I expected at least an open world to adapt to the most successful and current trends. But it's a game that got stuck in the past." 36/38 found helpful
0/10: "The game isn't the 'Breath of the Wild' of the snap saga...the only thing that the player can see and photograph is only what the developer wants you see." 59/69 found helpful
0/10: "That not all the pokémon are there takes away a lot of immersion" 50/62 found helpful
0/10: "an empty-shell game like FF XIII" 13/13 found helpful
0/10: "There should have been a free playable human in a open and vast overworld, tracking pokémon, camouflaging and waiting patiently in a spot to take a shot. They were also too lazy to create all the pokemon." 8/8 found helpful
0/10: "Taking photos in this game is very poorly implemented." 7/7 found helpful
0/10: "The story is unnecessary" 5/5 found helpful
0/10: "The story and the plot behind the characters is irregular, which I wanted to replicate from the original game, it does so with better graphics but without the charm or complexity that characterized it before.
That is why Colosseum or Pokémon XD have such good graphics for their time. But in terms of RPG adventure they are far, FAR below the main saga developed by Game Freak." 1/1 found helpful
Unlike Balan Wonderworld's review "bombing" though, there were only 2 repeat reviews I found

@AnnoyingFrenzy The people thinking this was going to be open world, or thinking that all games have to be open world.. just baffle me. Just because BotW was open world, doesn't mean every switch game will be. Some games do well with more linear structures, especially story-driven adventure games, or puzzle games like Snap. I get that some people might not like the game, but that doesn't mean the game's of any less quality..
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
This is truly the age of your game being terrible if it's not open world. The only game allowed to not be open world is Hearthstone because that's why. Everything else must at least have some sort of crafting system requiring 15 skunk pelts (er... Stunky pelts... is that too dark? lol) and some towers to climb or something like that. 10/10 on IGN.
I'm not even a fan of open world, part of the reason why that Arceus Legends game doesn't interest me at all. Yeah it's kinda annoying that all of these games are going that route...
Also, this, lol
The most I've done is got Pikachu near it, nothing else happens though.
Like I said, plenty of moments where I think I solved the challenge, but...nope. Like the most recent one is where Wingull does a loop. I took a pic of it doing just that....nope, game doesn't count it. >.<
I think a lot of people must drastically underestimate how difficult it would be to make a polished open world Pokemon Snap game. It'd take a really talented studio, lots of money and lots of time. Nothing wrong with the series sticking with its rail shooter origins. Unlike open world games, it's a type of game we don't see too many of these days so it's a nice change of pace.
goes through another level, takes plenty of decent pics thinking a lot of challenges will be done, doesn't get a single one
....This game is going to drive me insane. These are all easy challenges too, but apparently not...? I don't get it. >_>

Ready to move on to something else now after finding all the Pokemon and maxing out research on every stage but I got a good 32 hours out of it which is more than I was expecting going in. Had a good time with it.
@jump Didn't get to play too much on Saturday as I was busy with other things but aside from that, mostly. Haven't played anything else since I started it on Friday night.

So much of this. I've been playing for almost 10 hours now, and I'm still struggling to achieve some of the challenges from the first stage...despite feeling like I've already solved them. I refuse to look at a guide until I've finished the main story or feel like I've seen enough of the game to avoid spoiling it.
And, although I like the star system in concept, I often find that the rankings aren't very intuitive. Sometimes I'll get what is seemingly a very uninteresting pose and it gets 3/4 stars - and other times I'll discover what I feel is a new pose and it gets me only 1 or 2 stars!
I wonder if things felt like this when I first played the original 20 years ago. I only really remember knowing most of the solutions. I guess that's an interesting thing about this kind of game - first run through is always going to be brain-racking. But then there's still fun in running through the game when you know how to do things - if only to see how quickly or skillfully you can achieve it (which is part of the fun of replaying the original to this day).
Yeah, I've only been playing the first stage (I haven't even unlocked the second one yet), and some of these challenges are starting to get to me. I don't know how many pictures of a flying taillow I've taken only for it not to count.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
I came close to throwing my Switch at the wall. Despite taking countless pics of Wingul doing loop to loops I finally gave a pic taken the exact precise way that the game considers valid that cleared the challenge. However all of a sudden the game froze before the auto save so I called it a count, put it in sleep mode and had a cig but when I came back it had unfroze itself. Thank fudge!

Just beat the main story a few hours ago, and I'll say this, that Illumina Steelix was probably the most annoying thing to get a photo of
Favorite Switch games:
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Super Mario Odyssey
Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Friend code: SW-4428-8318-9398
These challenges have proper ruined the game for me now. I'm hoping there will be an update so they are less ridiculously fussy or at the very least show a pic clears a challenge when selecting them before submission to the professor.
....Or give us better hints...or, something. Like, Meganium's lost friend? I threw everything I had at that stupid big tree and a bunch of bees and an owl came out? That's not enough friends for him? wtf? >.<
