It's done! My 400 hr MH Generations save has successfully been transferred to Switch! Obviously I did the converting to JP region and importing into MHXX 3DS beforehand. This is SOOOOO awesome!
@Tsurii
Um, updating shouldn't mess up homebrew, as long as your LUMA is updated.
But ya, just use JKSM to export the EXTdata for MH Gen, then use a tool that converts it to JP, import it into MHXX and then transfer to Switch with the app. Had your save already been converted to JP, the rest could have been done without homebrew.
edit
If you backed up your NAND, you can also restore the NAND. I'm assuming you have A9LH or Bootstrap, both of which are unremovable. No update can get rid of either hack. Unless yours was old from back in the Rx Tools days...
I'm kicking myself for selling my Japanese 3ds now so I could transfer my progress. I still have the game I don't think its useful though with the Western 3ds.
Here's a vid for buying the game directly... maybe check it out. Otherwise just follow the steps I posted before. Sign up for a Tenso account for not only a JP address but directions on how to enter it on Amazon JP
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
6 add your new Japanese address from Tenso to your Amazon JP address book- Tenso provides a guide for entering addresses at specific JP retailers... check your "My Page" (be sure to set site to English via button up top if you haven't done so already) and you will see a link on the right "How To Enter Your Tenso Address". Follow the link and use the Amazon JP sample layout for adding info into your Amazon JP address book
7 buy JP eShop credit via digital delivery- when you check out it will warn you that your country is set to the wrong region and it will ask you if you would like to set it to Japan- do that and then check out. You'll need your JP address during checkout, even if it's digital delivery. When you complete your purchase it should open a separate tab with your eShop code JP eShop Credit
I want to play it not sure I can handle starting over again for a third time. I'd rather do that though than jump through hoops with hacking my switch.

Not for billing, no. For that, need to put whatever address is tied to your credit card. When they charge your credit/debit card if the address does not match the one on file it will not be approved
