@Snaplocket All true, unfortunately! I'm not even that critical of Capcom - I think they're a great house with some amazing and varied games in their history, from Street Fighter II and Devil May Cry to Ghost Trick and Monster Hunter. However, they are also just a bit flaky. I take every announcement with a pinch of salt - not because I think they're lying, I just don't think they know what they're going to do next.
Despite all that, I still expect the Switch to see some form of MH in the West. It might not be XX, and almost certainly won't be World - but there will be something.
Successfully used the MHGen to MHX Save Transfer Tool to convert my save file from Monster Hunter Generations to a JP save file for MHX. I was then able to start a new game in MHXX, and import that save file.
I figured 400 hrs of armor, weapons, items and progress shouldn't be discarded if at all possible. I was prepared to start a new game, nd indeed had, and actually cleared every single 1 star quest and half the 2 star quests, but you know what? Better to jump in with all these items and equipment. It's that much less I have to worry about for translation... better to already be a well equipped hunter who can just jump right into the thick of it come August when MHXX releases on Switch. Can always replay older quests, but at least I don't have to.
In fact, I'm only just now wrapping up low rank in the 5 star quests. I hadn't even started high rank yet! 400 hrs all in low rank. Wow. So I've got the majority of the game- wrap up 5 star quests, and then all of high rank and all of G Rank to play on Switch. And that's the best part cause the gathering quests have a much higher density in low rank. So all future quests will be monster-packed. Fantastic!
August 25th. The day the game arrives in the mail I'm transferring my save and jumping into high rank quests. I'll finish up low rank on 3DS so I can start fresh with high rank on Switch. Things couldn't have gone any better for this game! Given it's a JP release....

Y'all are being illogical (the posts before today). Capcom's not being flakey for not releasing XX Switch for the west yet — XX was first announced for 3DS in Japan. They've never said it was coming elsewhere, we're just aware of it because we're the core audience.
Anyway @JaxonH, I didn't know you had an imported 3DS. I think for me the XX demo is enough to play this year and until World. It has Barroth, Barioth, and everything!
@Haru17
Sounds like an awesome demo. I plan to sink at least 600 hrs into MHXX before World though. The game is just jam packed with content, so many monsters and so many quests... and I don't think I'll ever get sick of hunting in HD, at work, even online with others via phone hotspot... prop that baby up in tabletop, disconnect the joycons and play some proper console Monster Hunter... even when I'm not home. I can't wait!
I actually don't have a JP 3DS... it's just that mine is region free. Never came in handy until now though. It's facilitating the transferring of my Gen save data to MHXX for Switch. And really, that's the ideal situation. Be able to play 100 hrs on Switch before even thinking about crafting a new armor set, which means no dealing with translating for a good while. But eventually when the time comes to upgrade, it'll be a simple save transfer to 3DS version with English patch, where I can quickly take note of the items needed, then go ham for another 100 hrs on Switch. This is gonna work 😃

@JaxonH Did you get a production model or something? I thought there weren't any region free 3DS'. To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed that XX's UI still uses the giant 3DS assets with the hunter arts, health bar, and everything crowing the screen. Even if you can turn some of the stuff off, the health should be waaaaay smaller, lol.
I guess it's a shame I'll never fight Valfalk unless he comes out in English (I would probably be more inclined to finally grind through 3U's G rank in singleplayer and fight Dire Miralis). But honestly, none of the ultimate versions have had the flagships in the demo. That was only the case with Gore Magala in 4U IIRC, and he was only the flagship because the intro video and cover from 4 were kept because the original 4 never released in the west.
That reminds me, have you seen the 4U opening? The Japanese one, not the one that we saw? It's quite well directed, and is honestly up there for best MH opening ever.
@Haru17
Funny you mention it, but I saw it just the other day as I was showing my coworker the series. Realized it wasn't the usual opening cinematic.
I simply installed custom firmware on my 3DS, that's how it's region free. I buy practically every game released and got sick of buying them another time just to have digitally on my 2nd 3DS. So now I just transfer every game I buy physically (or digitally) to both the XL and faceplates model and have my entire library with me digitally, regardless of which 3DS I happen to use or take with me. And the unique benefit of some 100+ SNES and GBA VC games installed that Nintendo never sold us, including fan translations (like Fire Emblem 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 12). And was now able to use it to convert my Gen save data to JP save data, which was then imported into XX and can now transfer to Switch. So ya, tons of benefits. Thank goodness Switch is region free though, or it would've been a moot point.
Idk, I didn't notice anything seem out of the ordinary on the screen though. I did read Capcom state they redesigned the Arts and stuff for Switch single screen layout though, so I imagine there's options. But after playing the last 1,000 hrs of MH on 3DS, every video I've seen of MHXX on Switch seems like bountiful, endless screen real estate in comparison.

@JaxonH I really like how intense and blow-for-blow that fight in the opening goes. It conveys really well not just the mechanics, but also the emotion of playing Monster Hunter. And it's a lot better looking than the first opening for 4, with some great shots and lighting. I'm was honestly way more let down about the 'Monster Hunter comes to the real world' movie after I watched this.
Looking at the Switch UI again it's not too bad, I just can't help comparing it to the World HUD. The big pixels just look old compared to the new UI elements, and I like how they changed the sharpness meter to show when you're on the verge of dipping into a duller color and especially how health and stamina shrink to just a circle on the screen while out of combat. Those changes could have been applied to the Switch game relatively easily, but I guess Nintendo players will have to wait for their own taste of fifth gen.
About these screenshots, I expect that all of the button prompts in the upper right are controls for the demo. The World HUD did seem pretty crowded when the little portrait of the guild lady popped up. It's just the hunter art meters and target cam seem highly unnecessary to be on-screen given that they can be discerned other ways. You better be able to turn them off.
@Haru17
Ya, no big deal to me. I don't sharpen til I need to anyways, so seeing it's exact percent won't really make a difference I don't think. I actually think I might miss the strategy of not knowing exactly when it will change color. Changes like that I haven't warmed up to yet, though I'm not 100% sure I'm against it. One of those things I'll have to try and see how I like it.
But ya, it's classic MH, will all the more modern changes from 4U onwards... so I have no complaints. Cause I really really like the classic MH experience (aside from gathering taking so long- that's the one change I know I'm definitely on board with- thankfully it's still far quicker and easier than previous generations, and with save transfer my gathering days in MHXX are basically behind me anyways). It's also the perfect game for a system like Switch. I swear if Capcom localizes MHXX I'll never complain about them again the rest of the generation. It's all I want or care about from a 3rd party perspective. 1st party is on lockdown, and the only other game I truly need is this. Just glad this game will be so playable in JP, and with save transfer now can jump right into hunting. Cannot express how truly thankful I am for that.

@Tsurii
Well, I'm in HR5 actually which is still low rank. But online play is definitely a factor. HR6 online, which is high rank (I remember hitting the key quests to advance far enough to make a HR armor set I wanted).
But ya, surprised me too. I thought I was farther along, but apparently not.

Yes. Tons of weapons, few good armor sets but only one High Rank set, but it's good. Tons of decorations and items. I like to get all the best stuff, it's an addiction.
@Haru17
Ya, I've basically got all of high rank and G rank to experience on Switch for the first time. Spool excited

So, I've been doing some prep work for the invevitable transfer from English to Japanese on Switch, and a number of things came to mind that should be prepared for in advance (if possible) or at least addressed right away by anyone importing.
1 Item Sets
Item sets will prove invaluable for easy loadouts in Japanese. I have the distinct benefit of making all my item sets in the English translated version but not everyone will have that option. Nonetheless you only have to make the items at once and then simply load it every time.
2 Hot/Cold Drinks
Bring both, every time. It's easy to see what type of quest you're on by the color but I'm not so sure about discerning what location it'll be, or whether it's day or night. Solution? Bring both. Every time. At least in high rank anyways. Low rank will provide supplies in the box.
3 Selling Parts
I was planning to transfer my save back to 3DS in English any time I needed funds replenished, but that doesn't really help those who won't have that option. So, I suggest selling anything you have more than 15 of. And never dip below that line. That way you'll always have enough for crafting, and if it's not enough you won't be far off.
I'm sure there's more tips and tricks that could be used. Maybe others will add some ideas to the list.

Can we all agree that this was blown way out of proportion. All they said was we have no plans at this time and the internet (including myself) exploded into why not or you suck and I hate you. Maybe, just maybe, they wanted to save it for another announcement down the road.
