This game looks incredible. Get over the 'not my Monster Hunter' reactionaryism so you can enjoy it. The return of underwater, the progression of the mounting system, some crazy new grappling hook to traverse the world. This open world looks dense, and the new monsters look as unique and weird as Monster Hunter Tri's did when I was first playing through it on Wii. There's even a great tree like the one back in the Sandy Plains that we never got to explore or fight inside / on top of.
Even if my mains, long sword and switch axe, don't return, I will happily pick a new weapon to go crazy with. Admittedly Monster Hunter: World is a blow to Nintendo, with Sony literally paying Capcom not to put games on Switch, but it's clear that we have several Monster Hunter games coming to Switch. Some of which will probably appeal to Japanese fans more and maybe even incorporate the advancements from World.
@CrazedCavalier Eh, just put some Monster Hunter monsters and gear in Breath Of the Wild and we'll call it even, Capcom .
I've voiced some concerns before, but I never believed the game couldn't be good. The main difference, or sticking point to some, seems to be an emphasis on using the environment to your advantage rather than proficiency with your weapon. Probably the best way to to mend open-world and combat together. Still much too early to say much, especially regarding how forging and such works.
While I am sad it isn't on Switch, Monster Hunter is saved from that ps2 era graphical engine at long last. It has really been holding the series back imho...especially in the west. Hope it becomes even just half as popular as it is in Japan.
When I first saw the reveal, I kept thinking is this MH? Then I saw the hunter use some magic stardust or dung possibly. But I kept thinking nah it isn't MH. Then I saw the hunter's sword when a regular looking dinosaur showed up, and was like nah it can't be. Then the hunter kept carving dead animals but then he camouflaged himself. So it couldn't be.
Finally Rathalos shows up and it hit me, oh snap it's MH.
Hyped at first, but now not as much. I just hope for a XX reveal tomorrow.
Well, I don't know how true this is, but I heard that big consoles like a ps4 and the ps4 experience is not that popular in japan like it is in the United States. Perhaps Capcom wanted to make a monster hunter that specifically targets the west or just release it here first since they may have predicted higher sales here and plan to localize it for Japan later.
Did a bit of searching around. About 4.5 million ps4s in japan sold.
Wait what? Spider-Man looks dope. I get the not liking MH, that's legit, but Spider-Man looked incredible! Maybe not as good as Arkham games, but it's pretty close. It's Insomniac. They make great games.

Are ya kidding me? You people complain about QTEs, but say that Spiderman thing looks better than Monster Hunter!? What hypocrisy! That thing was full minutes of QTEs and Monster Hunter: World didn't feature a one!
For the record I'm excited for both games by the way, but obviously MonHan looked way, way more ambitious and fluid.
@Tsurii
Ah... gotchya. Ya it was a decent showing.
Skyrim VR (too cool)
Spider-Man
Detroit Beyond Human
Shadow of the Colossus Remastered
God of War
And I suppose MHW could be counted as a wildcard. Probably will be decent but nothing nearly as good as the main series. Idk, jury's still out on that one.
MS had way more games but... aside from Ori (which is an absolute must own) nothing stood out much.
Nintendo... who knows what they're gonna show. Xenoblade and Fire Emblem and (real) Monster Hunter would be a blowout as far as Im concerned.
