@FattyWhale_42 They make it look so easy..... I'll have to try an equipment upgrade. After so long a session, my hands were tired and I just got sloppy. Too many boomerang throws with little damage and if I closed in, and when for the big barrel roll kick thing I'd get clobbered.
It seems to be even more frantic to play than hunters, which makes sense for cats....but still....
@NEStalgia Like most things Monster Hunter, it takes time to learn everything. But the important thing is finding what works for you. If it's not Prowler, then just keep looking until something clicks.
The big reason I recommend Protect Prowler early in the game (besides the aforementioned reasons) is, the more experience you get with the Adept Block, the better it will serve you later on in the game. ^_^
@FattyWhale_42 well, cats aren't as bad as i thought. I tried lagombi with my best hh and he just would not die either.... What an obnoxious dmg sponge. GL next... Of not that, nothing. I had him limping finally but he just sat on me too many times
I have a question about deviant armor. Do I just keep upgrading it to its G rank version? Will the hidden skills for that armor set unlock at that point?

@NEStalgia Well, if you ever want to see top Prowler skill in action, just say so... or, I could play too, I suppose.
@zionich All Deviant gear starts at the bottom and upgrades from there. And I believe the first set of skills unlocks at level 10, and the final set at level 15 (for the old ones, of course, since the new ones start at G rank).
Ok, I'm really loving Aerial GL! I hadn't really played outside Guild style at first, but World is going to feel very very boring without Aerial style now. Nothing like being a shield-wall tank that can fly. Only catch is upgrades are sparse and expensive on GLs.
That said, freaking Lagombi is still utterly destroying me. Not as annoying as Maccao still...but depressing either way. My HH is my "strongest" weapon for now (lv 3 bone) and I can get him to limp. I can survive better with GL and get him to limp for a long time. I even spent my maccao parts to get it to lv2. I do love both weapons (why are these the two most unpopular weapons aside from cats? They're awesome!)
I'm still trying to figure out the upgrade trees and ammo on HBG as well for player 2 (I have such little knowledge of the bowguns.) At times I think I should have suggested bow, but I hate the aiming of that thing.
@FattyWhale_42 LOL! I want to love the cats, I think I understand them better...but...I get really impatient and play sloppy as it pushes past the 30m mark
@Tsurii I'm playing 2 player coop, however player 2 is a complete MH novice who's never touched the series beyond the MHW demo and the MH4U demo on 3DS. And I'm a really sucky veteran. So it counts more or less as trying to solo for now, but technically isn't. I'm doing most of the damage and trying to occupy the monster most of the time, but there is someone else applying at least some damage and distracting him at times.
The broken coop is the reason I switched from World to MHGU, after all, otherwise I'd be doing the World campaign right about now
Though I am curious how much more dmg/hp the guild monsters have versus their village counterparts.
@Tsurii It also guarantees the maximum amount possible with the combine. So if it's 2-3 per combine, it'll always be 3 each time.
I'll probably try it again. I usually try more things when I'm just helping other people, but lately I've been more concerned with just surviving (EX quests). xD
I really hate Maccao, but I also hate Lagombi...possibly even more than Maccao. I almost gave up on the game after those unending lagombi runs going absolutely nowhere, I even got player 2 an armor set and nice HBG and it still just fell apart over and over. Can't get him worth squat. Tried my HH, tried my GL...got nowhere.
Finally I switched to Tetsucabra and got him in one go..... Why is the giant rock beast easier that a freaking bunny rabbit?!
That rabbit is dynamite!
On the other hand, Tetsucabra looks like he leads to a pretty darned nice GL set (120 base, shot Lv 2, normal, unfortunately, but with aerial style I can make that work...sorta. I'll miss my wide and wish for a long still.) I might have to farm him a bit. Then Mr. Bunny will get his.
@NEStalgia
You have to learn your weapon inside and out, and you have to know EXACTLY how many hits you can get in before you need to dodge roll out of the way. The name of the game is not getting hit. So you absolutely must know your combo, and at least somewhat know the monster's moves, and hit, hit, dodge roll out of the way, sheath, run to reposition, wait for opening after right attack.... run in and hit, hit, dodge roll out of the way, sheath, run to reposition, wait for opening after right attack...
Try adept. It can help you dodge attacks. Just be mindful that after you dodge in attack you will charge in a given direction (which can be changed by pushing analog wherever you want to aim the charge) and if the monster is going to follow up with a quick second attack you want to aim your charging run away from the monster so that you don't run right into the attack.
edit
I second the Tetsucabra armor, it's the go to starter armor of the game. Use your downloaded armor spheres to upgrade each piece a few times as well. And get a green sharpness weapon.
