@ReaderRagfish Yeah Tetsucabra might be the thing to farm for a while. Getting him in one go is encouraging.

@JaxonH The weapons, thankfully, aren't exactly Tekken levels of complicated, so I have a pretty good handle on most of the weapons after 5 years or so of noodling with all of them on and off. The monster's moves though, I'm terrible at learning them, they always fake me out. The darned bunny sits on me all too often. And just when I learn to stay to the side he does the slide attack. Still, I think this time around I'm settling on HH and GL with maybe heavy emphasis on GL. For the moment, aerial style, not so much for the mounting as much as for the forward hop and the more reliable triple poke without the slam - slam being tied to the leap and a "safe" full burst.

How does adept help dodge attacks? I thought adept was all about playing chicken and waiting to block/dodge at just the exact moment?

@Tsurii Right now the weapons I'm stuck with are LV2 Bone Horn (or is it Lv3 now?) and Lv...is it 2 or 3? I think 2.... Rogue Gunlance. There's a tiny shred of green on one of them, I get like 3 pokes and a shot before it depletes. Sharpening every burst would run out of whetstones before getting the monster to limp I've run through every possibility, that's the best I can get right now, though there's a few monsters I haven't beaten so their sets haven't been open to me. Tetsucabra just became available (that's a nice looking GL), and I don't have Gypceros, Ludroth, Lagombi, Kut-Ku or one or two of the dromes available as I haven't taken one out yet and harvested their parts, unlocking them in the armory.

@NEStalgia
Adept has an extremely generous window for evasion. Dodge roll as the attack hits, and as long as you're within a stone's throw of accuracy you'll do a crazy corkscrew style evasion move and perform a follow up running charge

Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions

They will look on Me whom they pierced

RIght im a curous newbie for this game, im downloading the demo as we speak.
Ive recently been playing the following games, Diablo 3 switch, Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4) and im about to get into Skyrim but this has also caught my eye.

Will I get a good idea of the game from the Switch Demo?

@JaxonH Me trying to time dodges:
Untitled

@ReaderRagfish Interesting. Though for HH is that as important as the song arrangement? I can convert it into a bulldrome horn, but the song list is stamina rather than dmg boost. For the GL yeah that makes sense.

@Tsurii That makes sense. (Also one thing I HATE about classic MH is the area exits. Especially when monsters insist on backing into the transition area to fight....

@Fowlersrs MH isn't a game. It's a way of life. Yeah the demos tend to suck. I mean they give you a feel for what the game kind of is like....sort of. But without actually stepping you through the myriad of systems (some of them obtuse) and the experience it takes to ease you into gathering, crafting, small monsters etc before throwing you in against a Rathian or something. MH is basically endless boss battles that take half an hour or more to take down.

That said, I've a few times called it the "Japanese Diablo"....the loot grind/town/sell/grind/town/craft/sell loop is actually kind of Diablo like. Except instead of dungeon crawls and trashing mobs you take down one crazy powerful enemy for half an hour. And Zero Dawn does the whole "take down giant dinosaurs" thing though that's a fast action game and MH is...well it's fast and slow at the same time. Attacking is slow, running away is never fast enough.

It's definitely worth a try, just keep in mind it's more complicated than Diablo and Horizon. Maybe not more complicated than Elder Scrolls depending on how you play. But harder. I think you'll probably like it - but you may or may not like it from the demo because it'll throw you in with no real understanding. It's a game you have to spend time learning. I've been playing since 2013 (MH3U on WiiU) and still greatly suck!

Mixed opinions so far...

I'm enjoying it as it's something new and it really does feel like a hunt moving about the map..

However the way it's laid out is really confusing, I think I need to watch some videos on what's what. I couldn't even kill the easiest one without fainting yet I had no idea which bar was the monsters health or mine lol

@Fowlersrs
You can't see the monsters health.
There are some tutorial quest you can do to get started (those are super boring though, walls of text) or you can watch ProJared videos for new players in MH Generations ( the first one in 3DS, same basics).

Later on you'll want to watch GaijinHunter, starting with his weapons tutorials for MHGU ( just start with a weapon you like, watch, try it and repeat until you get your favorite). After that you're good to go.

GaijinHunter has a lot of Information in his channel about the in and outs of every MH, pretty much anything from MHX, MH Generations, MHXX and MHGU are relevant for GU ( maybe with the exception of charm farming).

@Tsurii I have been working on her here and there but will be happy to start again. I probably won't get a solid block of grind time until Tuesday. Pulling doubles at work.

Dreadqueen is crazy with that poison, oh my gosh. That purple poison is like G rank poison, and the red poison? Oh man... it'll kill you before you even pull out a herbal medicine.

Idk if Anti Poison skill works but, I'd definitely look into making a set just for her.

@JaxonH It does for at least the lower level attacks but I just made a new set for my gunner and I dont have a good poison talisman I would want to use. I'll tough it out for now. I'll drop my crit eye 2 if I have to.

The red posion is probably going to make me.

@zionich If you're playing solo (or with 2 online) be sure your palico has a Detox Horn. They're usually pretty smart, and use it almost immediately after you get poisoned.

@zionich No problem. ^_^

@Tsurii Sounds good. I just discovered that you can indeed cancel out of the "power reload" after performing an Adept Dodge (I'm sure you already knew this)... so despite over a thousand hunts with the LBG — and the fact it's been possible since Gen — I'm only now learning that my biggest issue with Adept LBG, was self-inflicted from ignorance... now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go bash my head against a wall for a little while. xD

@Tsurii After an Adept Dodge, you can hit X and do a "power run," either before, or after you reload. My issue was always dodging out of the way of fast monsters, and as I casually reloaded my Bowgun, the monster (like Tigrex) would already have turned around and run me over before I could finish my reload. So this changes everything for me. xD

@FattyWhale_42 That power dash is useful. Some of those second attacks come a bit to quick. Which is why I have started to like the shield on my HBG. Auto blocker roars and stuns from the Gypceros and such.
