@DomGC I would say that it does, in fact the solar beam example is kind of the perfect representation of a telegraphed attack.
I get what you say about your point though. Although I think they did a great job with keeping a resemblance between the real time action of the main entries and the turn based combat on this one. Monsters work better with telegraphed moves on real time action since you are still limited by reaction time but turn based combat isn't.
I am so in love with this game! Battles are insanely fun! I can’t believe we’re actually playing a MH Stories 2 on Switch. I remember when the first released and bombed. I thought for sure that was it. We’ll never see another.
I like the mix of variability in the damage output. It’s still skill based and highly correlated to monster tells, but there is that degree of random variation at play, which keeps the game from feeling boring and too predictable. At the end of the day, your level is the biggest factor at play, like any other RPG. Higher level = higher damage. But there is also skill involved via deciphering tells, and a smidge of RNG involved as enemies aren’t 100% locked into certain attack types- it’s just a high probability. It feels like the perfect mix.
Having put 450 hours into Monster Hunter Rise and completed every quest, I’m ready to jump into Stories 2 now. Perfect timing, really. Glad to see a lot of others like the game and see how improved it is over the first.
@Snaplocket
I also have the Ys IX: Monstrum Nox Special Edition preordered, and while I like Trails a bit more than Ys, I do love them both. And of course Neo: TWEWY is awesome too. Cant knock either of those games cause they’re both day one for me.
@JaxonH My only problem with the demo is that I enjoyed it so much that I already did everything that could be done and now I have trouble enjoying other games until it arrives haha. I have a big backlog with stuff like Doom Eternal and Bloodstained and I'm constantly thinking about Stories 2.
Oh please, please, let Kushala Daora be in the base game. I suffered waiting for him on the 3DS version only to end up disappointed since that free dlc wasn't localized, only in the mobile version.
@JaxonH You know what I thought the same thing, TBH When I was getting to world And saw this game, I thought it looked ok, played the demo.......I had to get I had to get it after that.
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

I know the feeling. When the MH Rise demo dropped, I struggled to play Mario 3D World, Persona 5 Strikers and Bravely Default 2, all of which had just released. And those were three incredibly good games, but I just couldn’t take my mind off MH Rise.
This game is so good, I feel all this joy bundled up side my chest I need to let out somehow! The nostalgia for Moga Village is real. MH3U was my first MH game, and Moga Village holds a special place in my memories. The wooden pier over water, the fish market, huts… and this game reminds me of it so much.
I want to play Mario Golf, Tony Hawk and Neo: TWEWY but it seems the same thing is happening as with MH Rise. Three other incredible games that will struggle to get playtime because of Monster Hunter.
I can’t recall if Kushala is in the game, but all the monsters have leaked, so if you’re interested in finding out, that information is available on the Internet.
@Snatcher
At least the demo lets you get a taste in the meantime.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Thanks, but I haven't played it at all yet, so those explanations mean nothing. I just meant in terms of time or how much of the world can you access in the demo.
I'm confused about something. Does this game have a local co-op setting? I feel like I'm getting mixed messages here like is it for some missions only or is there an actual mode that you can play with a friend? If its the latter then I'm all for it but which is it?
"as I roll along I begin to find.. things aren't always just what they seem.."
Also with the attack names were a bit less, generic? Super Slash G and Sword Slash B don't cut it for me.
The fact that you don't really command your monster, and that you have a bunch of party members you don't have any control over is another big letdown for me. This isn't the Pokemon game I'm looking for.
@Snaplocket you actually have damn near full control of your monstie now.
They don't use any attack type besides the one "assigned" to them and you can pick their skills if you don't like what they want to do on their own.
The only truly random element during fights seems to be what the partner and their monstie does in Stories 2.
Edit: also, grinding is heavily cut down with the new feature to defeat low leveled monsters right away.
This is not true actually. There were many times my monstie did not use their type of attack. On average I would say they do it 9 out of 10 times though.
Just finished the demo last night and oh my goodness, I need this game lol. I hope they fix the framerate for the full game though. As others mentioned before it does get a bit annoying.
