Never played MHS1 nor other Monster Hunter (except the Rise demo, which I didn't like), but i tried the demo for this one because of the video NL put on youtube anD WOW I REALLY LOVE IT. I wish I had $60 in had to purchase it on day of release but I will have to save for this one.
Btw, I have a doubt do any one of you know how to set markers on your maps for the side quests. I mean I got the criteria to complete some, but I'm kinda lost of where specifically to go to end it, I only see the marker for the main story quest.
@hyperballad Glad that you enjoyed it, I hope that you manage to save fast for it. About ending side quests, you just have to go to the board. You can also go and search for the person that gave the quest.
@hyperballad Ya dude the demos are not good for newcomers at all, it will make you hate the game as it will give you stuff or wont that you would need in a real hunt, Like eating, or good armor, or weapons.
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

I'm the exception then haha, I fell in love with Monster Hunter 4 U demo and since then I got interested in the franchise. We just... Clicked. The only reason I'm not playing Rise yet is because I know that they don't last that long without a good Capcom discount. Right now I have way too many games in my backlog and I already pre-ordered Stories 2 and Metroid Dread.
The nostalgia for Moga Village is real. MH3U was my first MH game, and Moga Village holds a special place in my memories. The wooden pier over water, the fish market, huts… and this game reminds me of it so much.
@Northwind Nice! Yeah, the first one was amazing too so I would have liked that more people tried it. I know that mobile gaming isn't for everyone, but they did a great job with that version from what I've heard and since gameplay is turned based it shouldn't affect it that much. It also received all of the content, which is a huge plus because the 3DS version lacked some content with more monsters. You might want to check that out eventually, although I would prioritize getting this one first.
I did finally get around to the Demo trial and it's looks fantastic. I am now in process playing the demo and trying to figure how to get the new monsters onto my party list. If anyone knows please mention it here.
I’d like to remind everyone before MH Stories 2 releases next Friday, that despite the amiibo selling out at GameStop instantly, you can import all 3 from Japan for around the same cost it would have been from GameStop.
Also, the Monster Hunter Creator’s Models for Fatalis and the Palamute/Cohoot are both up for preorder on Amazon Japan. Look how massive Fatalis is compared to normal creator’s models, such as the Rathalos beside it.
@JaxonH I can hardly wait haha. Everytime that I think that I have outgrown being inpatient for something like when I was younger, something is released and proves me wrong. I'm dying to continue Stories 2 already and discuss it with you guys (being careful with spoilers of course).
Wow. Fatalis creator’s model already sold out. Glad I got mine.

I’m 37, and pre-release hype is one of my favorite aspects of gaming. We might outwardly contain our excitement now, but there’s nothing wrong with anxiously waiting for something you love 😁

The one thing that worries me about this game is that people are already using it to bash pokemon, and boasting about it being a "pokemon killer". I wish people would just let this series stand on it's own legs, without being compared to pokemon. I don't want it to be known as "the game that was better than pokemon", because it'll forever live in the shadows of that series. It should be known as "A unique monster collecting game with good gameplay, and a good story".
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@Snaplocket It actually wasn't made due to the success of pokemon. That's like saying games like Yokai Watch were made due to the success of pokemon. You do realize that the creature collecting genera is a thing right? Pokemon wasn't even the first monster collecting game. That goes to SMT or Dragon Quest.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
Without Pokémon fans buying in, this game has no hope of success. By and large, core MH fans are mostly disinterested.
And I've seen few claiming it's a "Pokémon killer". That's not how most view it. Most view it as a really cool game that will likely appeal to fans of Pokémon.
Living in the shadow of another series isn't such a bad thing anyways. Nearly everything is living in the shadow of something else, on some level. If it's not Pokémon then it'll be the main MH series. Point is, who cares. Has no bearing on the enjoyment we get from the game. And at the end of the day, the more people make comparisons to Pokémon the more attention it will get, attention it desperately needs. Anything to draw people in. Once they play it, they'll see for themselves how unique it is. But they've gotten be convinced to play it first and foremost.

@JaxonH I'm just upset about it being compared to pokemon, since that's how so many series I loved ended up dying in the end. Fossil Fighters was a pretty unique monster collector, and people never gave it a chance, dismissing it as a "Pokemon clone made for babies". The series struggled for 3 entries, then died when they made it about cars, alienating the small fanbase that loved the games.
These comparisons serve to destroy what the game has going for it, or serve people to just use it to destroy another series, instead of building itself up. Temtem was a game that most of the pokemon audience clung towards, boasting it as a pokemon killer, and then it pretty much lost all of those people soon after launch.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@Snaplocket You really don't get fossil fighters if you've never played it. It's nothing like pokemon. Heck, Fossil Fighters even technically invented the Triple Rotation battles before Pokemon used them. The only real similarity is "evil team" and "Scientist", but even then, these things are executed way differently from how pokemon would handle them. They're not graphically the best, but if you can manage to track down copies of the first two games, then you'll see how they're more different from pokemon than it seems.
Frontier is the game most don't talk about, since it isn't good at all, and isn't even made by the same devs as the original two.
Also, people really shouldn't compare SMT or Digimon to Pokemon either, since none of those series are anything alike in the slightest.
