It'll be all on the cart. Guarantee any day one update will be nonessential data like JP voices or something like that.

But it doesn't really matter anyways. There's gonna be so much content added via updates with new monsters, then the Ultimate DLC expansion.

@JustMe @JaxonH Thanks, both. Good food for thought, and I now know to skip the bow (I've played it a handful of times in past games and liked it. Opted for HBG which has its own problems, though. But I liked both ranged weps in general. I suck, overall, at MH though, so sounds like that's not the route to go. May try it anyway.

I still can't quite figure out the wirebug moves, and mostly just avoid it except for grappling up rocks for navigation so far. I couldn't even activate the wirebug move in the tutorial on wirebug moves and just grabbed one off the ground! I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually, maybe....

Interesting GL isn't considered slow....it's my old fav, maybe I should stick with it. But also interesting about HH. I actually loved it in 4HU and played it fairly often....one of the 3 or 4 weps I worked on upgrading, so hearing it's mega buffed now is interesting. After you said that I started another mizu fight with it....it's not bad. I'm not sure the buffs are helping all that much at least with the demo horn. But the dmg numbers were certainly way better than the SnS, and I got a lot more hits in than with SA (I loved SA in 3G, but I haven't really loved it since.) But it's funny, I was one of the few people that loved HH in the game when nobody played it, and now it'll be the OP popular weapon

Granted, most of what you wrote is pure gibberish if you haven't been reading up on Rise The bugs and beetles and whatnot....my MH knowledge is still based on 3G. And I sucked at it. And all I remember is I still loathe Lagi underwater battles.

I buy every MH, play up to about the point I get the first Diablos or elemental Rath, realize I suck, and just stop playing after grinding a few armor/wep sets. But I still buy the next one Technically I hate boss battles (in all games), hate damage sponge enemies, and most of all hate "perfect doge" and "memorize their move telegraph" things - I've never been able to see move patterns and telegraphs and react to them, even back in the day on the NES, outside platformers. So it's the wrong gameplay type for me (and why I hate Soulsborne), but somehow MH still has a charm and appeal that keeps me coming back even if I barely see half the content.

Wirebug moves can be split into 2 categories. Those with weapon sheathed which are just for traversal, and those with weapon drawn which are for combat.

Traversal
All you have to do is hold ZL (that's your wirebug activation button in the game) and press either X or A or ZR. Using X gives you a dash 45 degrees upward, in the direction your character is facing. Using A gives you a straight dash across the ground, in the direction your character is facing. Using ZR gives you a dash toward wherever your cursor is pointing. Which, I recommend activating Gyro for. (Gyro ON, Right Analog Up/Down ON, Normal Gyro (Camera control) OFF. This results in Gyro only activating when holding ZL.

The thing is, IF you're already in the air, then the 45 degree upward move from ZL+X lowers 45 degrees to be straight across, and the straight across move of ZL+A lowers 45 degrees to be 45 degrees downward. Something to keep in mind.

After wirebugging into the air, you get one free jump with B. You can also press A to hang still from a wirebug (this does not cost a wirebug). Best to X+A 45 degrees upwards, jump with B at height of wiredash, then X+A a second time to wiredash across the air, then jump with B again. Dash, jump, dash, jump.

Combat
When weapon is drawn, the ZL+X and ZL+A don't do traversal moves anymore, they do special combat attacks, guard counters or repositioning dashes with a buff, etc. You'll just have to practice using them with your weapon drawn to see what they do.

Wirefall Recovery
The last, and arguably most important wirebug maneuver to know about, is the wirefall. When hit by a monster and you go flying, if you have a wirebug charged, you can press ZL+B to instantly use a wirebug to recover back onto your feet. Think of B as being your dodge roll button, so it makes sense that it's used with your wirebug activator ZL to wirefall "dodge" back onto your feet. You'll have to practice and make an intentional effort to use it when hit, because you only have a split second. But play a quest just practicing wirefall technique when hit to drill it into your muscle memory. This is a gamechanger.

Endemic Life
As the game mentions in the tutorial, there are endemic life you can use for buffs. Some endemic life can be used as items. One of them is a little beetle rolling a dung ball across the ground. Except, unlike World where it was a dung ball, it's an elemental dung ball. Fire, water, thunder, whatever, and is colored accordingly.

Just grab whatever you see and make a habit of panning through your item list to see the things you've collected in the quest that can be used as items. You are allowed to hold up to 5 endemic life creatures that can be used as items. Stinkminks (which draw the monsters attention to you), antidobras (negate blights and prevent blights temporarily), elemental beetles, etc.

Climbing walls
Wiredash into a wall and hold run button to run until your stamina depletes. When it does, your hunter will jump off the wall. When they do this, immediately press A to hang mid air from a wirebug and let your stamina recover. Once your momentum while hanging wears off, you fall, but usually there's enough time to let stamina recover. Then, jump with B toward the wall and use X+A to wiredash back into the wall and hold Run to run even further up the wall. While running, your wirebugs recharge. While hanging, your stamina recharges. Rinse and repeat to climb tall structures.

Unnecessary to give an answer like that. And just so you know, you are automatically playing as a support hybrid when joining a group 👍 @JustMe

Just wanna add this so you can see that the different weapons offers different ways to play and advantages that gives you a certain role.

@JaxonH Wow, I'm note even an actual noob to MH and this game feels very noob unfriendly There was a lot of stuff to figure out before, and adding the wirebug just adds so much complexity. I suck at the series, but I'm experienced at sucking at the series!

@NEStalgia
It's really not though, it just seems like it when trying to explain verbally through text.

Virtually everything new to this game for wirebugs was just explained in a few paragraphs. It's just a complex game overall. You know that.

But wirebugs couldn't be easier. It's literally just wirebug up, across or at target cursor for traversal (typically I just stick with ZL+X, or occasionally ZL+ZR to wirebug with the target cursor using gyro if I need to aim at a specific spot), or one of two wirebug attacks with weapon drawn. And of course, the almighty wirefall recovery when hit. And... that's it. That's the entirely of wirebugs. Use for traversal with mid air jump in between uses, or use to attack in combat. And use to recover when hit.

It just sounds like more than it is when written in text. A video demonstration could make everything I just said clear in like 20 seconds.

Yay Chammy!!!!

Also, "Several new monsters"? I don't know if World did this, they only did single monsters. But that's nice. But yeah, Chammy, yay!!!

Also the Rampage is literally just Tower Defense mode but in Monster Hunter, I'm gonna love this one. Especially if the end game quests will be something like what I was hoping before, Endless Mode or something. xp

New Horizons sort of made me feel uneasy about games as a service games. I know that Monster Hunter World did it really well, but I'm scared that this entry could sort of screw it up or something. I hope I'm wrong on that though.

Doubt it, seems like it's doing exactly what World was doing, free title updates for about a year, after that is when the expansion hits, and then that expansion gets free title updates for about a year.

I didn't follow everything that World was doing, but apparently Rise is getting more monsters with the updates? World's first update was just Jho, right? We're getting Chammy along with a few more monsters. I'm gonna guess the extra monsters are either new or returning normal monsters (as in not Elders, Flagships, bosses), something I wished world did. Who knows, maybe we'll see Duramboros, Gobul, or Gigginox in the update or something. lol

Monster Hunter has always been great about providing consistent free content updates ever since I can remember, and I'm talking WAY back in the early 3DS days (I don't remember if MHFU on PSP got updates, it's been too long), so I have no doubts it'll continue to be great moving forward.

@VoidofLight
You never have to worry with Monster Hunter.

It’s a complete package from day one providing 10x more single player content than most average AAA games- same for multiplayer.

All the post release updates are free, which is something they’ve done since the early days. Even back in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on Wii U, they had scheduled updates with new quests and item packs and all of it was free, for months and months after release. Same for MH4U, and again for MHGen, and MHGU. The only difference now is, like with MH World, they’re making the content more substantial by adding actual monsters.

But unlike World, they are not waiting nearly as long before adding new content, and they’re adding way more at once. World released January 2018, and didn’t see its first update until like, April I think, and it was only one monster (Deviljho iirc). Whereas with Rise, we get our first update within 30 days, and it’s multiple monsters. Sounds like they’ve learned how to keep the hype rolling a little better. Because when you wait several months and then only add one monster, a lot of people have quit playing by then, and one monster isn’t enough to get them to come back. But several monsters just 30 days later? Ya, that’ll do it. Plus people will still be playing 30 days later anyways.

@JaxonH That's good to hear honestly. New Horizons was probably my most disappointing game of 2020, and I just feel wary about Games as a Service now due to that one game. However, I know that World was good with it's updates and having loads of content at launch, so I don't have much to worry about.

Ugh, New Horizons...I played it for like...I dunno a month or less and never touched it again. Anyways if there's a Nintendo game to compare this to when it comes to future support (even if I don't care too much for this series), Splatoon. Since they did content updates for those games as well with new maps and weapons. (modes too I think...?)

The more I see of MHR the more it feels like a platform-defining experience. My anticipation for the game has risen to a fever pitch. That 7-10 day snail mail delivery time from Amazon is going to test my patience, lol. I look forward to forming a band of four and wrecking shop.

I haven't seen the stream yet, but the rampage mode kind of seems a bit chaotic. It's hard to manage one monster for me, let alone a whole horde.

Joeynator3000

It's basically a Tower Defense mode, so if you'd played one of those games, think of that, but in Monster Hunter. lol

I've somewhat played a tower defense game before, but I assume this is going to be a bit different due to the monsters being tanky as heck.

Apparently you can't defeat monsters in this mode, just repel them. So they won't have as much health as one from a normal quest.
