Start with Dual Blades or Long Sword. Long sword combo is X X A X X+A
Turn off auto sheath
Turn on gyro, disable for camera though
LOCK ONTO THE MONSTER WITH R3, and then tap L to swing the camera at the monster as needed
Stamina drains over time- all that red is lost max stamina. Eat a ration or well done steak to refill (try to do when not in combat lol)! Also, sharpen your weapon with the whetstone every time the monster runs off or when sharpness decreases from green to yellow.
KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR HEALTH! Half health is not good enough. One water spout attack from Mizutsune Will one-shot you if you’re not at full health. Stay topped up any time you’re a quarter below full.
Don’t ignore your items. Take from supply inside camp tent and the blue item supply box outside of the tent. You have shock traps, pitfall traps, etc... Use them! If Mizutsune affects you with bubble blight, use the cleanser to get rid of it.
Learn to sheath your weapon in between attack bursts. Leaving your weapon drawn kills your mobility. Attack, attack, dodge roll away, sheath, reposition —> rinse and repeat
My excitement from when I saw the gyro options quickly turned to disappointment when I tested it out as it's horribly implemented. Not even usable in handheld mode.
@BenAV
Huh? The gyro is perfect. Idk what you’re referring to.
Gyro is amazing in handheld mode. If you’re using a Switch Lite, you might be experiencing the gyro glitch all Switch Lites have. Reboot your system and restart game to fix.

I think I know what you might be referring to. Try tilting the system like a steering wheel for left and right movement. It’s a roll vs yaw thing. Set up for a pro controller it makes more sense to emulate “pointing”. Most handheld games switch for handheld, this one doesn’t. But if you’re familiar with how it works, it just takes some getting used to. Doom 1/2 let you switch, but I usually stick with how MH Rise does it because of habit. Pikmin 3 was the same way. Once I figured it out it made perfect sense.
So ya, if you don’t know to tilt, it’s gonna feel broken. If it feels weird for you though, you can always turn the gyro off in the X axis in handheld mode only (turn sensitivity to 0), and just do it Splatoon 2 style for up and down movement.
@JaxonH I'm using a regular Switch, not a Lite. Vertical aiming is fine but they used the crappy tilt method for horizontal aiming rather than normal gyro aiming which I find borderline unusable. Guess I'll have to leave it off.
@BenAV
Ya, I figured out that’s what you were talking about after posting. If it feels weird, maybe try turning the sensitivity in the X axis for handheld mode down to zero so that Gyro is only really used for up and down when in handheld mode.
@Ralizah
I had the same thing happen to me. I think it has to do with the surface you’re climbing, but I can’t be sure yet. In the mounting tutorial I was able to wall run up the pillars. But in the other tutorial I would climb up the pillar. It was less smooth.

@JaxonH Only using it for up and down seems pointless so I'll just leave it off. It's a shame because I love gyro aiming when it feels good, refuse to play shooters without it.
@BenAV
Ya I hear ya. I do prefer changing roll and yaw gyro for handheld mode, but a few games don’t do it so I kind of adjusted. Maybe they’ll change it before release.
I also noticed rumble is absent. Strangely. It’ll be a real shame if the full game omits rumble, especially when it adds so much to the experience. Obviously it’s a minor quibble overall (Lite doesn’t even have rumble, for example) but I do think these small quirks could potentially hold it back from being a perfect game.

@JaxonH I've tried a few other games that use this type of gyro but I've never been able to get used to them no matter how much I try. Goes against my 1000+ hours of Splatoon muscle memory.
Didn't notice the lack of rumble, probably because I'm so used to the previous handheld games which didn't have it but that is a shame. I wonder why they couldn't be bothered implementing any.
@Ralizah
Not that I'm aware of. Did you encounter a situation where it was needed? Just out of curiosity. I haven't tried gunner but I imagine moving the camera with the right analog makes it more akin to aiming in Doom Eternal, where reset isnt really needed because you never go long enough without moving analog for it to drift, but I could be wrong.

For wall running, be sure you hold the run button after wirebugging onto it (I use ZL + X for 45 degree wirebug dash and then hold R to run- it’s been working running up cliff sides)
