@JaxonH ok. Time to play a good game for free

Is there a fast way of carrying a Wyvern Egg to base camp?

I tried running and wiredashing yet it was still very slow.

Trying to fight Mizutsune with a hammer is like trying to hit a fly with a sledgehammer.

@JaxonH Thanks. I'll try that out.

re: gyro, I just felt like my aim was gradually getting a little off-center. The quick recentering in Mario Galaxy and Splatoon makes me feel like I have more control when my hands are in an odd position.

Welp. Unpopular opinion here.

The Hunting Horn. I don't like it... It does not feel like the Hunting Horn at all. It would've been better to just introduce a new weapon with whatever that move set is and keep the Hunting Horn the way it was (with some improvements of course).

No, it’s meant to be slow. You can Dash while carrying it to speed up a little bit. Usually I drink a dash juice before carry quests so my stamina doesn’t deplete. Obviously you don’t have any Dash juices in the demo though and it’s not a quest to carry it back.

@Bronze
Not sure I agree, it was definitely overhauled and certainly feels different but, I think it still feels like the hunting horn. Just a different revised version of it. Given it was the least popular weapon used in World, and Ichinose (the director) mains Hunting Horn, it seems he wanted to revamp the weapon so more people would use it.

I mained horn in MH3U alongside Dual Blades and Long Sword. And... I like the changes. Truth is I was never going to main the horn in this game, but after this revamp I’m seriously considering it, so I guess they accomplished what they set out to do. Usually it’s people who are attached to something who are the hardest to convince change is good though. And that’s true for everything.

Another tip:

If ever running up a wall and you jump off (either by accident or from depleting stamina), hit A to hang from a wirebug, which does not cost a wirebug to use. Let your stamina and wirebugs recharge, then do a wirebug dash back onto the wall, holding R to run up it again.

You can essentially climb any structure in this game, no matter how high, using this method.

@JaxonH Sweet! Thanks. The running tip worked, and that essentially seals it for me. It's insanely fun climbing up terrain once you know what you're doing.

Also, I think I'm sold on the Lance. That shield is insanely powerful, which makes monsters like Mizutsune a lot less annoying. Although I can't quite figure out what the wirebug special with that weapon does. You do one thrust, and then an animation plays like you're increasing a stat of some sort. Any idea?

Anyone else notice how good the framerate is on this? Almost locked 30fps. World drops frames all over the place on PS4. So did 4U on 3DS.

@JustMe Interesting. I'm going to have to watch a Lance tutorial once one goes live for this game.

I also main the hunting horn and found myself pretty lost using it here. It'll take some time to get used to it.

Ya it seems to be attack

Framerate is phenomenal, but I did watch an analysis during 4p co op where it was 25-28 alot of the hunt, but there was visible lag so I'm not sure if it was just the connection. Either way I'm pretty sure they're collecting data on this to iron out before launch.

I've seen other gameplay for 4p that looked perfect. Wasnt an analysis but there was no visible lag or dips, which is why I think ContraNetwork was just playing with someone who had a bad connection.

The only similarities are the basic attacks and the fact that they can buff. The replacement of encore makes the weapon feel so different now. I actually had to take the time to adjust to it. The auto activation of the songs is okay, but I was hoping to see more reasons and improvements to actually play the songs, not for that function to be almost utterly replaced. This hurts especially because this is right after World, the game that introduced to some really cool ideas about how songs are play and their effects, such as the poke being able to play any note and the shockwave that dealt damage, encouraging hunters to be more offensive with their recitals. After small changes like that which gradually increased the smoothness and beginner friendliness of the weapon, they just.... scrap them altogether? Okay, I guess. :/

At this point, this Hunting Horn and its previous incarnations are as about as similar as SnS and DB. It's not at all bad, but it definitely different, different enough to warrant a new weapon type entirely, but I do appreciate the effort that was put into it, though.

@Eel Yes. It's not bad, but it is totally not the HH we know and love.

I DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULD DO HALF THIS STUFF

Definitely going to need to go back and experiment more in the demo.

I'm wondering if anyone is making videos on movesets for the monsters, because they apparently have combos. Like when I got a hold of Rathian, I thought she just had a fireball and a charging bite attack or something. I don't know what I did but eventually managed to do her tail flip and now I was flying around. lol

Rathian felt very much the same as always to me.

In one hunt we got both rathian and mr bubbles hitting each other though so that was cool.

Welp, online play counts towards the tries remaining (I thought only local play counted meanwhile online was infinite until February 1). Played 3 times solo (2 Beginner, 1 Intermediate) and 3 times online (2 Beginner, 1 Intermediate) and my number of tries left is 24.

Yes, I know that you can delete save data to regain 30 tries but I'd guess most will take running out of tries as the full end of the demo.

I did the tutorials & a few other hunts & that's enough.... I trust the Stories one will also have a demo, as I'm really more interested in that?

How do I lock a target? Would be nice with a clear tutorial for beginners. So many menus and features.

The game looks really nice, though the water reflection is kinda weird.

I feel that this is a game where you need a lot of patience to really learn how to play it.
