Made Valstrax layered armor, and layered rampage Switch axe using Valstrax weapon. It only has blue sharpness (the white Sharpness IV option is only a tiny bit, and it’s maxed out so Handicraft won’t help), but the damage, after factoring in doing 91% of the damage the real Valstrax Switch Axe would do, still comes out 10 higher raw. But, it’s missing the dragon element and doesn’t have the Lv. 2 slot.
I’d rather have the real one, but until I can craft it and get a gem to upgrade, this is a very close alternative. In fact, I need like... at least 3 serpent orbs. Maybe more.
And I love it. Valstrax, All-Mother Narwa and Apex Zinogre, not to mention Apex Diablos, Apex Rathalos and the Advanced quests which are like high rank 1.5 difficulty and have all the hardest monsters in the game as multi-monster quests (Teostra, Kushala, Chameleos, Bazel, Rakna, Goss, even Valstrax), provides some nice end game challenge. Despite being decked out in my end game gear, these monsters are doing massive chunks of damage.

If you upgrade a rampage weapon all the way, you can apply layered armor to the rampage weapon and make it look like any other weapon. Costs a certain amount of materials from the corresponding monster.
Since the rampage weapons are pretty good and fully customizable, it's a great way to mold the weapon into what you want, and then give it whatever appearance you want.
Aside from the layered weapon option, you can instead opt to change the colors on the rampage weapon like you would with an armor set.

I mean, it depends on the weapon. Pretty sure the weapons with highest raw damage in the game aren't rampage weapons. But you also have to take into account sharpness, length of sharpness, element, slots, etc. There's so many factors.
I don't think any rampage weapons are THE best in the game, but they're certainly upper echelon, with the added benefit of customizing to your liking with 4 rampage skill slots (you want less raw damage in exchange for white sharpness? How bout slightly less for long blue sharpness? How bout more raw damage in exchange for green sharpness? You want 30% affinity in exchange for 20 less raw? How bout 20 more raw in exchange for -30% affinity? Element or more raw? etc) and the ability to change armor pigments or even just use layered weapon option.
Since many weapons look really good but don't have the best stats or sharpness, rampage weapons can allow you to still use a top tier weapon while retaining the look of any weapon you want. So in that respect, ya, it's totally something ppl should be utilizing.
Furthermore, many weapons require orbs for their final upgrade. It's much easier to acquire defender 9 tickets to make a rampage weapon final form, then just use regular monster parts for layered weapon to look how you want. That's what I did for Valstrax Switch Axe, since I don't have the orb yet.

@JaxonH Ok great I might need to try it some time, It sounds great for Replacing a weapon you want but just can''t get yet, and it also sounds good for a trash weapon but has a great look.

As if the Charge Blade nerfs weren’t enough of a pain, All Mother Narwa has virtually no openings for a Charge Blade user during her final phase and always targets the player. This fight was poorly designed.
On the other hand, it’s a peace of cake with other people, but multiplayer is always poorly optimized and unchallenging. Not only that, but you miss out on the story and monster hype build up cutscenes when playing with others, which is stupid.
It's a clutch option that's low key going under the radar. One of the primo additions from the 3.0 update.
There's so many Valstrax weapons I want, and every single one of them requires a red serpent orb for the final upgrade. I can't even get one orb much less 6 of them. But I can get a bunch of Defender 9 tickets from the Rampage. A perfect substitute as you work toward the actual weapon (or, as you said, a perfect way to utilize the fashion of lower tier weapons).
@TeeJay
Just unlocked Proof of Power. It's in a new arena area? I've never seen this locale.
Waiting til tomorrow so we can do it together. And the one after that unlocks.

@JaxonH I got spoiled on the new area due to F*** screen rant, not a big deal but still annoying. Still on my little break form the game, probably going to pick it back up tomorrow.

@JaxonH Hey I wanted to ask you, I have said I will be picking back up the DB but the hard part is figuring out which ones to pick, I like the two element ones you told me about, and there are the dark as night (I think thats the name) and the val ones, Which ones do You think I should go for, i'm leaning more on a layerd rampage valstrax weapon.

I don't really main dual blades, only dabble, so I'm not familiar enough to give any definitive recommendations.
Dual Blades chews through sharpness, so you want Handicraft and/or Sharpness skill, and a nice, fat bar of white or blue sharpness.
Valstrax DB have low raw (170) but a fat bar of white, especially with handicraft.
Rampage with Sharpness III rampage skill has better raw and a fat bar of blue.
Ibushi has a fat bar of blue with solid raw.
There's others that can be made usable if you have enough handicraft and Sharpness. Also, as a side note, prioritize Constitution and Stamina Surge for DB. Dashing and demon mode chew through your stamina bar. So a DB build should use handicraft, Sharpness, constitution and stamina surge.

@JaxonH Ok, So I think i'm going to go with Sharpness skill, and if I can grind out the almudron gem (LOL no that monster is crap) Then I will go with handy craft, as for the weapon, I think i'm going with the rampage Val weapon, and if handy craft can raise its sharpness then great, If not The Valstrax weapons sound great as the White sharpness is Amazing, I could also Up the affinity to maker even more busted, as for the Stamina, I never really have a issue with it but a skill could go a long way on how long I could use demon mode so I will look into that, Plus the val Weapons go amazing with its own armor set man this is great, thanks.

Yesterday my bro helped me get a Valstrax orb, then TeeJay helped me get my 2nd.
So I've got the Charge Blade and Switch Axe fully upgraded. Skipped his armor and instead opted for layered, since my mixed set has all the skills I want.
Also made Narga and Ibushi armor and fully upgraded. Those sets have crazy skills! Not all are applicable, but even so, both are solid sets for Charge Blade, Switch axe, gunlance, dual blades or insect glaive.
And both have great luck, as long as you don't mix and match between the two. Thunder Alignment 5 and Wind Alignment 5 provide Great Luck.

For GS the Valstrax armor is amazing, especially if you use Rage Slash. I wish the Narwa/Ibushi armor was a little better and don't see much use for it other than the novelty of building a mixed set with it and trying to make it work. You can make much stronger sets with the skills you want with others sets.
I don’t think the Narwa/Ibushi sets are meta. Of course you can always build a custom set better fit to your liking. But they’re still really good sets. And have better defense than my mixed set. At least my Narwa set does. 481 vs my current 425.
My Ibushi set has the following:
Wind Alignment 5 (Dragon Res +4 and Great Luck)
Stormsoul 5 (Thunder/Dragon Attack +15)
Focus 3
Power Prolonger 3
Constitution 3
Stamina Surge 3
Guard 3
Guard Up 3
Quick Sheath 3
Slugger 3
Evade Window 3
Evade Extender 3
Flinch Free 3
Rapid Morph 3
Stun Resistance 2
Versus my normal mixed set which has the following:
I still prefer my mixed set because it focuses on the specific skills I like. Even so, those Ibushi and Narwa sets are probably the best default skills for a full armor set in the game. If you’re somebody who doesn’t like to muck around with mixed sets, they’re a solid choice.
