I'm taking my time with this game, or aiming to do so honestly, since I don't want to rush through it in about a month then stop playing, with Updates not really pulling me back into it.

However, that being said, this game's pretty fun. I've been doing some of the tutorial quests, and I even went out to explore the first map. It honestly feels like this game takes the best aspects of Monster Hunter World, and combines it with traditional Monster Hunter. It has the feel of the games from before World, while keeping some of the game's developments and additions.

Exactly. World revolutionized the series, but Rise has taken it even further.

It's a more gradual difficulty curve, which will help on board new players, and the wirebug and palamutes make questing go so much faster. Especially now that you're not spending 10-15 minutes tracking monsters like in World.

Not that I disliked tracking monsters. I actually love it. But different games for different systems with different aims and goals. Rise is meant for pick up and play portable MH sessions. Ichinose specifically stated that was their goal. And I love both approaches. They're both fantastic and each works for the type of system they're on.

But it does make quests go quicker. Which, coupled with palamutes and wirebugs which make traversing way quicker, it results in a MH game where quests can just fly by. Which is perfect for handheld play. But I wouldn't be surprised if this is the MH with the least amount of hours before finishing the game (not that that matters because, MH is a game you keep playing). It'll be shorter as a result, but more densely packed with fun, without any filler.

Once we get the two title updates though, and we have Chameleos, Teostra, Kushala Daora, Bazelgeuse, Valstrax, and like 4 additional Apex Monsters with an additional end story quest, it'll be plenty to keep me occupied for the foreseeable future. Once the Ultimate Edition releases though? Oh man. It's on.

@JaxonH Really though, this game just gives me the feelings of how the previous entries were. Also, yeah by the time we get the next two title updates, the game will probably have a lot of hunts to go through.

I'll probably take a break for a while once I finish the village quests and hit the credits. Maybe grind for materials here or there, but, otherwise, I want to give Capcom a bit of time to update the game before I get deeper into it.

Right.

I also love the rampage. I've only done one rampage quest so far, but I was expecting it to not be fun after hearing some complaints, particularly from my brother. But it was crazy fun! His main complaint was constantly getting knocked off the Hunting installations when playing solo, but I learned you just have to guard with R. Just like in a real hunt. If you don't dodge or guard, you're gonna get hit and go flying.

The game really does make me feel like how I did in my first game- MH3U. That giddiness and sheer joy of running around the maps gathering and hunting monsters just for fun, crafting every single low rank armor set knowing they'll eventually be outclassed, because they just look so dang good! After all, what's the rush? Stop and smell the roses. Take your time. Enjoy the journey. Stop myopically focusing in on the destination to the exclusion of all else.

I put 40 hrs in the demo and that was all without even touching Magnamalo, aside from twice. The game is that fun. I don't even need a quest or a reason. Just doing expeditions, running around gathering and hunting whatever I come across could keep me entertained for the next year.

But I am excited for the elder dragons, Apex Monsters to give Rampage mode more variety and the DLC boss. For sure.

I really enjoy how they handle exploration quests in this game. You set it up like a real quest, and head out into the map, being able to finish sidequests while roaming around without a timer, and maybe even grind a bit as well depending on the monsters out at the time. I can't remember if you can eat in your tent like you could with world though.

@VoidofLight I never got the "You can eat again" message while doing the Tours, so I'm guessing there's no reason to eat again...? shrugs

You can eat in your tent. But it's more in case you forget to eat. I think most food buffs last all hunt, but if you cart, I suspect you may need to eat again. Then again, maybe not. As I've heard health buffs persist after carting.

@JaxonH Ah alright. I also noticed the food system in this game is different. Seems more customizable.

It's definitely easier to put together the skills you want without having to worry about health and stamina ramifications.

I like it. It's quick and to the point. Pick the skills you want. Level up the health and stamina boost as you play. Spend way less time trying to decipher cuisine menus

Yeah I never engaged with the custom menus in previous games. Was just too confusing. This food system is so much easier to grasp.

I've gotten pretty good without the gyro turned on but I might give it a try now that you've mentioned it. And I'll admit the melee combat does look fun, just wanted to start with something I'm more comfortable with and go from there. Definitely plan on mixing things up as I go along. This doesn't seem like one of those games that you play for 20 hours (probably getting close to, or at that number, now and still have a long way to go) and then it's done, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of opportunities to try out other weapons.

....Oh yeah, what's with the Wyvern Riding sometimes? Like, I'll get the monster out of the area away from another monster, with plenty of time still left on the clock. But when I start trying to ram them into a wall, I get thrown off without warning or reason....it's really annoying. -.-

@Joeynator3000 I think they can only be rammed into the wall twice until they force you off.

Joeynator3000

@VoidofLight it's supposed to depend on how many wirebugs you have, but it sometimes won't even let me do it a second time. With two wirebugs you're able to do it 3 times before you're thrown off.

I've never had issues with Wyvern Riding. All I can say is maybe in the moment you didn't press B to get back on the monster after ramming?

It happens way after ramming the first time, it's when I'm moving towards a wall for a second hit, I just randomly fly off as if I ran out of time out of nowhere. It's weird. -.-

Next time I guess I'll capture a clip, is there like...2 timers or something? I dunno...

@Gamer83
MH3U- 600 hrs
MH4U- 400 hrs
MH Gen- 400 hrs
MHGU- 400 hrs
MHW/MHWI- 400 hrs

These games can last a long time and it never gets old. That said, I only initially got 200 hrs from MH World when the base game released. It wasn't until the Iceborn expansion I got more playtime. I imagine Rise will be the same way, maybe even less that, because hunts are so streamlined and movement is so fast with palamutes and wirebugs. But it's so much more enjoyable because of that.

With the added content updates it should reach 200 hrs, I imagine. And another 200 with the inevitable Ultimate edition in 12-18 months.

@Joeynator3000 Honestly minutes after I made my last post I was riding a Rathalos and it happened to me. Rammed a wall, recovered and got thrown off while going towards another wall. Very weird.
