theres a rumour already going around that prime 5 is being developed at the same time as 4, and four is where they are experimenting with mouse controls so five can be perfect. it might be true, since 2 & 3 were developed at the same time, and prime 4 doesnt seem big enough to take eight years π i hope its true tho, the more metroid the more happiness! soo excited to be playing four with stunning visuals.

While watching some Prime 2 footage recently I noticed that skeleton Dark Samus (or whatever you would call it) also has 3 eyes, so there might be a connection there.
I wonder what will be more successful the Switch 2 or Switch 1 version of this game. Switch 2 is the newer format but a tiny userbase compared to the original Switch. I guess it will depend on how well it runs on original Switch and how much better the Switch 2 version is. There may also be a price factor in that Switch 2 owners are more likely to pay high prices where as Switch 1 owners are accepting their console is end of life and may not want to put that investment in. If you are a Switch 2 owner too who wants to play both versions to see how they compare I guess you have to buy the Switch 1 version and the upgrade separately.
@BonzoBanana I wonder if Nintendo will report on the Switch 1 versus 2 sales or if they will simply say 'Metroid 4 sales' and not differentiate. I'm guessing they won't tell us. It's also a slightly arbitrary distinction since there will likely be plenty of people who buy the Switch 1 version because they have no choice, buy a Switch 2 in a year or 2, and then buy the $10 Metroid S2 upgrade because why not.
It's $10 in the US. Not sure how that translates to your region, but the upgrade pack is already available for pre-order on the Nintendo website so you can look.
How do those upgrade packs that are on card work btw? Do they install onto the harddrive?
In other words, if I buy the S2 card will I save 1.5gb of storage space compared to getting tue S1 version and the upgrade pack digitally?
@Jedrus_Lilac if you buy the switch 2 Edition physically you can put it in either system and it'll just load off the card. No install necessary (until they patch the game or add dlc)
What the heck are Tanabe and Retro on with this game? First bland open world sections and now annoying NPC escorts, does anyone involved in this project understand the appeal of Metroid? Because it seems like they don't, it's like they're intent on making this game as un-Metroidy as possible. 18 years without a new entry and an entire development restart for this game and THIS is what they come up with? Nintendo feels clueless on what to do with the Prime games. 2D's figured it out thanks to MercurySteam, but Prime? Yeah I can't say I'm optimistic for this series' fortunes if THIS is where they want to take it.
Miles is said to go away after some time but he sets up a communications device so can probably chime in whenever he wants to give a hint.
There is also the option the other npcs will accompany you whenever you enter a new zone.
@Bolt_Strike "does anyone involved in this project understand the appeal of Metroid?"
Most of what we've seen still looks like regular Metroid and isn't the point v that they want to widen the appeal so it sells very well and becomes less of a niche franchise? As a more casual Metroid fan these changes make me want the game way more.
Very looking forward to finding out about all the NPCs lives and seeing what tools they have to help me further explore the environment and the bike looks cool as hell IMO.
And it's not "open world" You just use the bike to drive between areas. Also you can mute the NPCS if you don't want to hear them.
Not every game needs to be Super Metroid or Metroid Prime 1. The whole reason Nintendo's franchises last as long as they do is because they're not afraid to evolve, change and adapt. Otherwise their franchises would just age out with their audience instead of attracting new players.
Never understood why only the first prime got the remastered treatment. Should've been a remastered trilogy. These games should have all been on switch by now.
Someone elsewhere pointed out that Retro hired people from 343 (Halo developers) and that the "at least I'm not sitting in a cubicle next to Phil" could be a meta reference to Phil Spencer and now my mind is blown.
Expectations are tempered big time here, and I don't have a great deal of confidence in the end product at all. Yappy NPCs full of Marvel-snark.... definitely not needed in a Metroid title.
Also a bit underwhelmed in that the game will ultimately be held back from reaching its technical potential/scale/magnitude - just by virtue of it being backwards compatible with S1.
I genuinely hope it reviews and lands well, but the whole development cycle/time and very conscious efforts to yield 'mass appeal' leave me a little cold here.
I'm all for pulling in a broader audience, but not at the expense of compromising the ideals that make Metroid.... well, Metroid.
From did a fine job with Elden Ring I think in that regard, making it as casual-appealing as possible whilst staying true to the core fanbase
The apparent prevalence of Mr. Marvel MacKenzie (especially with the comms) definitely makes me a bit uneasy, but I remain cautiously optimistic that he'll interject less as the story goes on.
"well it appears I am upside down. what ever will I do?"
