@Ralizah
It will help satiate the longing. This game has rekindled a spark in me I haven't had since the Metroid Prime games 15 years ago.
You won't believe this but... Samus spoke! They have a voice actress for the game. I just encountered it now. It's an epic scene, you're gonna love it. I died right after in a historic showdown and have to go to bed now, but I'm so excited and just want to keep playing! Argh!

That's it. I'm holding off playing any more until Thursday when the OLED gets here. I'll play Tetris Effect in the meantime or something. Its nice on the OLED TV with 5.1 surround and all, but after testing handheld... I gotta do it.

Yeah agree with all that. Metroid has never been a big deal in the U.K., or at least as much as elsewhere, because the NES wasn’t huge here. That’s a really good start for Dread allowing it for the certainty of it being behind a Pokemon game. It’s enough for me to put my finger in the air and say that early polling now suggests a good shot at the magic 3 million mark at least.
Just beat the game, and enjoyed the game enough to consider going for 100%. Personally, trying to not overrate the game since it's fresh, I would probably say Hunters, Federation Force, Super and then Dread. Frustration is the biggest negative I can come up with for Metroid Dread, which will diminish as I likely replay the game. The narrative had me hooked in since seeing the game's second major boss, and the gameplay is solid throughout.

@JaxonH Do we know who voiced her? I totally spaced looking during the credits because I was so relieved. Was that Jennifer Hale back again? The uh... nature of Samus' lines in this game makes identifying a VA difficult.
I do hope the next 2D title has more for her to say though. I miss Fusions elevator monologues. I know Prime was supposed to have a fully voiced monologue by Hale that got cut... and it sounded really good, albeit unfinished.
@JaxonH
Just got to that scene myself. It's awesome. Had a feeling there would be more to the cinematics, just a matter of when it got there. This game is taking me back to my college days of Fusion. I know opinions were somewhat split on that but I loved it after 8 years of waiting to continue the saga from Super Metroid (first Metroid game that really clicked with me).
I play Switch mostly like a home console so I'm not sure I'll get the OLED (also still think we're closer to a Switch 'Pro' or the real successor than it seems, 2023) but the game looks great in portable mode even on my standard Switch. Probably looks outstanding on the OLED screen. Hope Gamestop or Best Buy will start putting them in the demo stations so I can see it for myself.
EDIT: Meh, looked up a guide... -.-
Even I'm starting to hate these things, it was cool the first couple of times but now they're just making me not want to play this game anymore. Now this next one knows where you're at regardless, the cloak does nothing because it just bumps right into you anyways...and the water slows you down and it still just bumps into you.
@Joeynator3000 imo it is better to just run for it and cloak only when you're close to any exit (to then run for it again). It is a bit trial and error mixed with luck as the location of emmi is rng)
@dionysos283 as fair as I understood it is just hard mode and rewards for completing the game with 100% completion or within certain time frames (as usual). If there is something more I missed it
@DomGC I don't know, the water slows you down with purple. -.-
...and by the time I get to the part where I can jump out it grabs me, and of course it's always there where I can't counter it. (yet towards the beginning it's super easy to counter it for some reason...-.-)

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Okay, I got Metroid Dread and I just tried it for about 20 minutes, but I'm getting frustrated by how much the game is interrupting itself.
1) How do I skip cut scenes? I read that it is + and -, but nothing happens when I do that. Do I need to clear the game before I am able to skip cut scenes, like in SOTN?
2) How do I get rid of the constant pop ups at the bottom of the screen telling me the controls? I just want to blunder around and discover.
I really despise the boss battles. I just don't know who finds them enjoyable. I spent 40-minutes trying to beat Kraid before I gave up and put the controller down. I'll try again later, but I really get the sense that the developers are trying to defeat the player in that moment instead of creating an entertaining experience. It would feel so much more fair if that boss wasn't so stingy with the purple health thingies. I know I'll beat it eventually, but it's SO frustrating.

Pressing + followed by - should skip the cut scenes. It's a sequence, you don't press them simultaneously. Perhaps that's why it's not working?
The help text will go away eventually. It's just in the beginning part of the game.
After this crazy hectic and adventurous weekend..
Had a friends day chillage yesterday trying to keep things relaxed.
Me and my family went out to see a dance show and we even got featured on their social media! In-between I actually had enough time to finish Metroid Dread. I love Metroid and thoroughly enjoyed Dread. I do want to talk about it but ill keep it in spoiler tags:
Fighting Raven Beak is such an incredible moment and a great boss fight to boot. I do wish we had lightning armor from Samus Returns cause it would look AMAZING and super cool in HD especially since Raven Beak dawns some sort of lightning armor looking thing. It was pretty intense with Samus transforming into her Metroid Armor, but I don't know if it's just me, but I don't quite like the armor design much. I also thought that we'd have a real X-Raven Beak fight, but instead it was a weird press and hold the button to watch the cinematic. This is an intense moment but I can't help but feel soured a bit by wanting that last epic fight with X-Raven Beak. I also dont quite like the beam with the armor, it looks kinda cheap and tacked on.
Going back a bit, I feel like the EMMI system while in certain respects very impressive, I feel could have been done a touch better with key design choices but I do have the benefit of hindsight.
I know this sounds like me picking at the game but, with such a phenomenal experience of a game, I feel like the praises for it are already spread and hopefully spread wide. I just want to specify some of the criticisms that I felt through my experience.
@Octane Nice, I figure you're pretty far past that now since it's been a couple days XD.
@FX102A We totally land on the same page. Getting caught by the EMMI is supposed to feel helpless, but it feels too unfair where it can sometimes feel frustrating. Eh, I hope that Dread sells really well and spawns further Metroid Switch games.
