@SKTTR and @Ralizah Thanks a lot.
I did end up using a glitch, and got afraid if they would ban my other accounts or brick my Switch or something. Thou that user is not connected to an Nintendo account yet.

Just started it this morning! Made it to the Sand Kingdom and have collected a few moons there (looks like it's finally opening up a bit). Controlling the T-Rex was fun, and although I haven't yet had the chance to try TV play, it looks gorgeous on the Switch's screen.

BTW, how necessary are the motion control tricks? I don't think playing split Joy-Con is as comfortable as playing with the grip, and I can't seem to be able to pull off the move where you spin the hat around you anyways...

@tobibra: They would never block your account.
They can however block you (for certain periods of time) from participating in online sections where you've caused trouble.

In Super Mario Odyssey the online leaderboards are pretty safe though, as some of the highest scores and best times on the online games are only possible with the heavy use of "Mario tricks".

For most games (incl. Super Mario Odyssey) everything you're able to pull off is allowed even online, as long as you don't use external cheats or mods, but specific games like ARMS and Splatoon 2 have online rules and you have to play by those rules or get penalties.

Devs are unlikely to care much about cheating or glitch abuse if it doesn't impact other players. In some cases (like OoT 3D and I think Pikmin 3 patches) Nintendo have supposedly even left glitches in on purpose. In other cases they might patch stuff out, but they certainly won't ban you for using it. Best not to abuse the jump rope leaderboard though.

@RR529 They're not all that important. The spin throw is needed on rare occasions but you can also do it by rotating the stick to make Mario spin before you throw.

What does everyone think if I started a Super Mario Odyssey Challenge thread? It'd basically be a few rounds of challenges, where the first to submit photo or video evidence gets points. Arbitrary points of course.

I'd either do it Tuesday night, or even tonight if I get the kinks worked out fast enough. Or maybe just at a different time if not many people do it.

@Nicolai I've been thinking about something like this for a while so I'm interested! However, I don't have an easy way to retrieve photos so I don't know if I'd ever be first...perhaps if there was a way to make them un-timed (other than the time range), but if not I could at least participate.

I would have never guessed Weezing was so useful until I played a HeartGold Nuzlocke!

@MasterWario Oh, that's true, I didn't think that not everyone is hooked up via a Twitter account.

Finished up the main story last night!

Fantastic game. In addition to feeling new & fresh, it also oozes with fanservice calling back through the series' long history. I've poked around the post game some, and currently have about 370 moons.

Now that I am a couple of hours in: Its lovely! I shouldn't have doubted it.
It starts out pretty lineair, but after that you are free to go wherever you like. The artstyle isn't always great though. Wooded kingdom for example looks butt-ugly (its still a fun level though). The game is lots of fun though and so far I am really impressed.

Apparently the new update only ads Korean language...but the file size goes from 101 to 107 mb (I have the card). There goes my precious memory-space, for a language I don't need. So if Nintendo enters Africa we get another update? I think I'll change the settings to manually, because I don't want to lose my memory-space because of nonsense! That way I can choose myself whether I download a update or not!

That's 0.006GB. I'm not sure how many 30-second clips with the video function that equates to, but imagine it's not many. And incidentally, 51,000,000 extra people can now potentially play the game in their native language. Which is... nice, I suppose.

You could disconnect your Switch from the internet I suppose, but to my mind the problem doesn't seem large enough to really bother solving.

@Maxz,

For the Korean market they could have added their language on the card, right? It already annoys me that the gamecards have no battery-backup (and that saves and updates are stored in one file), and now this...

Yeah, it may be small. But the point is: What If someday my internal memory is totally full because of saves and "nonsense" updates? By that time do I have to erase the Mario Odyssey save-file, 800 moons down the drain? Please no! If I could bring everything to a micro-sd or a harddrive...but at the moment the save-files are still locked to the internal memory. I am thinking forward, this could be troublesome in the future.

My little trick doesn't seem to work though. You can archive the files (and lose the updates), and choose the option "updating manually". But as soon as you unwrap the savefiles, you are forced to download those updates. Ok, I could totally disable the internet-connection, but that's not what I want.

@Henmii To my mind, this is the flip-side to Nintendo's more 'global minded' approach with the Switch that has accompanied throwing away the region lock. You can already switch Odyssey to a number of languages at will throughout the adventure, and it'd be strange if Korean wasn't included on all
versions.

The obvious advantages of this standardised approach is that anyone from anywhere can go anywhere and buy Mario/Zelda for their Switch, confident in the knowledge they can play it in their own language. They don't have to order a region specific game card from overseas just to play it. And because of the lack of region lock, they don't have to worry about marching their console region to that of the game.

All in all, it's a trade-off I'm happy with for the barrier free game access we're given this generation.

I do think you've got a point about Dana management though. It'd be good to store these updates on a micro SD. But then if you had multiple SD cards, you'd have to always use the one with the update on it when using the game card. And that'd be a faff. So I don't know, really.

@Maxz,

You may be right to a certain degree, but I find it annoying. They could have fitted out the latest versions of the game with all the languages+Korean. No need for a update. Or at least make the update optional.

"But then if you had multiple SD cards, you'd have to always use the one with the update on it when using the game card"

I agree that would be a bit of a hassle, but its already happening with 3DS. For example: I always use my big sd card with Smash, because there the updates are stored. I rather have that then everything locked to the internal-memory. Oh, and I am against cloud-storage. I want to "own" my save-files and updates.

Alstil

Many apologies if this has been asked before...

I'm having a hard time clarifying how many moons I should purchase from the Mushroom Kingdom. I probably arrived at the kingdom with around 250, and it's the first time I've seen a store allow me to keep buying moons and also in packages of 10.

Will it allow me to keep buying? How it will be applied to the total?

Any info would be great! This is the first time I've felt guilty accumulating these things!

Alstil

Octane

@Alstil The total amount of Moons you can get in the game is 999. You can get most of them by either through playing the game like you normally would, or by buying them in a store, which feels a bit like cheating IMO. You only need to buy one from the Mushroom Kingdom if you want to complete the game.
