So are we just waiting for this release now? We had Triangle Strategy, Kirby, and Advance Wars delayed. So...this is next I think? Come on Nintendo, give us more gameplay/trailers.

Do we normally have to wait this long for an English version of a trailer? I've been really wanting to watch it and analyze it for myself, but it's hard to do when it's narrating in Japanese.

@StarPoint I agree, I thought we'd have something by now. The intro video is a fun bridge at least.

@Saf01 I usually wait to preorder until reviews come in a day or two before. However, in this case, I might preorder it earlier. I'm super excited for this one.

What do you guys think the chances are they do a beta test like they did with mario tennis?

Kind of waiting on any more announcements or preorder freebies before ordering. I’ll likely pick it up anyway though.

This will be the first major release since triangle strategy that I'm really excited for. I've never played a strikers game before, so we'll see what all the fuss is about.

An English trailer finally dropped! Also several other languages on their channel:

So I think the online stuff seems really interesting. The fact that you can join a club and rank up, allowing you to play with players of your skill level sounds really fun and a good motivation to keep playing.

@Saf01 hm.. there is no question more characters are coming.. 5v5? thats the same character every game..

@Saf01 That would be nice. Ideally, I think they could tell us that there are unlockable characters, but wouldn't tell us who those characters are. Just for an element of surprise.

I feel like Nintendo could have been sitting on this game for a bit. Like it’s possible Next Level finished it months ago (or maybe longer) and Nintendo knew they could release it as needed in the calendar. Their releases are super methodical, and they’re slowly rolling out footage/features. It feels a bit different from the Mario Golf Super Rush release, and aligns a bit more with their recent agenda of promoting online play. I hope it gets NSO app connectivity for a voice chat feature with the online clubs.

@sisodinr This'll be my first Mario Strikers game but looking at reviews of the other 2 games in the series, it seems single player has always been very limited for the franchise. Meanwhile with Mario Tennis and Mario Golf there were good single player content in previous entries like the story mode in the GBA games.

@Grumblevolcano This will be my second in the franchise, as I only played the Wii version. That is very true - the single player play has been limited in the franchise, with only like three cups to win in the Wii version (I think), and some other smaller features. I imagine, or at least hope, the single player mode was more robust in the GC version since it would have needed to be at that time. And I don't disagree at all with any of that. It's really interesting to see Nintendo releasing two multiplayer-/online- heavy games back-to-back, with Switch Sports and then this. I also love your comment mentioning "This'll be your first...".
I'm pleased to see Nintendo getting newer folx on board with the franchise!

You can also add me to the "new person jumping on the train" conga. The last game in this franchise came out when I wasn't really touching anything Nintendo related at all, but honestly the more they reveal of this, the more excited I am finding myself.

As I said in another thread, the core Mario platform games are not for me, but almost all of the spin offs are things I always end up really enjoying and assuming they put the same level of energy, care and effort as they do into the other spin offs, I don't see why this won't be a straight banger.

Using Mario Tennis Aces as my nearest equivalent, I will say it can be very challenging and I do think the balance between additional mechanics and the heart of the sport it is representing is kinda off there. You can be the better player overall, but sometimes that doesn't matter at all if you can't do perfect blocks to survive special moves. However, I still love jumping on for an hour and getting sweaty all the same.

I do believe they make direct reference in one of the trailers here that this is very pick up and play friendly - maybe in direct response to how complex and unforgiving Aces can be for a tennis game, which is good news to me, as a lot of the footage is really chaotic and that can either be tonnes of fun, or miserable, depending on how well the controls are designed.

I do sorta share some concerns of others though about the amount of content on offer here. It looks like they are really focusing on the online portion and the jury is still out on how well Nintendo can really do online experiences in the modern age. I also generally do not enjoy playing sports games against randos and would much rather play against either the CPU or my friends. So I dunno if this means like 95% of what is available here, is gonna be the part I don't enjoy.

However, it does look like you have a decent amount of characters, apparently all with their own abilities and the ability to unlock gear to alter your characters, so hopefully this can be explored and unlocked in modes that aren't just straight PVP all the time.

I see a lot of complaints about Tennis Aces lacking content, I dunno what it was like at launch, but I picked it up fairly recently and I think as it stands today, it is pretty much as content complete as I can expect from a modern sports title.

If this is just five v five straight match ups online, local or via the CPU, I can see the novelty and fun of this wearing off very fast, unless you have a dedicated group of friends all playing this together (which I won't have). So I do hope it includes something which'll keep things fresh and varied.

I'm not a sports guy, and I don't usually like sports games, However, I do like me a small amount of soccer games, and this is mario soccer so count me in! (New guy)

We should all create a Nintendolife League (if it works that way) to break us newbies in.

I really hope we get some lengthy reviews before the game comes out. I feel confident I'll get the game, but I just need some independent party verification that it won't let me down.

@Pizzamorg haha that's a great idea. There's likely going to be a lot of newcomers to the series
